Whirlwind on inv/ss

micros

Recommended Posts

So I've been playing around with the classic inv/ss build and honestly it's awesome. Once IO'd you are unkillable. Even exempting down for tf's BUT...

I do find it hard to hold argo without taunt auras. I am relatively new to tanks and I know most PUGs don't wait for herding but I consider myself almost like an emp def back in the day only proactive.  All damage must hit me allowing the rest of the team to provide the damage, control, debuff ECT.

To this end I was playing with dropping the fly pool and using super speed as travel and whirlwind as early as possible. It's and end hog but I can proc it for damage and slot a knockback to knockdown IO and just use it as an agro aura with a bit of soft control...

Any thoughts on this madness? I appreciate any thoughts from the guru tanks on this board.

Invincibility is the taunt aura.  Some Inv tanks report they don't even take Taunt, as a power, because it's so good.  Invincibility also allows you to drop a Gaussian's -chance for build up in it, which fires with virtually every mob.  That plus double Rage makes Foot Stomp a monster.

I cannot fathom Whirlwind on a tank, but if it works for you, go for it.  Here's my (unkillable) go-to Inv/SS - NUTCRCKR, if you wanted to compare builds.

Makes total sense to me here is what I've been playing with though.  The thought is trade off of ST damage to have more AOE taunt/damage.  I haven't looked at fire epic for melt armor which does seem interesting.   I know the overall RES and defense numbers are a bit lower so I'm def going to crib (steal) from your build.  I get that this seems like an off the wall idea but so far it's been pretty fun.  Thanks for the feedback!

Hehe, I cribbed(stole) from others (Hyperstrike, Infinitum, etc.), so trying to pay it forward.

Couple things:  I don't see the Steadfast Protection unique, so you're missing out on 3% Def on all categories.  If you simply swap the Impervium psi unique for it, in Resist Physical Damage, you'd lose 6% psi resist but gain 3% Def in every category.  I would consider moving one of the LBE slots to RPD, which will not only save a bunch of infl., but keep the Impervium unique and add Steadfast.  You lose 5% psi defense, but immediately gain back 3% with Steadfast (and all other categories).

Also, the MoT resist proc isn't one of the five listed...typo?  If not, another huge benefit by adding it.

Before NUT moved from Reunion to Exc, I did some of fire farming with friends.  One of the reasons he's Vet level 280-ish and why his fire resists and defense are capped (well, 44.02% Def - almost capped...but that's with only one enemy in range).  It's actually pretty fun to join a fire-farm PUG in AE and be more survivable than the lead brute, as these are his numbers with the max 10 mobs...and without any stacks of MoT resist 😆

Also, one thing to remember looking to trade ST damage vs AoE.

This will cause you to do less damage to mobs you NEED to kill.

Fighting AVs becomes harder, and you wind up stalemating more.

If you're fighting in groups mostly, this is a non-issue, as you just stand there and meat-shield your little heart out.  Your allies then proceed with The Kickass.

But if you solo, yes, you're wasting output on stuff you're already going to kill anyhow.  And when killing something MATTERS, you just can't get the job done.

If you want to be godlike, pick anything.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!
