EM/Rad... What am I even looking at here?

Recommended Posts

So this weekend I rolled an EM/Rad scrapper, and while I can usually suss out a thumbnail sketch of how a build would skew just by looking at Mids/CoD, I have to admit I can't make heads or tails of Rad Armor.

I have a pretty 'set' slotting for EM on a Scrapper, so I know I've about 28 free slots to throw in the secondary (on top of the free slot each power gets).  Anyone have any suggestions based on the questions below?

Gamma Boost - do you slot that for EndMod or Healing?  It seems like it does most of its work in EndMod, but, can it save the day if I lean green instead?

Radiation Therapy - does it REALLY need Accurate Healing enhancements, or does Beta Decay kind of make up the difference?  Speaking of...

Beta Decay - It has a fairly low Endurance cost, so EndRedx doesn't look critical.  The -ToHit is really too small to invest in enhancing (if I went 6-wide with an Accurate ToHit Debuff, it ends up at a -8 ToHit) but it also doesn't feel like loading up on DefDebuff is the right way to go, either. especially if Ground Zero is doing -Def as well... Any ideas?

Ground Zero - This seems like it would be a good nuke, if slotted that way, but it takes a million other enhancement types... what's a good slotting on that?

Well, I don't have Rad Armour on a Scrapper, but I do have a couple Tanks and a Brute. I'm also not claiming to be the end-all be-all. But I have found this works for me. That out of the way, and looking specifically at the Brute as that at least puts RadA into the secondary, I'd answer your power questions like so:

  • Gamma Boost: 2x Power Transfer (EndMod & Heal Unique). As an aside I slot 2-3 heals instead on my Tanks - honestly don't pay close enough attention to say what is "better".
  • Rad Therapy: doesn't really need accuracy (Mids says base 225%). I built mine as a mini-nuke with 3 procs plus some heal and recharge. I'm sure I'd get told off for enhancing recharge while using procs but hey.
  • Beta Decay: doesn't need much, can easily be a 1-slot wonder if you're tight on slots. Conventional wisdom that I've read is to plug in the Achilles Heel proc and call it done. I had an extra slot so also added the Analyze Weakness proc (because I had one on-hand so why not). Perfect Zinger and/or Cloud Senses procs could prolly be better.
  • Ground Zero: it's another nuke. I go 5 procs plus a Dam/Rech.

Thanks for this!  How do you like the Analyze Weakness proc?  I didn't like the 2.5PPM text, but, it COULD be nice.

I used it for Preventative Med (The +absorb and a Heal piece) for a little extra S/L resist.  Apparently I have a Perf Shifter Proc in there too, but that could definitely be dropped, because ....

Need? No.  But Accurate Healing has some nice pieces in it.  You can use the Heal/Recharge piece from Theft of Essence without measurably impacting the proc rate of the power.  Add the +End piece from the same set and it's a veritable font of infinite endurance.  I also played around with putting the Knockdown piece from a Winter set in there.  Very interesting results, but probably not keeping that setup. There's also a Negative Dmg proc in the Accurate Healing sets that is good in this power as well.

FWIW: "Accurate Healing" doesn't necessarily mean +Accuracy Enhancement.  It's just a classification for powers that require an enemy target to fire off their healing effect. The sets will have +Acc in them (where standard healing sets don't), but there's no need to slot those in RT.

It's not, between ToE+End in RT and the boost from Particle Shielding, a /Rad with endurance problems is one that needs a rebuild.  Put an Achilles here in the default slot and call it a day.

Love/Hate relationship with this power. Hate the Activation Time (3s) and that the animation doesn't fill the time so you're sort of standing there for a moment.  That said it's a solid pick.  All those various enhancement types mean you are spoiled for choice with dmg procs.  My preference is to pair them with 1 or 2 Acc/Rech pieces from the same set.

Honorable Mention:

Meltdown.  Scrappers get a 41.25% damage buff from this power, and it's "crash" is rendered irrelevant by /Rad's various endurance tools.  It's worth the extra damage for this one, and can also be single-slotted with various useful unique pieces.

Happy to help. Re: AW proc, honestly I couldn't tell you if it's doing anything or not. I don't track any metrics. Like I said, I happened to have one in my bins so I thought why not. Objectively, if I were to push the build I'd pull it for another damage proc, or find a better power altogether to put that slot in.
