This comes off the back of considering procced up Flash Freeze / Trip Mine on my Ice/Traps Controller. Never got around to that (because respecs are annoying) but this combo seems interesting. Gave another version a whirl on Beta (confirming mostly that procced up Caltrops isn't really worth it) and it seemed fun.

So here's a rejig based off playing a few solo missions on Beta. Thoughts / rejigs?

Nice build, @Carnifax!

I'll do a deeper dive later, but a few things that stand out:

  • I'd swap the PM proc in place of the Heal/End in Field Operative. It will contribute much more to overall survival.
  • Those D-Sync Decelerations are getting mega expensive! I typically don't consider cost in my builds, but you might even be better served by a plussed out tempered readiness Slow/range. Extra range in trops makes it much smoother to use.
  • No harm in replacing the regular defense IOs you have with +5 Lotg Defense. Sure the bonus won't exemp, but may as well pick up the regen at high level.
  • On this same note, enhancing Field Operative and Combat Jumping for defense is bad return on slot. I would rather see these spent on ranged defense efforts elsewhere, or other fun things you like. A favorite of mine is 3 slot explosive strike in Kick for Ranged defense. Obviously you won't be using the power, but this along with 2 slot BotZ (Blessing of the Zephyr) in travel powers is very efficient to get that last bit to softcap. You'll also want at least one botz anyhow for Knockback protection - a blaster's life is very sad without.
  • The idea of proccing out flash freeze is fun for sure! However, it's not really adding anything to your aoe cycle. If you like it as a neat thematic approach, it's fine! However, you'll be busy enough rotating NB, Irradiate, and your other good powers. From a functional perspective, you will likely be better served by an epic with a resist, layering this with your strong ranged defenses. You can control range well enough with combat movement. If you do take that approach, working in the +res uniques will be very useful.

Otherwise power choice is looking good, and the build will even serve you well as is. I'll try to find time to examine this more deeply later!

It's pretty much for the Flash Freeze > Trip Mine opener. Reunion is VERY slow at the moment pop-wise so I've been soloing a lot. Plus I like thematic builds, I've so many now they need something to make them interesting.

I've a cheapo non d-synced version here as well, just frankenslotting IOs instead. Won't make that huge a difference overall.

Good points on the Def in Combat J and Field Op, I'll rejig those

So I've made some tweaks and given up some Ranged Def to give Irradiate some front-end damage via Procs. Up to level 33 at the mo now and still really liking it (the FX help a lot. Proton Volley / Cosmic are just fun).

Took Hibernate both as a panic button and a Chance for Absorb mule (Only is bang on in how useful I've found that soloing, saved me a few times).

I find that the invis you get from field op and a stealth IO + some defense are enough to allow you to toe bomb. Since Irradiate has a large radius I went the hover blaster approach with my rad/dev, and I took the fire epic for bonfire which is more consistent area denial.

I skipped proc monster char in favor of Taser to stack stuns with cosmic burst, and Electron Haze is yet another KD/FF trigger.

If you change nothing else in your build, put a FF proc in trip mine. Even with no targets it can trigger when you plant a mine.

Is this doing pretty good gameplay wise?

Yep, like Nemo says field op + stealth Io is great for toebombing. Although Blaster Trip Mine is a smaller boom but quicker with no interrupt compared to Traps one.

You do need Def to survive a Nuke alpha (they'll get one shot off). Note that Trip won't consume the 60% damage buff from Targeting Drone. I'm unsure if it inherits it (I suspect it does but only for 0.75 seconds so it's possibly ineffective)

I considered FF in Trip Mine but haven't gotten round to it yet.
