SS/Invul Superman Build with laser vision

Recommended Posts

Been tweaking this build today and would love some feedback. The core theme is super man (SS/invul, flight, laser vision) with a focus on rounded out defense and resists without sacrificing too much attacking power. Would love any advice if it can be tweaked further to provide an even better combination of defense ,resists, and damage.

After spending some time with this I'm not 100% convinced I need hasten; by replacing it with Maneuvers I can soft cap all type DEF except Psi & Toxic. Also replaced conserve energy with Focused accuracy for a +perception IO. Only question I have now is what to do with the single Maneuvers slot - currently has a LOTG global recharge. Another option would be a kismat +accuracy OR I could take the lady gray slot from Laser beam eyes and add a slot to maneuvers for both LOTG and kismat.

Recharge is from proccing forced feedback +recharge. and +to hit is from proccing chance for build up (rage is not active)

If you open the data link you'll likely need to 'reset' Invincibility by right clicking it while in the info' tab and putting foes to 0 and then back to 1

As part of a page 5 respec, I recently dropped Hasten completely from my (solo build) Inv/EM tanker.

IMO There is one (sort of?) important reason to keep it, which I will mention but it looks as if you are going in a different direction, so YMMV: 6-slotting Dull Pain with Preventive Maintenance and having Hasten available to further improve (Global) Recharge ought to make a difference when tanking certain "end game" content. I fully admit that I run a sloppy tank on PUGs, but the combo of Dull Pain and Hasten has been very helpful with Lord Recluse (for example).

I can understand using Dull Pain as a mule, there is a lot of content where I never use it... but then again I often don't bother turning on several of the toggles either.

For your specific theme, there is another power pool you may want to explore: Force of Will. I'm not going to twist your arm, but consider:

  • Weaken Resolve (doesn't really fit the classic theme, but it is a useful ranged attack that accepts %damage)
  • Mighty Leap (OG Superman travel power, plus Takeoff that does PBAoE Knockdown)
  • Wall of Force (animation is like a "Hand Clap")
  • Unleashed Potential (a decent mule, ought to be even better with high-HP ATs for certain occasions)

Is this mainly for the large and frequent self heal? As well as the increased regen value of more health

Both. Lord Recluse will eventually hit, so the heal is probably more important. However, hitting the ceiling on Health (for Tankers and Brutes) is what make Regeneration more important for those ATs than it does for other classes. In my own (admittedly sloppy, but I've done this on successful "Master of" runs) tanking of Lord Recluse, my Inv Tanker shuffles between Rebirth (Destiny) and Dull Pain. The Crimson Prototype in Market Crash is another niche villain that those two powers can come into play. I'm not at all critiquing your build, it's more that the (perfectly valid) choice of powers and slotting may not cause any issues except in some limited cases.

I have only just revisited this character as part of page 5, he's been chilling since before the general resistance changes... but his two builds (one for solo, one for teams) never really relied on S/L being capped for his survivability. It made the build slightly less of an AWEZOMB tanker than was theoretically possible, but for almost all of my play style those choices didn't even really register.

Also raises the HP cap to max (my Inv/SS jumps to 3,200-ish).

I've actually been using @shadowrex's  build for my own Superman though I came to the no need for Hasten and adding Maneuvers independently before the second build was posted. I feel like it is serviceable for the vast majority content (on paper: He's only level 20 and not all Sets are bought yet) but what @tidge and @PLVRIZR said gave me some pause. So it I were to do a second build exclusively for certain tough enemies like Lord Recluse and the Crimson Prototype, do you have recommendations on where to pull slots from to 6-slot Dull Pain and (presumably) 2-slot Hasten?  Cross Punch, maybe some slots from Weave and Invincibility seem like possibilities. Any advice?

Here's my go-to tank, for all content - NUTCRCKR.  Currently VL 475 or something like that.

A couple of caveats/comments:

-NUT does not fly or have laser beam eyes.  Can easily replace Super Jump for Fly.  LBE is more problematic.

-I chose Pyre Mastery, because Char is ST hold (for sappers, etc.) and takes the +absorb proc from S. Entomb and Melt Armor is just a totally badass AOE debuff.

-You will not need Maneuvers, for the defense, unless your intent was to help in teaming.

-You can see from the build how I slotted Dull Pain with very inexpensive Doctored Wounds.

-Unstoppable is a mule and isn't in my tray.  Never use it.  Ever.  Not needed (see silly tough comment, below)

-Gaussian build up proc in Invincibility fires constantly when surrounded in melee.

-If you want even more "unkillable", look up Hyperstrike's Mo Durable build.   Having said that, NUT cakewalks through (non-HM) +4/8 ITFs and +4/8 fire farms, tanks LR and (while occasionally knocked back by the mag 100 knock), easily tanks Crimson Prototype.  Other than unresistable damage patches and GW's hold, is silly tough:  With Melee Core and Invincibility saturated with 10 mobs and one stack of MoT, he's 90% in every resistance category (and well over the def cap in everything but Toxic and Psi).

Finally, Foot Stomp is available at lvl 30, with the page 5 update.  Makes some of the earlier task forces, MUCH more enjoyable.

Hope that helps.
