Greetings all!

 

So here is a build I cannibalized from SD/WM and SD/SS builds here on the forums.  Vast majority of the credit should go to them for their awesome builds from which I took inspiration.  I hope I didn't completely jack them up too bad.

 

I understand Energy Melee is in a bad place since some uber nerf that happened to the set back on live, but I really would love for this to work as it fits a hero concept I'm developing.

 

Let me know any and all tweaks you all would make to improve him and make him viable for end game content!  Thanks in advance.

Here is an alternative with SS for my secondary.  Again, credit where credit is due.  I grabbed most of this build from another thread and tweaked it a little.  Thanks to the original build creator FUBARczar.

 

The tanky numbers favor Energy Melee by a small margin with an extra AoE in Spring Attack.  However, in the SS build, I'm missing the extra AoE, but was able to place the self heal back in from the original build I drew from, which would be nice to have.

Uhg, you are right.  It is not necessary.  Just an IO I threw in there.  Probably best(and what I would actually do) to put a recharge redux.  What about the rest of the build?!

Just one thing you may not have considered. EM clips horribly through the shield. I ran one of these and it bothered me no end. May not bother you but its something to consider.

Also, it sucks.

 

Playing concept heroes is great and all, but you're in for frustration especially if it's an alt for another character with better powers. You won't enjoy it. I leveled a Stone/Energy Melee Tanker to 50 purely because I liked his character (for roleplaying) and as much fun as I had roleplaying the character in Pocket D, I don't think I ever had fun actually playing the game with him. Part of this was due to Stone, but mostly it was EM.

Yeah, I ended up going SD/SS for my guy.  I read too many posts about how bad EngMelee is right now.  I will revisit it if/when the homecoming devs decide to tweak the powerset.  I just use auras and whatnot to get the desired "concept" effects on the toon.  He's 40 now and I'm loving him.  Tested out the build I'm using on the beta server.  Not a bad combo overall.  Will likely be pretty awesome when I get him decked out in purps and full incarnate powers etc.  Thanks for everyone's input!

Mechanically, Shield is probably one of the better primaries to mix with Energy Melee.  It's another set and forget set; you aren't depending on click powers like you would with Fire or Bio primaries.  It does also put inspirations out of reach during the long forced AFKs while you watch  the animations play.
