Stop Me Before I Start: Plant/Savage Melee Dom

I have yet to find a Dom I could take all the way to 50. Gotten into the 40s before but always burned out on the characters. 

 

Maybe it is that failure which has me looking to do the unusual (and without having done the usual), but I have had fun playing Plant/Savage up to near 40 so far and the idea comes to lean more heavily into melee. However, there are the usual issues of crowd control and not being able to take a hit which argue strongly this is not a wise path.

 

 If things are sufficiently controlled and I avoid being exploded, willl the following...well, not be godly but at least largely survivable?

Indeed thats the best way. However i checked your build and got some feedback for you.

 

  • At first sight you defense numbers looks great but those total numbers lie. Why? because Stealth. Stealth is tricky because you are in "hidden" mode yes... you will have 8.5% + def but once you step out from stealth al that % defense is gone. So, if you have your pet out you lose stealth inmediatly and with that your global defense went from 40% ish to 30%
  • You are almost with Perma Link Minds but lets say you cant keep it up or missed to push button and your defense went from 30% to 25%
  • Your attacks slotted with slow sets instead of damage sets... not DPS effective.
  • You pick some useless powers as Indomitable Will just for muling a LoTg same as Inflitration
  • Hasten just need 2 rech reduction that you can upgrade +5 when 50
  • Strangler your main ST hold tool is underslotted. You want that tool slotted properly. It will let you lock AV´s EB´s Bosses with just one click and domination ongoing
  • Carrion Creepers is advisable to frank-slot if you can. It pays off big time.
  • No travel power... well thats a constraint.

 

Also as an alternative i put together a build that you can test if you want. This build is focused on softcapp ranged defense with Perma Link running. If you pick Agility core you could have +2 defense extra for high end content. This build has 130% enhanced damage while yours just got 15%.

  • Thanks. I  usually try to toggle off things which are not broadly true (Hasten when not perma, Force Feedback, etc.) but missed Stealth. That throw a real wrench in things.
  • Slotted the attacks less for the slows than for the +Global Recharge.
  • Indomintable Will was taken from worry about Mez, but I guess 123% Global Recharge brings one to perma-Dom and so Indomintable Will is not useful/necessary?
  • Infiltration was the travel power. 😛

Thanks for the build. It keeps the powers I really want except Infiltration*. 

 

If you don't mind my asking, but how viable is the notion of being capped at Range to be able to apply controls then once things are sufficiently locked down leaping into melee range?

 

 

*Its a theme thing. He's a (admittedly  urban) druid, so good at moving about the terrain unseen.

You got the mechanic idea correct. Your first attack/hold/stun will be always from range. So once you locked most of every NPC, can move safely to melee range and finish the job. 

 

Also you can consider a different mechanic which is softcapp S/L deffense. Ice Mastery and Black Scorpion provide a S/L shield for this. Lets say something like this:

Thanks to the ice storm that has totally disrupted my ability to provide any details, I can't say much more than: This looks like a fun exercise!

 

I wouldn't be quick to write off Infiltration. I have a character that is using it (plus a jet pack) as his only inter-zone travel power. It is slower than other options, but I like that I can slot it with a Kismet +ToHit (while leveling) in addition to Universal Travel and using it as a mule for Defense pieces. The Concealment pool also offers easy powers for LotG mules for Global Recharge that doesn't require a complete set. If you do a slow level, Infiltration (taken early) is a good place to add mules.

Keeping Psionic Tornado at this point is purely about theme. A druid has to have his tornado.

 

Double confusion powers seems a bit wasteful but Coercive Persuasion and Malaise's Illusion both give +Recharge and +Range Defense as their 5/6 slot bonuses. Just as a matter of efficiency it seems like a bad thing to pass up.
