Struggles with Poison/Water

I built this one a few weeks back and cruised easily to 50, then respecced it and did the incarnate stuff, while working on a build that would eventually get IO'd out with appropriate sets.


But frankly since then it's become uber squishy. It fails to function at any level and faceplants if somebody says "boo" too loudly.


It did work well and I had enjoyed it on the journey but it seems to suffer serious performance issues now. I have worked on a few builds in Mids and all seem pretty similar but when it comes to the nitty gritty we're at an impasse.


I tried to post a build here but it's not playing nice so I guess I am asking what should I look for on this build and if anyone cares to offer their own design I'd welcome looking at it.

My thoughts with non-MM poison is that you want to be able to operate in melee range and not get mezzed. Venomous Gas suppressing as opposed to detoggling helps but I'd still aim towards likely clarion radial for the mez protection and extra special boost. I'd probably use dark mastery for Oppressive Gloom, Dark Embrace, and Soul Drain. You'll want to build your defenses to a degree that you're able to get in and get your debuffs applied. That said because mobs at range can still shoot you, you likely want some ranged defense as well.


Water wise, I like to proc steam spray, and on a poison where you have no other heal save IOs, slotting Dehydrate with some degree of Healing would likely be beneficial.

This is my Poison/Sonic. Built for high defense to stack with the -tohit. Works well in melee range where you can drop Poison Trap and stack the debuffs. I alternate Rune of Protection and Melee/Core for mezz protection and Ageless/Radial for debuff resistance.

I tried to make Venomous Gas work (on a /Poison Controller), but my experience was that in practice:

  • I couldn't affect enough opponents, and
  • I couldn't do enough damage from the point of PBAoE to enough of the opponents I was affecting, and
  • I couldn't survive the extra melee, on top of whatever ranged attacks were already coming my way.

There are circumstances where I felt it was doing something, but for me it just wasn't worth the power pick or slot investment.
