Howdy, just exploring the content and very happy this game has been resurrected. I would like to put forth the suggestion of alternate power animations for sets like Fire, Ice, and Psi Melee (non exhaustive list) to where one could choose to have all sword or all fist attacks. (and maybe extend the option to sets that share powers with these sets too.

Tentative example:
Frozen Fists = quick 2 hit slice
Ice Sword = medium straight punch
Frost = horizontal slash
Build Up = no change
Ice Patch = no change
Taunt = no change
Greater Ice Sword = frozen uppercut with slight windup
Freezing Touch = quick thrust with ice sword
Frozen Aura = no change

Alternate power animations are one of the most requested things that appear on this forum.

For now, hop over to the mods area and check out some of the threads, they will be very helpful in fulfilling your request.

That's funny, I just posted on another forum to support adding the Demon Whip animation to the Fiery Melee set as a customizable option... but yes! I support this.

Especially for Frost. That power looks so absolutely weak in comparison to say, Jacobs Ladder. It's difficult to see. Frost Breath has the same problem.

 

I wish the Devs would chime in and tell us their plans regarding customizable animations (if it wasn't already stated somewhere, and if so - please link me 🙂), in addition to stating how difficult it would be for them to do this. But at the end of the day, I'm just really glad to be playing again.

A Dev has posted recently that they are limited by the antiquated tool they have to use to make animations compatible with this game. I think I'm right in saying that they started out with the codebase but not the development tools and have been patching things together as best they can ever since. I'm sure they would love to offer alternative animations for everything, and it's certainly a popular request, but it's not desire that's the limiting factor.

when creating new animations this may be true.

but diversifying animations that share cast times is definitely within their capabilities.

Whether its a priority or not is anyone's guess

If the choice were up to me, I would prefer that the HC staff devoted time to building the tools to allow them to create new animations going forward than work to recycle existing animations as alternates for powers, accepting the short-term lack of options against a wider array of them in the future. However, since a decision like that is based on factors I have no knowledge of — the distribution of skills and time among the HC staff, the likelihood that NCsoft will continue to ignore the CoH rogue servers as long as they don't rock the boat, the progress or lack thereof in negotiations with NCsoft to establish some sort of legitimacy for the rogue servers, etc. — any such decision will be up to the HC staff.

Apologies if i somehow implied i would prefer recycled animations over new ones. 

I would genuinely be happy with either.

Perhaps if we chant it the devs will hear us?

Sadly I do believe that with the current antiquated tools for creating animations (from what I understand COH's engine is not compatible with ANY modern animation programs) a single second of animation takes days of active work to create. The example given was the innertube emotes. The devs have said this is not an efficient use of their volunteer time.

 

Hopefully a better solution is discovered so that we can import or create new animations more efficiently. Until then, recycled animation are the best option.
