Fire - Martial blaster advice

I've been meaning to give this combo a try.  I have never tried martial combat, and was wondering if anyone has tried it (especially with fire blast) and would  be willing to offer some advice.  I did a bit of reading and searching on this forum, and it seems that martial offers some decent utility as well as some nice melee combat options, but a lot of that information is a few years old and I was not sure if there had been changes that would not be reflected in posts from four years ago.  Any opinions about must-have powers in the secondary?  Also, what would you chase as far as set bonuses?

fire pairs fairly well with any secondary. 

Martial is probably one of my top favorite secondaries.

I don't know where the second quote came from in the above post by FFFF, but it was not from me.  If I knew the thread it came from, I would check it out 😃
