ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 So, anyone wanna go out for pizza? Definitely not gonna be seeing this one in a darkened theatre. But curious to know what any fans think of what they've done with the place. It's a Blumhouse joint, and written in collaboration with Scott Cawthorn, so it should be pretty darn nasty. Whether or not they stick to, change or add to the existing game lore - which seems to be pretty much laid out in the open from that trailer - is a good question. The animatronic suits are apparently a Henson job too, so it's a quality build... but a good finished product? WAKE UP YA MISCREANTS AND... HEY, GET YOUR OWN DAMN SIGNATURE. Techwright Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 I never played the game, though I viewed a few YouTube vids of it. I take it the little girl and the cop are new additions to the basic story?
ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted October 26, 2023 Author Posted October 26, 2023 Yep. Spoiler I've had to do some lore research for this short 'splaining, but... In the games, Mike the security guard is related to serial killer William Afton, and Mike Schmidt is a pseudonym. That's dropped for the movie. Abby is a new and fairly basic character in need of rescuing, so that she doesn't become like the other kids who possessed the animatronics. Vanessa the cop becomes the Afton relative in the movie - with the motivation to set things right. In the FNaF: Security Breach game, however, she's a main antagonist, as a copycat (copybunny?) killer. Reviews are in and, much like kiddie arcade pizza, lukewarm and a bit stodgy. It's also either had some savage edits or was deliberately tamed in the script, as it's PG-13 stateside and a 15 in the UK. 1 WAKE UP YA MISCREANTS AND... HEY, GET YOUR OWN DAMN SIGNATURE. Frostbiter Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 (edited) They should have just filmed for 2 hours in a real Chuck E. Cheese. That would have been horrifying enough. biostem Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 I never played the games, but there seems to be a lot of lore surrounding FNAF; Does the movie go into any of that? Also, didn't Nick Cage do some sort of gory parody of the concept of killer animatronics at a kids' pizzeria & arcade?
ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted November 1, 2023 Author Posted November 1, 2023 (edited) Some: seems there's been a lot of assorted game lore over the years, and not all internally consistent. But the core ideas about the murderous William Afton, his creations, and the kids that possess them are in there. And yes, Nic did a DTV called Willy's Wonderland. There are obvious debts to FNAF's general vibe: but the animatronics' backstory gives them no tragic or redeeming qualities, just murderous glee. And the equally corrupt townsfolk picked the wrong drifter to sacrifice... ...yes, it's more than a bit silly, but if you want to see Nic Cage kicking ass in spectacularly over-the-top fashion, give it a spin.
