Does anyone know what's going on under the hood with this thing, and how (or if) it interacts with Domination?

I've got a 50/T3d out Illusion Dom and have been running through the A Hero's Hero arc at various difficulty levels. There is a significant difference between how these fights go depending on if I do or don't slot the Fortunata Hypnosis proc in Blind. Without it, a +1 Chimera gives me a hard time, and a +2 is nearly impossible. With it, I can put down +3s (just Chimera, Shadowhunter, Nightstar and Siege so far) with relative ease. Dom Phantom Army will never be the taunting buddies that Controllers get, but only getting targeted 2-3x per PA cycle is pretty sweet.

The proc is just an 8-second, mag 2 placate. It doesn't stack, nor does it benefit from domination. I don't think mag 2 is sufficient to affect an AV.

The sleep component of Blind has an interesting mechanic that might be coming into play. It applies a mag 2 sleep if no other effects can apply, plus a second mag 2 sleep that requires a to-hit check. So if the purple triangles are up and the hold is blocked, you should be a getting a mag 4 sleep (which will affect an AV). That doesn't explain what you describe though, unless each of the two sleep components is triggering the proc and are being treated as separate casters and causing it to stack.

Hm, yeah that wouldn’t quite explain it (but it’s still great info!). I’ll have to play around with it more and try to isolate some variables.

Ok, ran a similar set of tests with a similarly setup Illusion/Rad Dom, and not seeing the Placate proc make a difference there. Which makes me wonder:

is it possible that the -Rech from /Psi, as heavily resisted as it is, when combined with the tiny Blind sleeps,is doing something funky to the NPC command string?

(edit: although that still wouldn’t explain the observed difference between proc/no proc…)

Sleep is probably the key word here.  Neither Sleep or Immobilize are effected by PToD as mentioned to by @Uun.  Not familiar enough with those AVs (any more) to know if maybe something detoggles or is otherwise suppressed by being slept even momentarily.

I could buy that if the variable wasn’t the Placate proc. A mystery…
