Newish player: SS/Rad? (Solo)

Heya!

I am kind of newish, played the last time when homecoming came out, but didn't really touch the game since.

 

Last time I played a SS/Willpower Brute to level 50, but want to reroll to relearn the game. From what I can tell the current "go to" for some easy play is SS/Rad.

 

Anyone got a MIDS build that they can share, which can be used with normal crafted enhancements (nothing set fancy, just base stuff that I can then build up on)? Or maybe a suggestion for another combination that is laid back, and solo friendly? Or should I just try to reroll SS/willpower and recreat my old build on a new char?

 

My main goal with this is to just jump in the game from time to time and run some solo stuff, working on badges and such. (Not looking for farming AE).

SS/Rad can be pretty powerful. It's all how you make it, and what you're going after. Out of the box rad armor does a pretty good job helping with resistances and absorb. I personally don't try to res cap any of my resistances without the use of say: meltdown, demonic, melee core, or rune of power. Cycling those powers can help get you to your resistance caps, and give you more flexibility for slotting for damage.

 

I recommend damage proc slotting rad therapy and ground zero as that significantly helps with your AoE damage where you're just using Footstomp.

 

Also when slotting for sets, resistance is important, make sure to cap slow resistance, and aim for a reasonable amount of recharge. It's not necessary to build for defense if you run capped res, 100% slow resistance, and cycle your clicks rad therapy/ground zero.

That is usually my main issue, since I am not really sure what to pick power wise, which extra powers i should take, etc.

Here's a quick attempt at a cheap SS/RAD. I kept set IOs to a minimum, although I did include:

- core IOs that provide a tremendous benefit to the build, like Gladiator's Armor, Shield Wall

- set IOs that give a good little boost and are in the 1M-2M range

The power selection and slotting is mostly similar to what you would do with an endgame build, except it slots Punch which you would never do normally. Punch is here because we lack the recharge to cycle attacks otherwise.

I made the opinionated choice *not* to proc bomb Radiation Therapy or Ground Zero. Dark Obliteration on top of Foot Stomp is in my opinion enough AoE, and I prefer to focus on other constraints in a cheap build.

 

This can be improved in many ways, but it should be a good base to refine and under 100m inf.

I use Ninja Run for all my characters to travel. Here you can easily remove Summon Widow if you want to fit Super Speed or Super Jump. If you wanted something more exotic like Teleport or Flight, it's also palatable to ditch Maneuvers.

I made one of these when Homecoming surfaced, got him to 50, and he just sat. I dusted him off, cobbled together an updated build from various ones here, and here's what I came up with.

 

@nihilii I could not get that data chunk to import into the new Mids, no idea why. Update, I got it to import.

 

Here is my current. I just updated it in Mids for what I currently have versus what I was aiming for, and the totals are off. I can't figure out why. It's showing Elevated Resistance total, most notably. S/L/E is at 70%, Cold at 29%, Psionic at 54%, Toxic at 81%, Neg at 57% and Fire at 63%. I suck at using Mids and Forum features.

 

This is not as inexpensive as @nihilii build but it doesn't use anything I would call crazy expensive.
