Does any one have build a guide for Dom- Mind/Fire AT ???

War012

Recommended Posts

hey, this is my main alt - have been playing it non stop for 5 years on HC and a few years on live before shutdown

from mind control:

Dominate, Confuse, Total Domination, Terrify and Mass Confusion are all must haves. i think mass hypnosis really useful, having an AoE sleep is a useful tool to prevent additional aggro. telekinesis is a 'fun' power but it's not hugely useful, i have it on my build for fun but it's not essential

Mezmerize - i'd recommend picking up Mesmerize and slotting it for damage, it's handy as a single target psi damage attack in some content

Dominate - i've put the dominator chance for +dmg in here, i use dominate in every attack cycle, so it stacks reasonably well

Confuse - slot the contagious confusion purple proc in here, it makes it very nice

from fiery assault:

incincerate, fire blast, embrace of fire, blazing bolt and blaze are my must haves. fire breath is a surprisingly strong cone, if you line it up well it's very helpful in lower level content. blaze + blazing bolt will be your main 1-2, complimented wth fire blast and incincerate for additional damage - incinerate being your only melee power, which leads me to..

i've built my dom primarily just for recharge, as all powers are ranged, you don't take much damage as you'll often lead combat with a mez power - a mezzed foe deals no damage. i also team for 99% of my CoH life. i have scorpion shield from the mace mastery which has a lil bit of defense, but mostly chose it for the aesthetics of the purple glow

any mastery power is fine, after the recent nerfs none of them have notable "wow" factor anymore

the combination is a very very high single damage, blaze and blazing bolt both have 1s animation times and market leading damage, in terms of burst output it's up there with a number of blasters

mind control is the premier control set in the game, combined with domination will allow you to completely shut down battles that are getting out of hand. i primarily play my alt as a damage dealer, locking down the ocassional annoying boss during play. when things get hectic or a mob is particularly spicy, that's when i'll start using the AoE mez powers

hopefully this is a helpful start. in summary: just build for recharge to get perma dom, embrace the ranged benefits, use the flexibility of remaining powers and slots to enjoy the pool powers and procs that tickle your pickle

here's the build i'm currently running with. haven't yet slotted out poisonous ray because.. i'm lazy. it has a terribly long activation time, but it procs really well with achilles heel to give a combined -38.75% res which is helpful as /fire is a really strong ST damage dealer

some of the sets could perhaps take a damage proc instead of the other IOs in the set, but it feels alright for now

some notes:

- combat jumping is an early level 'must have' for me. because i'm using incinerate (melee), fire breath (cone) and the rest of my attacks (ranged), i like to be able to hop around as required and get into the right position for battle. i have no idea how people can play with hover, it would feel like taking an armchair into a war front line trench

- perma domination without hasten is helpful, a nice bonus

- veng is optional, just fun to have. when people die it's a handy +32-35% ish def for the team

- could probably put in the two 3% +def IOs into scorpion shield and slot poisonous ray less, one day i'll get round to it..

Obviously: Try to get perma-Domination, without Hasten. This will require quite a few pricey pieces, but accumulating merits will help you get them. You will probably need Hasten in the meanwhile, but I don't recommend taking it too early.

I have a Fire/Psy Dom, and have Mind Controllers so I can't speak directly to the Mind/Fire combo. In order to get the Global Recharge set bonuses will have to be leveraged, plus mules for Luck of the Gambler. This won't leave much room for %damage via procs. I would suggest the following strategy:

You will want to have (and use) both Confuse and Mass Confusion. Normally I recommend having the %Contagious Confusion piece in the single-target, but there are important considerations/reasons to put it in the AoE. The first is that you can boost the heck out of the Purple set to improve the recharge time on the base 4-minute AoE. The second is more subtle: because of the way the RNG works, you will miss critters upon cast of the AoE, but the way the Coercive %proc works means you will get a second chance to control any of the non-bosses that you initially missed. You can of course followup with the single-target Confuse. I recommend 5-slotting the AoE with Coercive set, and adding a %damage piece, any damage applied by the %proc gets you on the chance to receive drops when those enemies eventually defeat themselves.

The one power I would consider leveraging for multiple %damage is Terrify.

Holds can accept a lot of %damage pieces, but you will need to get Global +Recharge from those powers.

Be aware that you can only have a maximum of five of the same (by "name") global recharge bonuses. I have at least one Dominator that did NOT catalyze one of the ATO sets because it was already getting the 10% bonus from five other sets but still could take advantage of the 8.75% bonus.

I'm not absolutely sure of this.  But as perma-Domination is a necessity and needs 124% Global Recharge, doing that without Hasten will probably result in a warped build that pursues as many Global Recharge IO bonuses as possible and misses out on so much more.  Just take Hasten (and thus 1 of 4 Pool Picks and 1 of 24 Power Picks) and using it will give more build flexibility.

5x10% from a combination of five 10% "purples" and/or the Catalyzed ATO

5x7.5% from LotG (defensive powers or mules)

The final 36.5 isn't that hard to get without "warping" a build.

Non-LotG 7.5% are not hard to come by (for example Basilisk's Gaze is an easy 4-slot choice for a low-level single-target Hold)

8.75% often require 6 slots, but a Defensive or Healing power can do worse things than to pick Reactive Defenses or Preventive Medicine, plus the above mentioned non-catalyzed ATO).

There are smaller (6.25%) bonuses that come from things like Expedient Reinforcement, which is probably the best choice for Recharge Intensive pets.

All this without Forced Feedback %+Recharge or SG Base Recharge Time boosts.

Dominators have it weirdly (IMO) easy compared to other ATs to get +Recharge from set bonuses because of the options where to slot Damaging, Control, and ATO sets. They have it a lot easier than most Tankers for instance. The only different personal choice I make when going for a non-hasten Perma-Dom that is often different than for my builds chasing a LOT of global Recharge is to try to squeeze in as much slow resistance as possible, given all the other build constraints.
