Inspired by the news about Red One...

What are some good cape films/themed episodes/comics for Yuletide?

Obvious one to start with is Batman Returns - and if Die Hard's a Christmas film, then absolutely the Keaton/Pfeiffer flick qualifies too.

What are your picks?

BTW, although I haven't seen Red One - and from the looks of things, I may not be alone on that - I am still allowed to have an Opinion on one particular thing about the production. Rantette below.

Spoiler

Dear movie stars, and pretty much everyone else, in fact.

Show up on time.

I'm not gonna be like Bourdain, may the Gods of cookery and sarcasm rest him, and insist you show up 15 minutes early for shift. But there is a basic, minimum level of respect required to your colleagues, from your fellow A-listers to the craft service crew, that you work the same hours they do, and that you show up just prepared and ready as everyone else does.

If you for any reason cannot do that, then you need to let them know as soon as possible so things can be worked around.

I did not work on Red One, and cannot confirm the reports of DJ's behaviour or the resulting budget issues.

have worked with a number of similar "talents" over the years, and it's never fun.

Speaking of which, it would appear that the producer on this flick was very inexperienced with wrangling talent and far too deferent. That I have experienced in person, working with a well-known comic turned film star turned podcaster turned... some kind of particularly dishevelled grift guru, who ran rings around the starry-eyed manager assigned to babysit. Talents are like children. Rules. Boundaries. Guidelines. They need them. You don't give them, your failure as much as theirs.

Yes, btw, "you're talented/someone has talent" is a compliment: "he's a talent/oh gods, here comes the talent" is an insult.

It's very old-school and goes back to the days of variety/music hall. Sub-acts and touring players who joined in big sketches and group performances became part of your crew, the troupe - "troupers". Good to work with. And that reputation sticks.

Those who did their one schtick, took their money and went home were just "talents". One-trick ponies, sometimes literally.

That reputation also sticks.

Jingle All the Way is technically a superhero Christmas film. Howard (Arnold Schwarzenegger) even uses a jetpack.

Iron Man 3 is set around Christmas, though its more a background to the film, except for a few big gifts at the end.  The scene that introduces Killian to the audience is a flashback to a New Year's party.  Whether the movie is "good" or not depends on what you feel about the Mandarin.
