Yomo Kimyata Posted December 7 Posted December 7 Never tried them on scrappers and I’d like to check it out but I don’t particularly enjoy setting up on test server, so thought I’d ask here. Who run Bartertown?
tidge Posted December 7 Posted December 7 I very rarely ever take Patron pets (or a Psi Nexus) on any character. I've done it for theme, and when I had a character that was already taking a Patron pool and I happened to have at least 3 extra slots to spare for them. I think a Crabbermind is the only character i have where I knew going into the build that I'd have one. Anywho, when I have them, I pretty much just summon one whenever it is available. I don't put any more thought into it than that... except on one of my defenders, who will usually try to remember to buff it. My guess is that for a Scrapper, there isn't much that the Scrapper can do to help keep a Patron/Epic pet alive, except to keep on scrappin!
SomeGuy Posted December 7 Posted December 7 If you can keep it alive? Pretty strong DPS boost. But...they have a tendency to fold over pretty harshly. So I personally don't take one on a scrap/brute/tanker/stalker. 1 Pylon and Trapdoor Results Spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1d0VruEHGktnPFvtMLF_MdpKPBe0wgUhzyGvb1DQNQQo/edit#gid=0
Maelwys Posted December 8 Posted December 8 The best chance you'll have of keeping them alive long enough to matter will be if you take the Soul Mastery pet (17.5% to Melee positional Def) or the Ice Mastery pet (25%+ to all typed Def except Toxic) and you happen to possess a Shield Defense secondary with a decently slotted Grant Cover (~13.5% when ED capped for +Def). The two +5% Pet Def Aura IOs and Barrier can then get the pets to softcap. However that's a fair bit of investment and IMO the additional damage contribution from the pet themselves hardly justifies it. They're also difficult to control and prone to running out of endurance even if you can keep them upright. So personally I'd skip them and just go with a BP Radial Lore pet and/or some signature summons instead.
SeraphimKensai Posted December 8 Posted December 8 I've never taken one on a melee toon, but I have taken them on a controller/domi and a mm. I often don't bother getting one though for domi because ice mastery exists and it's the chefs kiss for a domi APP.
Greldek Posted December 8 Posted December 8 Mostly useless but fun sometimes, and basically need barrier for any chance of survival. The mu ones seem to do okay damage Psy does stupid knock back so if it's a 1 slot wonder put an kb>kd in it Leviathan, I couldn't even tell it was doing anything Ice mastery did get some extra slows in, which was handy as that character didn't have a taunt aura. But again, they die a lot and can't be counted on. But if I don't need a lotg mule and have a free power pick, I pick them up and try them out. They often get cut on respecs though.
