notes for hidden players

this may be a hot take... 😅

 

we need to be able to make notes for hidden players. (notes, if you do not know, are an individual player's personal notes of other players and are saved on your hard drive and no way impact another player directly)

 

i keep notes on other players, because:

1) i have a terrible memory

2) it helps me keep track of good and bad players.

 

my system is simple... everyone that gives me a good impression gets 3 stars and a note. formed a DFB? 3 stars and note. helpful enough on help channel that i notice? 3 stars and a note. give me a bad impression, like trolling, talking politics, bad behavior on teams? you get a 1 star and a note, and probably ignored too. farmers/LFFers that regularly spam LFG, that get my attention because it is often enough? they get 2 stars and a note. but anyone that gets a note and stars, they can go up and down, given future interactions, etc.. if someone moves up to 4 stars or more, i generally make friends with them. i also enable player ratings, to be able to see who i have made notes on, seeing their star rating when i am out of my tree or teamed up.

 

but... sometimes i encounter misbehaving players that are hidden. when i pull up their note, it only shows their local name, and the note is not saved under their global name, as far as i can tell. this means that they can act sort of anonymously, but not really. i can get their global account name, it's listed on the global tab when i pull up their note. they're hidden, but not hidden. they are just immune to having someone like me making note of them and their behavior and linking it to other alts, while hidden or not. these misbehaving players are probably hidden because they know they are trolling and wish to do it anonymously. but they are not anonymous, i can see their global easily. i just can't link them to other alts that they have.

 

so i am faced with a choice; ignore them globally, report them, or let it go. i don't like ignoring someone without having a good reason, and sometimes it's not enough reason to ignore them on first impression. often it's not enough reason to report them either. but letting it go lets this person get away with questionable behavior too. that is why i like having notes, because then i can see if there is repeating bad behavior by this player. everyone can have a bad day, but if they are a repeat offender, i want to know so i can either avoid teaming with them or ignore them globally.

 

i understand why people want to be hidden, and maybe this is a hot take and controversial, but if they are speaking on the help or general channels and/or not behaving in a player friendly manner, i want to be able to make note of them. they are not anonymous, but misbehaving players can act anonymously.

 

TL;DR version: hidden players are not hidden but can be anonymous since notes do not work globally with them. please change that. 🙂

You can get their global name and then use /playernote <global name> to add/edit the player note as normal.

While there must be valid reasons for being hidden (stalkers?) there are some players I encounter who must (in-part) decide to be hidden because they are skirting some of the terms of service... most obviously multi-boxing in the open world at certain times.

There are players that choose to go hidden while playing simply because we don't want to deal with others. I'm one of them. Not frequently (for being hidden), but I am one of them. However, when we see something being broadcast that we decide we want to join, we go to join just like anyone else. And half the time I am hidden and decide I want to join something forming? I forget I am currently hidden and wind up teamed as hidden. (Though there have been cases where I chose to stay hidden rather than forgot I was hidden. Sometimes you just want to limit the number of people that know you are on.) I can't speak to @Ridiculous Girl's post because her post states they are misbehaving while hidden. However, yes, there are valid reasons for players to play even on a team while hidden.
