Defender for team of 6

what would be better defender for my static team of 6 emp or dark? we will be starting lvl 1 and play together thru lvl 50

Of those two options, I'd assume Dark... but it'll be impossible to say for certain unless you tell us what the other ATs and Powersets are. And what your secondary is going to be will play a part too (will you be inflicting notable AoE -ToHit etc)

i’d go with kin, a team of 6 would be pretty sturdy and won’t need what empathy offers

 

speed boost will be really appreciated by the team from lvl 12 onwards

Its going to be dark themed static group. I know there will be electric / dark brute. There will be dark controller but not sure what its secondary will be. there will be melee scrapper or stalker

And here I was getting all excited about 6 Empaths destroying everything from about level 15 onward.

Get the 'Troller to go DarknessControl/Kinetics so you can run with a DarkMiasma/DarkBlast Defender (or Marine/DarkBlast if you can canon it)
With Fulcrum Shift + either multiple TarPatches or Whitecap+ShiftingTides it won't really matter what your other teammates are running. You'll be steamrolling.

Seriously go Dark/Elec Defender. I have one and it offers a ton of damage mitigation (via tohitdebuff, -damage, end mod, disorient, and slow), and also offers some pretty hefty -res and -regen. Oh yeah it also has a heal if necessary but once built out likely won't need to.

 

Mine decimates mobs and can tank AVs, l well enough that I have provoke in my build.

I do know the most potent team my group of friends and I put together on LIve, this one around i16 or so, was a dark themed team.  Only 5 of us.  One Dark Melee/WP scrapper and 4 Defenders (DM/Arch, DM/Dark Blast, Cold/Dark Blast and a Sonic/Dark Blast.  In our low 20's we were chewing up +4/x8 Arachnos in Faultline with very little trouble.  I think in fact it was a little too easy and we got bored and playing them sort of petered out.  I think only my Sonic/Dark actually made it to 50 playing with PuGs post 30ish.

So many options, what do you think is necessary for your needs for such a team?

 

examples like:

I need to have a rez in my toolkit

I need to be able to break people out of being mezzed

I need to hang back and provide support or I need to be in the thick of it

 

etc...

any defender will be fine, choose the one you want to play the most

 

the game isn’t that hard and very few challenges require a cherry picked team. look at the sets available and pick whichever looks the most fun to you and your friends

That's not what I'm getting at. Poster has a tendency to ask "what's best" instead of sharing insight into "what do I really want and what are MY requirements and success criteria?" I'm just trying to help him/her narrow down suggestions to something that aligns with that.

 

I mean i can tell him the Elec/Dark is da bomb but he may find the play style a bit frantic, I can also tell him Emp/Dark has a lot of support synergy but he may find the lack of debuffs boring. All the suggestions I've seen are personal recommendations that are not grounded in any real requirements from the poster.

 

When you don't know what the poster really wants how the hell can you help? Do more discovery people!

I had the mindset coming from wow after coh closed down of "what is meta" "what gives the most bang for the buck" it was a hard mindset to break but when I finally did THAT is when the real fun began.
