Invulnerability and Stone Melee Tank/ Questions about game play - confuse and status resist, FREEM and villains

Hi, trying to see if this first one is a recent change or bug? Asking as it's newer to me and I've played Zappalina my tank on live and HC for awhile as she's my fave.

When playing my main Tanker Invul/Stone that has focused accuracy from the Epic set, I tend to run into crowds and target the one I think is the most a determent to me or the team. I usually do succubus' because they can confuse my Tank and when I forget to notice the word "confused" and do an AOE not fun for squishes who may be trying to buff near me.

The power I posted above when I run in now on a +3 and +4 reputation/notoriety setting it will miss the first hit I target the succubi with.  Without them doing any kind/form of attack at first. 

  • Are the succubus having an auto -tohit without firing off an attack like hellish bolts which has -tohit? meaning Do the succubus also have some form of - to hit buff automatically? FYI the COT around the succubus at that time are Behemoths, usually the ice CoT either the lower level ones or the monster looking ones.  An occasional mage - but not Spectrals or Ghosts which have the de-buffs, and again running up and striking quickly usually before they react with an aura if possible.

My attack chain for succubus are usually: Build up, run in, seismic smash *sometimes I forget build up but with focused accuracy and invincibility always running - then miss the succubus then the second hit lands.

Second, about confuse; This is newer to me and first noticed it in a more Manticore task force from the Paragon Protectors but also with the Succubi.

  • Why am I getting confused?  Haven't I had inherent invulnerability tank powers with resist in them to confuse? and have set bonuses and procs for mez - isn't confuse a Mez? I did look up and see that what I need for resist to confuse and, falls under status protection.
  • I tried to research on this and on city of data - Confuse comes up as a psionic attack.  When asked in the help channel on a shard/server someone mentioned that in crafting it is grouped with debuffs. On my powers it comes up as Status and is 0.0 (why?)
  • I am assuming that these below are the only powers (resist physical damage, tough hide, invincibility) I have that protects from confuse at this time? *The resistance to defense debuffs or maybe the 2.7 to psionic in invincibility, are they?

 

Freem - Why is that power occassionally knocking my tank back? (joke answers welcome, however is there a link somewhere to what it has to kb? because it does that from time to time)

Mez resistance is not the same as Mez protection:

tl:dr Resistance will reduce duration, Protection keeps it from happening.

 

FREEM has a very high magnitude Knockback (I want to say like 21 magnitude, but I can't find it in CoD) and (if I remember right) was added to make Council more dangerous, even to characters that normally aren't troubled by knockback.

So in order to prevent confusion from happening, you need confuse protection. If you had Mag 10 Confuse protection, the enemy would have to stack a couple of Mag 3 or 4 confuse attacks together on you (beyond mag 10) before you would become confused.

 

Mez Resistance simply reduces the duration of the mez. So if you had no confuse protection and you get hit with a Mag 4 confuse with a duration of 20 seconds, your mez resistance (as shown by your current numbers) would reduce that to 10 seconds.

 

A lot of the attacks that cause confuse may not even have a position type, and may be strictly psionic, so you would need psionic defense to have a better chance of the attack "missing." Your psionic resistance will only lower the amount of any possible damage the power may inflict. It does not affect the success of a mez effect.

 

The Crey that is causing confuse is Crey Crisis Unit.

Freem isn't that new, but it is a fairly recent addition. Its like a crit in a sense and it was added to give the council a little boost as they were largely seen as the weakest enemy group you could come across. This gave them a little more teeth.

 

As far as Succubus, I don't see any auto To Hit Debuff powers on them, but there are a lot of CoT enemies that have [Chill of the Night] that are likely to be surrounding them. Namely the ghosts (like you mentioned) and Death Mages and Master of Death.

Re: Succubi.  There is a maximum chance to hit off 95%.  This means that regardless of how much accuracy and to-hit you have you will always have at least a 5% chance to miss.  I suspect that’s what you’re seeing.

What this team needs is more Defenders

Freem is a ridiculously overpowered retooling of Council in a successful attempt to make them more boring than they already were... Apparently Council was being farmed which bothered the Devs for some reason (because it's not like there isn't other farmable content..). Anyways... Freem stacks, from Rockets and Grenade Launchers, Warwolf hits (normal (lts and bosses) and the Nictus attacks, and I think the reg Bosses have something before the transform. Nearest I can tell from my testing 20 KB protection is needed to prevent it. Or, at least it provides enough for you to take down the minions contributing to it (rockets and grenades) while you slowly whittle down the Warwolves (Nictus Rez, bosses transform into Warwolvex with a big sack of HPs --- Yawn). 20 KB protection will also make you popular for Taunting Yellow Mitos and perhaps help with some GMs (Io(?)), I haven't had time to fully test this. But, you will need to change your build a bit, sacrificing a few more slots that would other be more useful elsewhere. The change penalizes Fiery Aura and Dark the most, not sure why that was necessary, but it's what we've got now.  If you're going Council hunting proc out your ST attacks for bosses and AoE everything else.

 

KB Protection IOs:

3 Fury of the Gladiator (3)

Karma's KB Protection (4)

Steadfast Protection KB Protection (4)

Blessing of the Zephyr KB Protection (4)

Acrobatics from the LeapingPool (7, provides additional KU, Mez and Hold Protection) a bit more protection at the cost of a power choice. So on tight builds not really feasible (and you have to take two powers prior to unlock... so a bit of a "meh").

Invulnerability's status effect protection is in Unyielding. It has protection against hold, immobilize, stun, sleep, knockback and repel. It also has 10000% knockback resistance, which reduces the distance of knockbacks that have a magnitude higher than your protection (mag 10). Confuse is a status effect. Invulnerability has NO status protection against confuse. If you want to add confuse protection, you need to take Tactics.

 

The confuse power used by CoT Succubus is Come Hither. While not auto-hit, it's typed as a Psionic attack with no positional vector. Because it's not a damaging attack, you need psi defense (not psi resistance) to avoid it. Invulnerability has a small amount of psi defense in Invincibility (plus whatever additional psi defense you have from set bonuses) but it's probably not enough to block their attacks.
