Hi, I'm working on a concept for a Tanker that has the following possibilities for power sets

a) Shield Defence

b) Super Reflexes; or

c) Willpower.

 

Which of those are the most fun while also being viable (I'm not concerned about min max levels of optimal but a power that can't do the job because it's too weak isn't fun either)? 

 

What are the pros and cons here as you see them as well?

I go with the order you have them listed. 

 

Shield gives you Shield Charge which pairs well when all 2ndry sets and is extremely fun and effective to use. Defense based, but you can get decent resists with IOs and you can do additional tuning with Incarnates.

 

 Super Reflexes (SR), good overall Defenses (probably the best). You can get to Max Def pretty quickly (? level 25 iirc). No damage or effect aura which is a down side for me, but paired with either Spines or Radiation Melee you can pick one up.

 

Will Power, not my fav, but many TTer's love the set. Good overall survivability once you get it slotted and tooled in. Again, no damage aura, so same deal as SR (2ndry wise). Combines Resists, Defs and Regen (interesting mechanics).

if your looking for a top tier tank pick SHIELD or Super Reflexes and build with thier weaknesses in mind(no self heal or END recovery)

 

Willpower is fine if your not planning on doing hardmode stuff--but it just doesn't hold up.BIO is far better (min FX graphics) at the same job

Willpower NEEDS a buff( give it DDR at the very least)

it already has some DDR, I wouldn’t complain if it was increased (I think the tank number is around 27%) but it is there.

I'd say Shield too yes.  All the beefiest armor is compacted into the early power picks.  Those first 3 armors can be built quite strong later on with IO's and bonuses and such.  My shield tank can get 90 DDR only SR is better but Shield can get access to much better uptime resistances.  Then you get Shield Charge which is an awfully fun attack.  Only thing Shield really lacks is a heal which SR doesn't get either.

I've had more fun with a Shield Tanker, because of Shield Charge. SR becomes crazy good at surviving.

 

Willpower is fine, but I prefer to use that on other ATs. I can see using it, but other Tanker primaries just do more IMO.

I've got a Shield/Savage Melee tanker I really enjoy:

 

2 cone attacks [Shred, Cross Punch]

6 aoe attacks [Savage Leap, Rending Flurry, Shield Charge, Spring Attack, Ion Core Final Judgement, Hand Grenade]

 

I also took [Energy Mastery] for [Conserve Power, Focused Accuracy, Physical Perfection]

 

I haven't built a tanker with the other 2 options..so, I can't give feedback on those...
