To name ambushes, I gave it the name of the boss, then the damage it triggered at:  Captain Potaczala 75%, Captain Potaczala 50%, Captain Potaczala 25%

I noticed the UI was soon calling it "Ambush: Captain Potaczala 75%%", "Ambush: Captain Potaczala 50%%", and so on.  Then "Ambush: Captain Potaczala 75%%%%".  Then "Ambush: Captain Potaczala 75%%%%%%%%".

Soon, attempting to save resulted in sixteen "The field name exceeds the text limit" error messages, and the AE file could no longer be saved.

Special characters are known to cause problems. I recommend just labeling them without. Like "Ambush Captain Potaczala 75" (without the quotation marks).

There is a quirk in the text parsing where '%' is interpreted as a special command (I forget which off the top of my head), so when a text file containing a '%' character is read, the '%' is prefixed by another '%', so that the parser understands that it's really just a '%' character. The problem is that the prefixes aren't stripped out of the text after the parsing, so that what you saved as '%' becomes '%%' when read back in, and then if you don't clean it up manually, it saves as '%%', so that when it's read in again, each'%' gets its own prefix, becoming '%%%%', doubling with each uncorrected save.

and srmalloy is correct, it doubles the error with every save... to make matters worse, it seems to also insert invisible characters, so even if you manually deleted the extra characters in the UI, they may still be hidden ones that occupy text space. that typically comes from have a double space inserted between words or sentences. the best way to treat that is to cut out the text, edit and clean it up in a separate text editor. 🙂

You don't need a GM to delete the thread. All you have to do is choose to edit the thread (OP) and select Hide to make it go away. As far as anyone not a GM or dev is concerned, the thread would be gone. No one would be able to see it any more. I don't think even the author of the thread, you in this case, can see the thread once it is made hidden.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

no, no... no need for that. it's good that these types of issues get bumped up, because things like this educate the players on bugs and obstacles in play. though i doubt this can be fixed, there are some thing too entrenched to easily fix. 🙂

besides... i thought it was funny and left it in my AE mission because it does sort of break things without seriously breaking things... 😄
