Seeking remedial instructions to successfully install MIDS Reborn on my iMac.

Hi All - 

 

As the title says, I am seeking current remedial instructions to install MIDS Reborm onto my iMac.  I have tried with the instructions posted on the MIDS Reborn website and also consulted these forums and I was unsuccessful twice.   my guess is it was operator error due to not fully understanding the instructions.  I currently have MacOS Sequoia 15.5 and Wine terminal 2.14 that allows me to play CoH.  I am not very computer literate so a phrase like "you need a visual desktop" is not helpful but "download this software & this is step by step how you install it and set it up" is helpful.  think of explaining all of this to your grandfather.  Yes, I am asking for remedial instructions because my hobbies are CoH and licking windows : )   Hopefully one of the more computer literate people out there can assist me.   Thank you in advance.

https://launchcat.powermadsoftware.com/ -> Mids 4 Mac is what I used to install Mids on my Mac. It's an M4 running 15.4.1, just make sure to follow the instructions *exactly*

You MAY have to go to Settings -> Privacy and Security, scroll all the way down and find "Mids Reborn Installer" was blocked to protect your Mac, click "Open Anyway" enter your password, and let the setup run.  You'll likely ALSO have to do the same when you run "Mids Reborn".

Actually... hold off on this.  It looks like Mids moved from .net 4.6 to .net 8, and Mids4Mac is still installing 4.6, I was able to fix it with a hack, but I'm going to talk to @Manga

Manga has fixed this, and the Mids4Mac installer now ships .Net 8 that Mids wants.

Thank you for your reply.  I have previously tried that site and I was unsuccessful.  As alluded to previously, I am not really a computer person.  The instructions on that site assume a level of knowledge that I just do not have.  I seriously need remedial instructions in plain English for any solution to work successfully with me.

I'll post the "Installation Instructions" from the Mids4Mac zip.  It really is this simple.  the ONLY thing you have to do IF you're told it couldn't be launched is what I said in the first post:

Installation Instructions for Mids for Mac

Step 1:  Download “Latest Archive” Mids Reborn from midsreborn.com.

Step 2:  Extract the contents of the archive, and rename the folder to “Mids”.  Drop the folder into Applications.

Step 3:  Drop this “Mac” folder containing the Mac kit for Mids Reborn into the “Mids” folder inside Applications.

Step 4:  Launch the “Mids Reborn Installer” script inside the Mac folder first to get MS Visual Basic installed.

Step 5:  Launch the “Mids Reborn” script to launch Mids Reborn.

I JUST did this on my Mac back when I first replied and this is all you have to do.

Hi Michiyo - 

 

Thank you for taking the time to work with me.  I also thank you for your patience.  I was only partially successful at installing Mids Reborn.  It appears that extracting files is not necessary (or is it?  I couldn't find anything to extract).  I was able to get as far as running Mids Reborn Installer that launched the installation of MS something (cannot confirm the exact title of the software).  It said Progress: Initializing and after 5 minutes the progress bar had not moved off of 0%.  I assumed the installer crashed so I quit out of the installer.  Now when I click on the Mids Reborn Installer, nothing happens.  In the Privacy & Security, the Mids Reborn Installer is already allowed.  Should I just delete the files I downloaded & download everything again so I have a fresh download and try again?  I apologize for the operator error but I am the first one to acknowledge that I am not very good at this stuff but I am trying to learn.  Is there maybe a current video of how to install this posted somewhere?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but, I was able to follow the instructions and get mids installed and it launched, and about 20 seconds later it crashes.  attached is the backtrace if that is helpful

Hi All - 

 

An update for everyone.   I downloaded some random system update to my computer this past weekend & this required a restart.  Randomly today I decided to click onto the Mids Reborn Installer ... and it worked & installed in less than 30 seconds.  Wow.   Michiyo - thank you for your assistance and I recommend adding to the instructions tons that a full restart of the computer may be required.

I spoke too soon.  as soon as I tried using Mids, it crashed.   Attached is an error log.  Any suggestions?

@Manga  Can confirm I see the same crash as well. May need a new wine version or something?

I was playing around with it a little and the problem is wacky! 

 

@Jerry, while we're waiting for a fix you can still use enough of Mids to make it worthwhile. Although we can't click on the menu items in the User Interface after Mids has started, we can use the keyboard shortcuts built into Mids which will allow us to load in builds, save, etc. For example, to Open a Mids file, press and hold down the Control key and then press the letter "O".  Not all of Mids' features have keyboard shortcuts, but enough do to make some of the app's basic features usable at least.

The good news:  The issues above have been more or less solved by including a later version of Wine in the Mids4Mac package.  The bad news:  You'll have to download it again:  https://islandrum.eekstudio.com/Mids4Mac.zip

That's not easy to do consistently from a script without creating an actual installer.  In the mean time if you drag the Mids Reborn script to Applications while holding Cmd and Option, it will create an alias.  You can then apply the icon to it from Get Info.

Hi All - 

 

In Mids Reborn, there was a pop=up window stating an update is available.  I went ahead and& updated the software.  I am now unable to launch Mids Reborn even after restarting my computer.  Any advice?

It's crashing on windows too last I checked.

deleted MIDS reborn & re-installed it.  The "Update Available" pop-up window happens but this time I dismissed it.   At least I can use MIDS for the time being
