Sonic Attack

Simplified the -res stacking

The following powers now apply a scale -1.5 resistance debuff for various durations:

  • SonicBlast Quick.png Shriek - 8s
  • SonicBlast Medium.png Scream - 8s
  • SonicBlast Cone.png Howl - 8s
  • SonicBlast Heavy.png Shout - 10s
  • SonicBlast Stun.png Screech - 15s
  • SonicBlast MassiveDamage.png Dreadful Wail - 20s

Design Notes:

This changes should make it much easier to understand Sonic Blast's -res effects. Each power is simply independent of each other and has their stacking set to replace. Players should be able to see slightly higher average -res than live with most builds, but the effects will continue to be much lower than they used to be before the last pass.

Good.  This simple change, which also simplifies the experience of playing the set (and reading the power descriptions, and understanding what your powers do), breathes new life into Sonic Blast Attack in a purely beneficial way.  What this does is it makes the debuffs work how many other powersets already work... mmmmm consistency.  Send it,

OK, so the blaster/corruptor/defender/sentinel versions of these powers now use the same stacking rules as the dominator versions did, and scale -1.5 across the board.

First - the dominator versions still do scale -1. It already #feelsbadman when I play my /sonic dom, and this might make it feel worse. Maybe now's a good time to align the dominator versions with the new -1.5 scales and durations. At -1.5, they'd apply the same debuff as corrs, but only single target, and fewer potential stacks.

Second - was SCoRE's weirdly low resist debuff modifier for sentinels ever explained? I can't know what SCoRE were thinking, but it looks like maybe they messed with the debuff modifier while balancing sentinel's old built-in debuff procs. Homecoming doesn't have those procs anymore. Sentinel's other debuff modifiers match blaster's, so bumping this modifier to match blaster (resulting in -9.75% sonic debuffs) would make sense.

Sonic debuffs on test right now
  Shriek Scream Shout
Blaster -1.5 (-9.75%) for 8s -1.5 (-9.75%) for 8s -1.5 (-9.75%) for 10s
Corruptor -1.5 (-11.25%) for 8s -1.5 (-11.25%) for 8s -1.5 (-11.25%) for 10s
Defender -1.5 (-15%) for 8s -1.5 (-15%) for 8s -1.5 (-15%) for 10s
Dominator -1 (-7.5%) for 8s -1 (-7.5%) for 10s -1 (-7.5%) for 12s
Sentinel -1.5 (-7.2%) for 8s -1.5 (-7.2%) for 8s -1.5 (-7.2%) for 10s

a welcomed change - much easier to understand. nice that i can stack a reasonable amount of -res on my kin/sonic again after trying it out

as a note to the devs, i’m not a fan of these overly complicated mechanisms like the version of sonic currently on live. combos and similar mechanics take away from the CoH experience by making the playstyle overly complicated
