CaptA Posted November 3 Posted November 3 I consider myself (in game) pretty wealthy despite not having billions in inf laying around. I have several supergroups that are all for only my characters. I'm a base builder, so that's the main reason for multiple SGs. When I came back to CoH, I created and played my main for awhile, and then I decided to create a farmer toon. I got him farmed to get to 50, and then used inf to build him up to a point where he could farm fire farms and start bringing in the inf and loot. That character was the last time I spent any serious influence on a character. Assuming you are at the stage where you are spending time generating inf and selling drops for more inf to build out your character, this is where my method differs from most: 1.) Build a base and drop in storage bins, salvage racks, and an invention table. This takes 10 minutes or less. 2.) Save every enhancement set recipe you get. Some of those early ones can be useful at 50 (Steadfast protection, etc.). You don't need to actually have the recipe you need - just make sure they are in the correct level range. Use DO/SO enhancements early on as you level up. 3.) As you get salvage, use it to create the recipes and drop the enhancements in storage. Drop excess salvage in the racks. 4.) I use inf to buy super/winter packs and for crafting costs. I use merits to buy converters. Don't have an enhancement I need? I convert others to get what I want. 5.) Convert enhancements to the ones you need or are likely to use. I have 2000+ enhancements in storage. When I hit 50 on a character, I just move it around to my various SGs and build out of my stored stuff. I leveled about 5 or 6 characters up to 50 during the Trick or Treating. I spent maybe 10 million on picking up stuff I didn't have or ran out of. People like to say that they "don't have time for crafting", but are willing to spend way more time farming for inf or whatever. Why sell something that can be converted into something you can use? The marketeers don't get much out of me. 1
tidge Posted November 4 Posted November 4 I generally do what @CaptA suggests, but with some variation of opinion on: On 11/3/2025 at 4:07 PM, CaptA said: 2.) A couple of things: At level 50, a player is (mostly) going to be getting level 50 recipes... which are the priciest to craft. Its more trouble than its worth to avoid getting level 50 recipes, but I will say I almost always vendor Rare (and Common) level 50 recipes, unless the hoard of Rare salvage aligns with the Recipe. Rare salvage otherwise gets used for Purple/PVP recipes. On 11/3/2025 at 4:07 PM, CaptA said: 5.) Convert enhancements to the ones you need or are likely to use. I have 2000+ enhancements in storage. I used to do this, but I came to think I was just hoarding. I don't make characters fast enough (compared to how much I play characters I already have made) to consume the pieces I have in storage. I'm far less 'proactive' about keeping certain enhancements than I used to be. I haven't 'cured' myself of this, but I've taken to having characters grab a LOT of enhancements out of storage early just to have some breathing space! 1

I do keep a supply of some of the more common ones I end up using (Accuracy, Healing, Stamina, Running, Flight) on every character. "I used to do this, but I came to think I was just hoarding." It is! But it's digital hording so I don't worry about showing up on any reality shows. Edited November 4 by CaptA 1
Bill Z Bubba Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago After this last break I took, I found myself mentioning to others how poor I was. My main had like 100mil on him and I was so sure that at one time I was rich. I've got one bin in the base for purples and there's like 12 in there. What had happened to my wealth? Then I checked email. Oh, good, there's a couple billion. Then my second account. Oh, good, there's a lot more. Then I checked all my 50s, and there's a couple pages worth, all loaded to the gills with purples, pvps, etc. +5ed, catalyzed, maxed out. Started diving through all my alts just to see what was what and sure enough... I ain't poor. But my wealth came not from marketeering. Nay, it came from killing mine enemies. And I kill well, so I feel wealthy enough. Plus my brother doesn't play anymore and I already have his blessing to raid his accounts should the need arise, so there's that, too. As 1954 stated above, it is subjective. I'm nowhere near being a trillionaire, like I suspect quite a few of you are, but I'm wealthy enough to get the job done. And apparently I have enough reward merits to fully kit out several more characters. I really should get around to spending those one day. Also, I just made 100mil selling ultimate insps to whoever is buying them for 1.5 mil to flip them for 2mil. 1
knightowl - Pinnacle serve Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I wouldn't say rich, per se - but I think I'm fairly well-marbled. Yomo Kimyata Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago (edited) A few more thoughts as I am trying to come up with reasons to not do other things I don't particularly feel like doing: "Rich" is a label, either for you or for how others perceive you. On the one hand, if you are able to meet all your character wants and needs in a timely manner*, you are rich. If you have more inf than someone else you are comparing yourself to, than you are richer than them. If you have some arbitrary goal like I want to make a billion in a day, or I want to accumulate a trillion inf, then if you accomplish your goal you are rich and if you don't, you are a pathetic loser. In a perfect self-aware world, the first one would lead us all to live in perfect harmony, while the last two are a little more venal and more demonstrative of human nature and the oft held desire to keep score and to win regardless of the consequences. *in a timely manner: Let's say I'm making a new character, and I just dinged 10 and want to equip a whole set of ATOs. Maybe (probably) I have that in storage somewhere, but then I'd have to hunt it down and transfer them to my new character, which is for the birds. Maybe I can buy those 12 enhancements on the market for, say, 100mm, but then I have to get 100mm on this character somehow, and what if someone else hasn't already listed the items I want at the price I want. I ain't paying no fifty cents for no Coke! Also for the birds. Maybe I can spend 100mm on hero packs and then open them and convert all the ATOs I get into the ATOs I need that will probably save me a few shekels but will cost me time and lots of clicking. For the freaking birds. I'm an economist by nature and I look at inf, time, and enjoyment as three commodities and I generally try to come up with a path that minimizes the first two while maximizing the last. My effective discount rate for time/effort is relatively high, so yes I am going to buy someone's expensive ATO on the market right NAO rather than find the one I already have, email it, claim it, and slot it. My time is certainly better spent ranting on the forums than saving myself a few inf. Edited 10 hours ago by Yomo Kimyata none of your business why I edited you nosy nellie 1 Who run Bartertown?
