Greetings,

I recently created a Regen tanker and was trying to flesh out all the passives it gets, when I found that a lot of the builds just use IOs instead.  In my opinion this is rather lack luster.  Filling out a character with all these great sets is a fun mechanic.  I'd like to suggest Limited Time Holiday themed origins.  These would give a set effect for a slot, say 35% enhanced damage, but double that if its slotted into a passive or a power with no set options.  These would be slightly better than Store SO's but not as good as IO's.

Suggestions:

1) Thanksgiving - Hearth Origins like Health and HPS.

2) St Patties Day - Chance Origins like Crit chance and Dodge.

3) Labor Day - Work and Rest Origins like Recharge and Recovery.

Thanks

Builds you find online are going to be optimized to the fullest extent possible. And that means IO sets and their set bonuses. You are by no means required to follow any of those builds. The game is still designed to be run with TOs at low levels, DOs at mid levels, and SOs at high levels. So you can easily take any online build you see, scrap the suggested enhancements, and just slot regular enhancements if you want. (Edit: And there are even recommended SO slotting arrangements you can look up if you want to go that route.) There are several players that currently play the game using just SOs.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm from the era of game that your describe.  I remember SO's being the thing everyone was after.  But since coming to Homecoming around Christmas of last year, it seems sets are what everyone suggests.  I have a couple of 50s fleshed out in level 53 SO's but they just don't compete next to other players.  They are still fun to play.  However as a person new to Sets, I tend to rely on other players experience and use their guides.  I just found most of the Regen tank builds, I looked at, used Workbench Inventions instead of named set pieces.  Kinda felt under gunned when compared to Ice armor tanks or Earth tanks.

That is always going to happen if you use IO set builds as the benchmark. I figure you already know this, but for the sake of comment clarity, IO sets grant their enhancement bonuses plus set bonuses for using two or more enhancements from the set. Whereas SOs and generic IOs only grant their enhancement bonuses. So SO and generic IO builds will always feel weaker than IO set builds. My recommendation, which still has nothing to do with the OP, is to just do whatever you find fun. You don't have to eke out every last 0.1% of potential to have a rock solid build that can clear any part of the game's content you want. (If you want to compete with the MinMax'ers though, you're going to need to use sets.)

Regen is kind of an oddball set.  Something like Fast Healing likely won't get more than 1 slot, maybe 2, and if that's the case, your best bet would be a level 50+5 healing IO simply because it gives the best results for a power that only has 1 enhanceable aspect.

I don't know  what is meta for regen, but to me it would seem you want 3 things primarily: resistance,  recharge, and -recharge resistance.   So I'd think other than with a few choice powers sets would be the best bet rather than common IOs.

What this team needs is more Defenders

I'm certainly in favor of a few more targeted enhancement sets, but I'm not crazy about the OP suggestions...

As I comment every time this comes up: The game could use a new ('seasonal'?) set that boosts control attributes without being a dedicated Fear/Hold/Immobilize/Fishcakes set... like the HO Endoplasm/Peroxsomes and Controller ATO do.... I can sort of see a potential database limitation standing in the way, but some control sets (ehem Fear) have somewhat limited attribute combinations. Selfishly, I'd like such a set for those powers that offer multiple different types of controls.

After such a set, I'd prefer more (and alternate) choices for Threat and Fear, although I am open to the idea of a set that might boost both healing and endurance modifcation... even though the powers that can be enhanced by both are somewhat few in number.

While I play all character types, I find survivability optimizing support types to be greatly harder than melees. That said, while possible to achieve reasonably good defense percentages it comes to a cost in power capability variability which melee types do not have to sacrifice at least not nearly as much as the support types.

I have observed that many of the sets abilities desirable by melee are consistently within the first 3 sets of an IO type, and the ones the support really needs are always the 5 and 6th. it would be nice if new sets would place the defensive bonuses on the 2 and 3 sets as opposed to the 5th and 6th.

I will confess, I use the heck out MIDS to design my alts, and I am very much IO focused to give all my alts maximum survivability. This is my choice, and how I derive joy out of the game when playing, I by no means intend this suggestion to force how I play on you; in this case, simply don't use the new IOs if they are made.
