Nemesor Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 I've heard that City of Heroes, Paragon Chat and were compatible with XMPP clients like Pidgin or Jabber. That way, players could use mobile clients and other clients to still keep track of ingame chat channels, send private messages, and so on. Is that still doable? If so, what would be the required settings for the server and channels? It's a very useful feature that helps people stay in touch, especially over different timezones.
Hyperstrike Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 There used to be such a setup. And Paragon Chat is the proof of concept. However, it's proven to be almost as easy to do with Discord, whereas Jabber/XMPP are essentially abandoned protocols. Also, you get the side-benefits of Discord (hierarchical permissions systems, media sharing, voice chat, etc). If you want to be godlike, pick anything. If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!
Robotech_Master Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 You can keep track of in-game chat channels and private messages with Discord? How? If you liked what I had to say, please check out my City of Heroes guides!
Hyperstrike Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 You can keep track of in-game chat channels and private messages with Discord? How? You have to coordinate with the server owner. But it's possible to tie in channels with a Discord bot spec-written for the purpose. I unfortunately don't have links. If you want to be godlike, pick anything. If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!
