IneptAdept Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 I have a few tanks; my favorite is my shield / electric melee tank, she is a blast in ITF 50+4. I finally outfitted my fire / fire tank with recipes, thought I had all the right values to survive (90%+ smash / lethal res, 44.3% smash / lethal def) went in and died from a meager mob of 16 or so with two of those beefy praetorian romans in the mix. Suggestions for improving my survival in a 50+4, or don't take fire / fire tanks in to a +4 ITF? Thanks. Call Me Awesome Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 They can and will strip your defenses in no time since you have no debuff resistance, however with 90% S/L resistance and Healing Flames to patch you up it shouldn't be that bad. I can't look at your build as I'm on my Mac laptop without Mid's but it shouldn't be an issue. I didn't have a lot of problems with a Spine/Electric scrapper back on Live in that situation and your fire tanker should be considerably tougher. Just bad luck with one group of mobs? Check on your actual defense/resistance numbers in game and make sure you didn't get something wrong, or have a brain fart and jump in without something turned on. At a guess you had one of them get lucky and drop your defenses, then others started getting lucky until your defense was in negative numbers and they were more or less always hitting you. Still, a 90% S/L resistance and a tanker's HP bar should have handled it easily. You should have seen a slow drop in your HP that Healing Flames could take care of while you took them out. IneptAdept Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 Thank you, I went last night at 50+3 with a great group, and saw my health waver a few times but we had a great healer, and I took Barrier as an Incarnate power, so maybe it was just a fluke. Thank you for your help. I will double check my numbers, but I think they are accurate. Have a great day.
Marshal_General Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I was just wondering how well a fire/dark tank would work in end game. I can get my s/l/f/e/n to 90 with the alpha, but the defenses are in the 20s and 30s. I keep trying to raise defenses, but it ends up lowering resists. Is fire a serious tank for end game?
IneptAdept Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 Sorry I can't help you with your question. Perhaps you could start a new post and include your build so that people see your question?
Marshal_General Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I was mostly wondering about fire armor itself as most of the time it seems it is only used for farm builds.
Call Me Awesome Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I've seen some extremely capable fire tanks who could handle anything the game threw at them. Yes, it's weaker in protection than some overall but it's still a stout base to build on. The whole point of Fire Armor was as an offensive tanker as opposed to a defensive one. Stone Armor was the exact opposite, all defense at the expense of offense. Guardian Survivor, occasional tanker and player of most AT's. Guides: Invulnerability Tankers, The first 20 levels. IneptAdept Posted August 2, 2019 Author Posted August 2, 2019 My build has resistances of 90% Smashing 90% Lethal 90% Fire 48.6% Cold 59.7% Energy 59.7% Negative 14.2% Toxic 14.2% Psionic Defense of 44.3% Smashing / Lethal 29.9% Fire / Cold 19.3% Energy / Negative 16.8% Psionic 40.8% Melee 18% Ranged 23.3% AoE I am sure there is room for improvement, but I focused just on Smashing and Lethal. Fighting 50+2s I have had no issues that I remember, the main thing to me is that he is a fun character to play and I just have to extremely careful and have a good team if I ever try 50+4.
Heraclea Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 One inexpensive - though it will cost you a respec - and practical way to add some toughness to your build would be to respec into Air Superiority, Fire Melee doesn't have much control going for it. Air Superiority will keep one mob bouncing and off your tail. You might try to get more mileage out of your Char, or move to another epic like Earth that will do more for you other than add more fire damage.
