These steps worked for me on Mojave 10.14.6.  I can't vouch for them on other versions of macOS.

The TL;DR version is to delete everything from the game and start fresh.  This includes the .wine directory from your home directory.  That seems key to success.

1) Rename/delete (your choice) /Applications/CoH.app

2) Rename/delete /Applications/coh (if you've already tried running the game)

3) Delete the .wine directory from your home directory.  This is a hidden directory and does not show up in Finder.  To delete it use the following commands in Terminal

First, see if you have the directory with this command.

ls -a

If you see it in the list of files then type this next command.  BE VERY CAREFUL TYPING IT OR PASTING AS A MISTAKE COULD DELETE ALL YOUR FILES IN THE HOME DIRECTORY.

rm -fr .wine

You can confirm by typing ls -a again.  It should be gone from the list.

4) Install Home-brew and Wine as mentioned elsewhere.  If you already have those, you don't need to reinstall them.

5) Download the latest Island Rum. http://telstar.eekstudio.com/islandrum-mac.zip

6) Let Island Rum install the files.  When it is finished, you should be able to run the 64 bit client.

These steps worked for me and for others on Mojave I have given them to.  The key piece seems to be the existing .wine directory because apparently when the new version of Wine tries to update it, it doesn't work right.  Removing it and letting it create a new one appears to be the solution.

It's worth mentioning that this could alternatively be named .wine32.  That's what I was seeing, but deleting it did the trick.

I found after doing these steps, it still didn't work, Island Rum would launch, but got hung up on "Scanning..." and wouldn't install game files. But I tried a reinstall of Wine in case Wine needed to reinstall after the directory delete, and got a message:

Warning: wine 4.0.1 is already installed, it's just not linked

You can use `brew link wine` to link this version.

So I did as it said, and tried Island Rum once more, and it started downloading files. After some trial and error (see below) I got it to successfully launch.

Things to note, however:

The newest version of Island Rum probably can be anywhere you want, but CoH.App MUST be in the Applications folder for it to actually successfully launch it. The "coh" Folder must be there too. Resetting Path did not seem to help Island Rum actually launch the game, only let it know where to look for the files to verify and install. I actually put Island Rum directly in the Applications folder.

I'm not finding a .wine or .wine32 folder on my Mac at all. I deleted CoH app and downloaded that new version of Island Rum. It runs quickly (all the files are still somewhere on my computer?) and says Ready to Play. but when I click the arrow. Nothing happens. Since I deleted the CoH app (as instructed above), I don't have that to click. Not sure what to do next. Any help appreciated!

Well I found the .wine folder after hunting high and low. I deleted it. But now when I try to run Island Rum, nothing happens.

I just re-entered the command "brew install wine" in a Terminal window, which is when it gave me the message I posted above.

How did you reinstall Wine?

  1. Open Terminal
  2. Type the following: brew reinstall wine
  3. Type the following: wine start

This will reinstall Wine and force Wine to create a new .wine config folder located in your home folder.

Good to know.

I didn't know doing "wine start" would do that, too.  Starting the game seemed to handle it for me, but good to know you can do it manually first, too.

Thanks! I also got some help from GM Capocollo on Discord this morning and seemed to have reinstalled it. Now it's downloading all the files again. Fingers crossed that it will work this time.

I got it working! My main problem was getting Island Rum into the right folder. I was trying to run it from the Downloads folder, which worked in the past. But I had to move it into the Applications folder. Once I did that I opened it again and typed "CoH" into the File: box at the bottom. It started downloading the files again, and when that finished, I was able to click the green arrow and the game opened. Woohoo!

Well, I can't get it to work. Island Rum keeps saying scanning, I've deleted and redownloaded everything at least three times, and it always says command not found in terminal.

Can anyone help me out with this. I did a clean install, deleted the directory and the game just hangs up, just goes back to a play button without the green check after a few seconds
