  1. For real. Like, if you're playing Mind/Emp or /FF... then, yeaahh, good luck. But if you pair it with rad, dark, time, or any other set with -res, you'll see a noticable impact. Pair it with Kin and you'll do respectable damage.

The thing with Mind is... it's busy. Other Controller sets do their damage over time, and have pets to do the heavy lifting, so all you have to do is toss out an AoE, or carrion creepers or phantom army, then let your pet go to town while you keep the pet healed. You're in no danger, damage is being done, life is good. Mind Control? You gotta WORK at it! Even if you Mass Comedy a group, if you want reward credit, you still gotta chuck out an AoE or two.

On the subject of Staff, do you feel needing 3 other attacks to fuel it should have a bigger payoff, or with how the game works where you'd naturally be swinging in between uses is it fine?

I'm a bit mixed on Staff. Like, I'll wait for the big AoE to get it's ring, and I'll use it, and then... all the bad guys are still alive. Which is fine, I don't expect it to be a one hit multikill, but, I don't perceive any difference between the buffed and unbuffed version of the power. It certainly doesn't seem to do any more damage... and this is on a Scrapper, so you'd think any extra % damage would be noticable.

I'm not saying there's no difference, just that it's hard to see and appreciate. Also, this is down at level 20-something, so maybe with higher damage enhancement, the extra damage really starts to show up.

But yeah, I got bored of that character pretty quick unfortunately. Rerolled as a Stalker, and it seems a bit more fun so far.

  3. So while i LIKE the IDEA of combo mechanics, whenever I play such a set, it rarely "feels good". Like, hey, this bad guy is almost dead, but NOW the orange ring shows up and it's like, do I use it? I don't have to, but if I don't, I feel like I've wasted my time?

Or it's like hey, I've built up my 3 points of whatever... too bad there's no one to use it on oh HEY there's a mob over there, I'll just- oh. My counters just expired. Sigh.

    =/

  4. The story there was that one of the devs snuck the source code to a prolific community member just after Live shut down. Said player then spun up the game as a private, invite-only server, which was kept mostly under wraps for about 6 years.

Then a bunch of STUFF happened, the server was revealed, and the guy released the source code for anyone who wanted to make their own server. Cipher was one such person, and was one of the first people to get a stable service up and running for more than a few weeks.

I'm being vague and not naming names because it was and still is a huge source of DRAAAMAAAA so the less said the better.

That said I'd be supersuprised if none of the live devs didn't play here or weren't involved in some capacity.

  5. So here's how the blue beams are supposed to work:

They target the person FURTHEST from King Midas.

They will NOT target the same person twice in a row.

So the strat is basically two people standing at the far edge of the room not attacking much, and moving the second the beam starts to appear.

This breaks down when Midas uses the D-Rifter and summons your counterparts/versions of himself/Professor Zeon. The blue beams sometimes appear just as you teleport in while everyone is grouped up, and baiting the beam by staying out of the fight isn't as reliable.

So everyone still needs to be on their toes, paying more attention to the beam than the actual fight itself.

    whoa whoa whoa

I missed this entirely in my entire COH experience.

    He's like her grandfather!

(also they are both NPCs, so its no big deal really.  Not as bad as Jamie and Cersi for example)

Yeah, part of her bio (which was repeated verbatim in the comic, much to the disgust of Ms. Liberty) said something like how she is entirely loyal and devoted to Tyrant, and serves him in... ALL capacities. Wink-wink, nudge, barf, etc. Because they're all EVIL and TWISTED versions of the noble and perfect beacons of Everything Good we know the Signature Heroes to be! (Today's dose of sarcasm brought to you by the hit series "Boy the early writing sure sucked!")

It wasn't mentioned much outside of that, and again, when GR came around the Devs were all "Nope!" and quietly retconned that out of existence. So you'd be forgiven if it got past ya 😃

  7. I liked the first two eps so far, but yeah, I wish they revealed a little more about Lucky to give some context (even if it would be a red herring) as to why he randomly attacked the tracksuit guy. Bigger question: why are these guys after Cap's old watch (I'm assuming that's what they were after based on context)?

I also like that Kate isn't a total Sue. She's strong, has some skills (which you see she earned in that amazing title sequence), and is fairly astute... but she also gets in over her head, makes dumb decisions, and doesn't realise that everyone is playing her like a fiddle.

I don't mind the lack of action, as I prefer the character development and world building they've done. I like the small scale and personal stakes they've set up here, and, unlike in TFatWS, there's good reason for Clint to not want to call in any fellow Avengers (like seriously, where was War Machine when all those senators were being held hostage by Super Soldiers?).

Looking forward to the rest of the episodes 🙂

I know I've seen it happen before but for the life of me can't figure out where.

I sort of thought it might be tied to ASF's 5 Column Nictus ripple, but after slaughtering a few baddies there and not seeing any transformations (well, on normal mode) I'm starting to question that.

Slaughtering them might be the problem. They only transform at a certain health percentage (33? 25?), and as LTs (I think that's the only rank that transforms?), it's very easy to overshoot and kill them before they can start their animation. So you gotta go with the slow and mindful approach.

  9. I wonder if it would be possible to keep WO prices artificially inflated during the event by selling them to "yourself" at normal prices during peak hours, so that whenever anyone looks at the "last 5" all they see is the normal selling price. You'd need to be constantly selling/rebuying dozens at a time, taking a loss on your listing fee each time, on the hope that someone eventually outbids you or types an extra 0. I feel like anyone with enough time, money, and boredom could probably pull this off!

  10. I say leave the p2w buffs as they are. If the discussion started with someone saying "its not fair that I bought these and I lose time by VOLUNTARILY joining a TF with temp powers disabled", then that logic is flawed. It's completely fair. You bought the full time on those powers, and are now choosing to run content that they don't work in.

I mean, I'm not completely against the idea of turning them into that big of an inf sink, but I just know I probably wouldn't use them to supercharge new alts anymore, as I'd go broke REALLY fast.

  11. Okay, SO! It's possible... By level 28! On an Illu/Kin build that is otherwise really tight! PA is ONE second off perma... UNLESS you get lucky with a hit of Wall of Force, which will proc the FF special and supercharge your recharge! Hell, you could probably lose a lotg or use a different set somewhere, there's some flexibility here!

For some reason, Mids is saying Hasten only lasts 30 seconds when it's actually 120, but yeah, perma Hasten, too! Also, /Rad MIGHT work, but AM is only 30% recharge and barely perma, so you'd be relying a lot more on the FF proc kicking in.

    • Price no longer scales with level. The price is now set to 2.5M influence/hour.

This item was unexpected, by me at least.  What is the rationale for this change?

According to what I read on Discord, they're giving us the option to "pause" temp powers like these so that the timer isn't used up just by standing around, or playing content with temps disabled. Combined with how OP it is to max out on these at level 1 or 2 for only a few thousand inf (and then spend a couple hours getting PL'd) they decided to kick the price up to a standard one.

To clarify my post and others -- I read this as people talking about exemping to lower levels *after* they hit 50 and get their IO's and slots. I don't think anyone has actually said "you can do it at level X prior to hitting 50". I might be wrong, and if so, would like to see the clarification.

Hypothetically, it might be... but you'd need 3-slotted Hasten, PA 3-slotted for recharge (never mind damage), 5 defense powers for LotGs (EDIT: Not so hard with illu, as it has 2 such powers by itself!) a KB aoe attack to trigger the Force Feedback proc, and a source of + recharge that can also stack or be made perma. For a level 20-ish build, that's asking a LOT.

Of course, now I want to try this, but I don't have time right now... maybe when I get home 😃
