  1. Free For All Zones?  As in PvP Free For All Zones?  That's never going to fly.  Free For All Zones in the same way that current PVE zones are, like the Echo zones already are?  Sure. (Well, they already are level wise, obviously Red and Gold can't visit them.)

Results of some pondering on this:

I think if you want to do something with Echo Galaxy City then Ouro is the answer IMO. Make it an actual level capped "Time Travel Zone" wherein there are missions attempting to warn the residents of the impending meteor strike.  Of course they fail, but what else is discovered along the way? Link it to BAB in present Atlas even, making him a contact as opposed to a trainer because frankly no one really trains with him.  Every now and then I suppose but mostly not.  "Hey, $name, don't I know you from somewhere? Did we meet in Galaxy City?"

Interesting discussion on PvP but on HC it is dead outside RV on Indom.  So reclaim Bloody Bay as a proper active zone for Redside. Let Arachnos bring Warburg to heel, more plots to solidify the Rogue Isles since Red Widow returned and poked Recluse into being a "normal" tyrant as opposed to whatever he was turning into.  Both zones are actually physically fun and interesting, but it gets tedious creeping around them.

    Siren's Call?  God knows.

The other Echo Zones?  I'll need to ponder on those, though I've always preferred the angle of the ship crash in the Rikti Crash Site to the Rikti War Zone.  Of course in an MSR you'd just fall off all the time!

  2. While this Redside discussion is ongoing, and this may have been mentioned elsewhere (and perhaps some PVP players will dislike this) but (a) reclaiming one of the Red PVP zones as a PVE zone, my choice would be Bloody Bay, and (b) perhaps upping the strength of the three nukes so that, as it was pre Incarnate powers, it's really worth going to Warburg again. Originally I wanted those nuke powers, now I just got them because I wanted the badge and haven't been back since really, which is a pity because Warburg is a great area.

Siren's Call isn't Redside, and frankly I'm not sure what you'd do with it right now.  Recluse's Victory remains THE PVP area of choice obviously, due to the levels.

As per my suggestion above re a 60th Anniversary of the Glorious Revolution, perhaps Bloody Bay could be reclaimed?

  3. Redside needs more international politics.  If we take Cuba as an analog, Arachnos is the government, UN recognized and all. So there should be some plans in the making for 2024, the 60th anniversary of the "Revolution" that ushered in the Rule of Lord Recluse.

Just a thought. A game can be "bigger" without needing a world ending event.

  4.  I'm running into a bit of circular logic with an escort.  So, I meet the escort, way point appears and you have to lead the escort to the glowie.  However my tester buddy meets escort, ignores him and runs off to click the glowie. Leaving a lost escort wandering and missing some clues.  The glowie should spawn off collecting the escort, so therefore it's active, but I have to set it for Mission Begins or it triggers circular logic failures.  How do I get it to only become active AFTER the escort reaches it?  I have swapped around trigger points but I keep getting a circular logic argument if I do it any way other than originally described. So it has to be when Mission Begins.  If I choose when Escort is completed I get circular logic, if I choose when escort is rescued I get circular logic.  Bah. Changing the glowie to a fade in/does not fade in object makes no difference.

Ok, a kludgy workaround is having a second glowie that is actually the vital one and IT activates when the Escort reaches the first glowie, regardless of whether the player has already clicked it or not. Best to have that first one stay ON the map then!  Grr.

So I posit we need a third option there. Object becomes active when and only when Escort reaches said object.

Now, if it does this already and I'm wasting everyone's time then I'll happily clam up provided you all tell me what the fix is 🙂

  5. Now, I may have, as we say in my country, lost the run of myself, but I've decided to submit all of the Dark Deeds in Galaxy City/Darker Deeds/Darkest Before Dawn story for Dev Choice. Why not?

Taking a sort of Supers procedural TV show as inspiration I ended up with three "seasons" comprising 15 episodes each. The story starts with Madame Maven, leader of The Meteors super group (Bullet Streak, Halox Von Horn, Super Charger and The Invincible Axios) calling in the player(s) for some help when Arachnos troops are seen on some covert mission in the ruins of Galaxy City.

It starts with Dark Deeds in Galaxy City, Parts One to Three (Arc IDs 26756, 26952 and 27233).

Continues with Darker Deeds, Parts One to Three (Arc IDs 28374, 28526 and 29252).

And concludes with Darkest Before Dawn, Parts One to Three (Arc IDs 29891, 30210 and 30560).

(And for those who prefer not to squint at text I've resized anything that could be resized from 1.0 to 1.2, it'll just involve a little more scrolling.)

Hope I'm not being too cheeky, but I've got two arcs I'm quite proud of I'd like to submit!

    Caper

    Arc ID: 302555

    Author: @Echo13

You set out to earn a cape - but there's an interruption at the Omega Team Memorial that needs to be dealt with first.

An alternate take on the blueside cape-earning mission, taking the same starting scenario but with a different enemy group and a different evil plan! A fairly short and sweet arc at 3 missions long with no huge maps.

      Reveal hidden contents

Features my remastered version of the Warriors, along with a number of custom AVs for them!
    screenshot_191006-03-46-31.thumb.jpg.18e0d50a79f9c108cde8921758c5f373.jpg

    Combat Evolved

    Arc ID: 31561

    Author: @Echo13

A series of strange disapperances from the Zig leads to the discovery of a deadly conspiracy, and the resurgence of an old foe in Paragon City.

A mission arc intended for Technology origin heroes, set after the events of the Dark Astoria arc. This one's more of a proper Task Force, with a full 5 missions, larger maps, and much tougher enemies - missions 3 and 4 had several almost-wipes on a team of Incarnates, so count yourself warned! It is assumed storywise that your character is capable with technology, but it's also plausible for them to be outsourcing that to contacts. Full of clues and NPC dialogue, so keep an eye out!

      Reveal hidden contents

Includes three custom groups; Zig Escapees, the UPA, and a remastered version of the Malta Group freshly upgraded with Battle Maiden's nanite technology. Also includes a whole bunch of original villains.

More for my AE playthrough list!

My latest entry (which still needs some tweaks):

    The Omnibus Project (ID: 31128)

After the fall of Section-41,* Manticore calls in his markers, putting you on the case involving "Omnibus," a mysterious new player on the Paragon scene.

    Alignment: Heroic

    Lvl: 25-30

    Custom enemies.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This arc ultimately reveals the reason for the missing 7-year "gap" between the live shutdown and the restoration on Homecoming.

*as detailed in "Friends & Lovers," and "Data Games."

That was a fine arc. You've headed off in a tangent that I have pondered and come up with an interesting solution. My own take is that there isn't any missing years! Sometimes you get lucky and the planet has some relative peace for a while. Now that would not have happened if the game had not been shut down but we are where we are. We still do all the missions that are "in the past' right up to the Magesterium iTrial, and Cole has been sitting in a supers prison for 7 years now 🙂 And lives move on, dulling our reactions so when the next big bad hits no one is ready. 😄

There is already a "canon-related" tag under the advanced search options, as well as a "non-canon" tag.  We have some tools to find the kind of stories we want to play, it's just that those stories are drowned out by the farms.

One extra tag in there that allows me to exclude farms would be a nice addition.

Not all of us would prefer this.  Keeping player-created missions in the holodeck gives arc creators more flexibility in the kind of stories they want to tell.  I've played more than a few arcs that have nothing to do with the CoH lore and have no place in the game world, but are just as much SFMA and deserve the same level of recognition as stories that do fit into canon.

I've no issues with this at all 😀. Agree 100 per cent. I could have been clearer. Perhaps an additional tag? (Too many already!) Like Canon Focussed Mission Architect? I'm not attempting to demean any non canon AE, I'm simply saying when we have, effectively, no new canon content in game and there are AE authors making such then it seems a win/win to mine the AE for it.

I've played a good few non canon AE stories and thoroughly enjoyed them. But again, I'm wading through countless farms to find them unfortunately.

I would LOVE to see more community content being made and agree with it being up voted into a real story mission.

Problem is I have never once seen in LFG broadcast general or local *AE Mish Team LF Players to do Community Made Content* or any variant of this since it's release.

Now as to avoid looking for *farm* only mission all 1 need to do is in the ae option select 0 to 4 stars and you will end up with tons of community made content.

Farms however are usual a 5 star and will imply it on the spot

Going to say what I said on a different thread.  I was chatting to a friend in team chat the other day while we were waiting for two people to zone in and she asked me how I was getting on with my AE thing. Cue me telling her a little bit until another team member quizzes me about "how many purps does it drop?" and "what's the best diff to max the XP/inf?" And when I said I literally have no idea because that's not what it's about, they said "why the hell are you bothering? Nobody plays for that stupid reason". (Comments made nicer than they actually were). Rather than get into an argument on the internet I just Lebowski'd it. Now, I'd like to say this is uncommon but it isn't. I see it a lot. Admittedly the farmers I see it from are a minority of you but they are damn loud and opinionated about it. I don't farm. I've tried it and it bored the hell out of me. And my only actual complaint about farming echoes an earlier comment, there's a truckload of fire farms out there, why do people think we need another one?

As for farms getting 5 stars? Maybe they're a great farm. Perhaps the rating system needs changing if we can't tag an AE as a farm or as SFMA. Stars only a farm can get, stars only story content can get?

Another little thing,  having had a think about my earlier mention of "real" content, all farm makers and farmers know that farms aren't "real" content, and that's fine because that's literally not the point of them. And those of us who prefer SFMA would prefer if it was "real" content. I've played a few that are better than plenty of things actually in the game.

I am tempted now to stick a call out on LFG using your exact phrase!

We do need more content, there's the makings of it in AE and it should be in the actual game.

I'd love for you to take a look at my arcs honestly. seems like a lot of fun! 🙂

Then mail me the arc ids if you have them published. I'm on Reunion so frankly I'm not available time wise to create a character on a different shard to come with anyone on a test run away from "home". Sorry.

That last bit is aimed at everyone as opposed to just you, Seed22!

We're all so reliant on spellcheckers these days that nobody knows how to spell anymore.  Yes, that includes me.  Getting a friend to test is hard.  There used to be quite a few active reviewers in the AE community who would helpfully point out all your typos and spelling errors, but nothing like that started up on HC.  Maybe it would be a good idea to start up an editor exchange, an "I'll edit yours if you edit mine" kinda deal.

I'll do that if someone wants to hit me up via @Darmian. But the usual caveats of my job apply: don't get annoyed if you're corrected 🙂

Ill be honest I dont see a great need for some kind of change. I mean sure it would be nice if AE could reward like normal content, but there is no real way to do that without a revamp to rewards that makes them dynamic and based on actual risk vs character, and thus rewards more to weaker characters tackling content that is actually risky for them.

Until then, AE does more than any other MMO ever did when it comes to giving us endless content. Being able to create custom story arcs to share our characters personal adventures with friends is a hell of a powerful tool for the role play faction which CoH has always had an atypically high population of among MMO.

As someone who isn't a member of the roleplay faction, and frankly I think I'm part of the majority when it comes to that, however atypical the numbers are on COH,  I still want new "real" content. Sharing personal adventures with friends IS a hell of a tool and I enjoy that. I spent a chunk of my life as a dedicated tabletop GM for RPGs and I get a kick out of it. But we would not even be having this discussion if we were getting actual in-world content. And we're not getting it. We know why. I'm not laying blame but it's still a fact.

But we're a volunteer community here, not just volunteer Devs/GMs, so I think there is an onus on us (ha!) to fill that gap ourselves. Us asking that the best (subjective obviously) of what we do find a way into the actual game isn't entirely unreasonable.

There's plenty there I could phrase better, I am thinking on the fly here to some extent. Bear with me.

“Dang, I’ve proofread this [item] too many times,” said no one, ever.

Exactly. I edit for a living and I STILL find typos that your eye just doesn't see first time round. So either leave some space before publishing and go over it again or get a friend in to test it and take notes.

  15. Right now, apart from the nice little Vig/Rogue arcs we got last year the only new content, as in story, is created by us. Now (beware, ego rising!), I've written a 45 episode/mission canon related series and I'm happy with it. If it was good enough to drop into the game ("good" = subjective, and a bit of work I know, maybe some tweaking since I had AE limitations the Devs/GMs don't have, and I'm not even talking about the different way in-world missions are coded.) then take it away! And I'm damn sure I'm not the only AE author who will say that.

I also treat AE SFMA as "real" missions, but quite a lot don't. And that's a big issue in a game that, through no fault of a hard working volunteer team of Devs and GMs, pretty much doesn't have new "real" content. I love this game. But it's going to need more than my nostalgia to keep me here another year. And sadly I don't think I'm alone in that.
