  1. I was thinking about this the other day, and I would love to see an IDF EAT.  Start off as a PPD or TEST Ranger while advancing through the main stories of Praetoria, and after a certain point you can swap into a Ranger (IDF or DUST) or Heavy Commander (with the rocket backpacks) with both sides being able to summon battle orbs or even TEST/DUST reinforcements.  After leaving Praetoria, they could maintain contact with their EAT contact and continue performing operations on Primal Earth, either setting up sabotage for the IDF or perhaps providing intel or support to bolster the Primals.

  2. Took my Peacebringer along for Field Agent Keith Nance's arc.  When fighting the double Peacebringer, they seem to swap into White Dwarf form around 50% health, but visually they don't do that.  The double uses Dwarf attacks but does not take the form of a Dwarf, resulting in some strange animations.  Most of the Human-Dwarf attacks resulting in the double moonwalking in different directions and movement consisted of a menacing hover.  These are temporary though, at some point the double swaps back to human attacks and uses normal animations again.

I assume the doppelganger Peacebringer would essentially use the same attacks and animations as a PPD Quantum but when fighting those guys they swap forms correctly, so no idea what was happening here.  Maybe something to do with using the female body?  PPD are all male so maybe female (and possibly huge) got overlooked for Kheldian doppelgangers?

  3. There's a gardener digging up a spot near Ms. Liberty in Atlas Park right now, looking to set up the Christmas decorations.  Seems he's not happy about his job.

Can't an Illusion Controller just make everybody believe the trees turned into pines for winter? I'm getting tired.

I would complete remove midnight grasp, looks like lame skill but stay at t9.

better give us 1 extreme or superior st.

Unless i'm misunderstanding, Midnight Grasp is already a 'Superior' ST attack, doing a lot of damage up front and suplementing it with a decent DoT afterward.  It does an enormous amount if damage already for an attack with such a quick animation.  It's already the strongest ST in the set at that.

  5. They were definitely in super packs.  I don't recall the Rogues/Vigilantes packs being available but Heroes/Villains were.  My old Dom and Troller definitely had their sets in their builds, the Psi proc in Roots was a big source of my damage on my old Troller.  If they were available with Alignment Merits, I would expect them to have cost around 8-20, I recall the PvP sets could be purchased with alignment merits for an ungodly amount of those, and you generally could only get one or two of those per day if you committed to it.

  6. I know there are changes to Dark Melee in the pipeline to aid with AoE, but even now my Dark/Bio is pretty beastly and not even 50 yet.  Dark has incredible ST damage and with Offensive Augment and Soul Drain most fodder enemies die in single hits from Life Drain or Twilight Grasp, or survive with enough health to die to the damage aura instead.  Even if they are slow cooldowns, Soul Drain and Dark Consumption still do solid damage and have the nice added benefits of boosting damage further or restoring endurance.  The change to Touch of Fear in the next patch should really help, less needing to hop around and position Shadow Maul.  Dark also sports a lot of -To Hit so you also get some extra survival capability on the nature of things being less likely to hit, especially if you're fighting 1v1 with an AV/GM.

  7. Tankers aren't normally my thing.  I never got one to 50 on live servers despite playing for a majority of the game's run.  I don't even remember having any in progress at shutdown.  Here on Homecoming though, I found my Tanker legs, or rather wings since her concept is a flaming angel/Valkyrie type deal, with a Fire/Dual Blades setup.  A lot more effective than I expected given the bad reputation Dual Blades seems to have, Knockdown IOs in Typhoon and Sweeping for crowd control with Fiery Embrace and Melt Armor really amplifying the damage which is one of the biggest problems I have playing Tankers and the IO building I put into it made it surprisingly sturdy, even managing to somewhat patch the Psi holes (though that's still the weak spot).

As of now, she's the only one.  I spend most of my time solo so running low damage ATs tends to not be my thing.  I'm trying a couple others though, maybe after the Energy Melee changes go into effect i'll try EM/Electric again, and I had a great idea for a Shield/Axe the other day i'm working on now (though I might have too many ideas going at once, such is CoH and altitis).

  8. Separate post for this one, since the picture is too large but the concept is too good to not share.

Garage Band, Thugs/Sonic Mastermind.  A punk rocker and her travelling band.  Together they solve crimes ala Josie and the Pussycats and then rock your socks off at the local bar.  The player character is the vocalist, the Enforcers are guitar and bass, the Bruiser is on drums, and the Punks are the stage crew.

  9. Here's a couple more of mine.

Guardian Armor, Shield/Axe Tanker.  A self-propelled suit of powered armor that seeks to defend innocents from evil.  Originally conceptualized as a dullahan type character, but the tech options are much more interesting.

Rail Baron, Titan/Fire Brute.  A stereotypical railroad baron type character, the first thing I thought of when I saw that one of the Titan Weapon variants was a railroad crossing sign.  Where the heck did he get it anyway?  There are no proper trains anywhere in the CoX universe.

Buttery Goodness, Water/Dark Corrupter.  Yes, he's pretty much a man made of butter.  Yes, the idea is as awful as it sounds.  Yes, I freaked someone out in Atlas Park by using the Propose emote in front of them.  (I don't remember who that person was, sorry if you see this  and had blocked out that particular memory).

Blazing Knuckle, Street/Fire Scrapper.  A man with cybernetic enhancements, allowing him to strike with devastating fiery punches and powerful kicking attacks.  Came about from the idea of combining Fiery Embrace with Crushing Uppercut for maximum damage.  Also takes some inspiration from Doomfist from Overwatch.

  10. Television always gets honorable mentions for being absurd and chock full of references.  The TV makes you force Dr. Aeon to write a paper and get it notarized by Viridian and Efficiency Expert Pither so that Arbiter Daos can set aside more time for Arachnos operatives to watch TV.  It's as silly as it sounds.  Then it sends you to destroy the Radio, the very same Radio you worked for in Port Oakes if you found it, though the souvenir/mission clear makes it possible that that whole thing was a TV-induced dream.

  11. Motivational speaking courtesy of the D.U.S.T. Rangers in First Ward.

This is counter-insurgency training 101, ladies! You couldn't capture a taco stand!

Bonus, Praetoria apparently has their own version of Dungeons and Dragons.  A line from a random survivor in the First Ward compound.

So you going to join our Warlocks and Wyrms game? We could use another player.

Another one to avoid a double post: PPD to Longbow in The Hollows about Longbow's uniform choices.

How do you feel about wearing colors that are strangely similar to that of a target? You don't really blend, you know that, right?

Another one from The Hollows, Skull to his girlfriend, sounds like relationship issues.

We're just star-crossed loves and the fact that your sister stole my car makes it pretty hard for me to keep seeing you.

  12. My DP/Electric is getting respeced so I can keep both Force of Thunder and Dynamo (which I initially skipped Lightning Field for not being useful).  It worked out to getting Weave and my APP's a little later than I had hoped though.

Careful placing procs in powers which don't cause aggro (i.e. don't notify the foe.) Such as Smoke.  You may end up "notifying the mob".

Also some procs causes the power's intended effect to not immediately work.  For instance damage procs in Fearsome Stare will cause the feared enemies to retaliate immediately instead of cowering until they get hit.  They'll cower after, but if you use it as an opener you might end up taking the alpha and on a squishy support role that's not always ideal.

  14. It drops back to 90%.  Any +Res effects over the cap are basically insurance against anything that applies -Res,

EDIT: Guess i'm wrong, since the math doesn't seem to check out from testing.  Still more resistance does help you counteract resistance debuffs, so it doesn't hurt to have a little extra.  Just probably don't prioritize it.

  15. Could be a hiccup with plot progression.  After completing his story arc Lt. Harris is supposed to die or disappear.  Possible that Ouro isn't putting him back where he belongs if you already did his arc.  A similar bug happens in Praetoria where if you run Calvin Scott's story arc before Crow, Crow dies and locks you out of the first two chapters of Neutropolis' Crusader arcs.

  16. Nemesis Staff (Origin Bonus) from P2W vendor.  Description reads "The Nemesis is particularly effective when wielded by Technology, Science or Natural origin individuals."  I assume it's supposed to be "The Nemesis Staff is particularly effective..."

The description for Crushers from the Destroyers group in Praetoria mentions they are high on "Fixodine" when every other source I can find calls it "Fixadine" including the old wiki which spells it "Fixadine" for all of the given descriptions of the Destroyers.  Did these guys get the knockoff version?  Their Hombre brothers appear to be on the same off-brand as well.  Shredders too.

    Alternately, she could help you.

If her playing really helped you then maybe that would increase interest initially and then go from there.

Using this logic, perhaps if she were a Corrupter instead would be beneficial.  Corrupters still deal damage, not quite as much as a Blaster mind you, but she would also have the Support powerset to help keep you alive, make you both stronger, and make foes easier to defeat.  It might be a bit more difficult juggling support powers instead of full-on damage focus, but the two of you would still make for a great team like this and if she enjoys supporting you it would certainly heighten her interest and possibly keep her playing.

  18. It would be nice if a bunch of the underutilized zones just got repeatable mission contacts for the zone just to give you something to do while you're there if you want.  Set them up like Borea or Meg Manson; a "defeat 30 of x group" in the zone for one option while the other sends you to a door for something like rescuing kipnapping victims, disabling hideouts by destroying supplies, or taking down some big shot who set up shop in the zone.  I mean, it wouldn't be much and would probably be insignificant in the grand scheme of things but some zones like Boomtown, Eden and Terra Volta really need something to do if you want to hang out there for some reason.

I do think there were plans to overhaul some of the zones at some point.  Boomtown did get some construction near the entrance and the Council Base that popped up with the post-Praetoria War Walkers found only there (not counting Provost Marchand's missions).  Still though, a lot of the old hazard zones got largely ignored and serve no purpose then and now.

How do you even play an Illusion/Traps controller? I feel so ineffectual when I tried it.

I would assume using Group Invisibility or Superior Invisibility would easily let you waltz into an enemy group and set your mines off right on their faces while they're busy dealing with the Army and Terror.  G. Invis would also mask your Force Field Generator so they don't aggro that too.  Positioning is important with Traps, and having access to one of the best non-Hide Stealth powers in the game helps a lot with that.  The real issue with Traps these days is that it's a set that calls for set up time which is something you won't get in the fast kills pace of the game these days on teams.  You'd be lucky to get your Poison Trap off before the crowd is dead and it will be two spawns before it's ready to go again.

  20. Damn this post is reeeaaalll old.  But if I could add some opinion.  Don't sleep on DB/Fire.  Sure it gives you some bad defenses and redraws mess with your attack chains (if you leave them on) but the offensive bonuses are well worth it, especially for a Brute with high Fury.  While i'm speaking more from Tanker experience, Firey Embrace will provide a massive damage increase and Burn is always handy as an extra PBAoE for cutting down crowds.  Things won't kill you if you kill them first, and when you're swinging your swords as a hot knife through buttery enemies they won't last long enough to do any significant damage.

Add some KB procs to your AoE powers too.  Avalance in Typhoon's Edge and Overwhelming Force in Sweeping Strike will also make a lot of crowds unable to fight back since they'll be on their asses even if you mess up the Sweep combo.  Also the Ragnarok KD proc in the Targeted AoE of your choosing from your APP/PPP if you so choose.
