  1. I have a few of these on Everlasting. I haven't played them much because I worried about getting generic'ed for being too close to a trademarked name. Rambo Brite Lisa Frankenfurter Stevie Wonderwoman I thought about Polter-Christ as a Gravity Dominator, but same worries. Bottomless Salad isn't a pun but I did name an Energy/Plant Blaster this.
  2. There are a few additional considerations I think we should take into account with this class. - Mezz Protection Mezz Protection is the distinguisher that elevates melee ATs into soloists. If you are mezzed, you can do nothing, not even eat a inspiration (other than an anti mezz). - Resist Debuff Affects the Whole Team I'm assuming I'm understanding their offensive ability correctly in that the ability is a -Resist similar to Sonic Blast. If so, that means the Sentinel is boosting the damage output of any team member who strikes the same target. It is true that actual Sonic Blast is better at this. But Sonic Blast is probably the most unbalanced blast set (IMO) and not a great frame of reference. The Sentinel debuff is as good as an actual power like Sonic Siphon from Sonic Resonance. - Easy Soft Capping This probably is self evident, but its hard to stress how much access to base defense of any kind boosts survivability. A Blaster needs millions of influence to catch up, and the same in etment in a Sentinel would leave it lightyears more survivable
  3. This combo was specifically never allowed on live because of how overpowered it would be. Unkillable pets, mezz protection,.reliable Containment, and strong base defense against all but Psi. Compared to the old AV killer combos, Ill/Rad and Ill/Cold, its heads and tails stronger, at least for this specific role.
  4. After some experimenting on the market, I've made some revisions to the plan. This build only provides +130 Recharge total. The Ranged defense is 48%, exceeding the softcap. However, since this is a work in progress while I build the funds necessary, I imagine it will be a long time before I complete certain sets. So, being a little over the top works for now. I'm not sure how I really feel about devoting any slots at all to Static Field, even if doing so provided some -RunSpeed and +3.13 Defense. I'd rather those points go elsewhere. Maybe I'll move them for a more expensive build. I threw Fury of the Gladiator: Chance for -Res into Psychic Scream purely because I actually own it already due to a random drop. It would otherwise have been low priority. Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! 5. I would personally not skip.the AoE immobility on any Dom or Controller, but particularly on a set with an added secondary effect (Ice, Earth, Elec). If you are worried about the cages cancelling -kd remember that that effect wears off independent of the immobility duration. So you can root stuff and it will start to.fall over after x seconds while not yet being able to move. Slow movement caps at a value too low to replace immob imo. Earth is probably the best control set for exemplaring for TFs like Positron. -Defense is a godsend for speeding up underslotted teammates.
  6. Mass Hypnosis is a non-notify power that sees most use solo. Enemies won't be alerted if you them with it. Great for sleeping a crowd long enough to Confuse them all. It's a great set mule even if you rarely use it. I'm on a phone where I cant pull up mids but how much do you really need Grabt Invis and Invis, and for what reason? I don't think LotG +recharge stacks. If you're trying to be Invisible, try Super Speed with Celerity: Stealth. Unless Fly is for concept I'd drop it. Other than aesthetics it's easily replaced by a jet pack, and you have Hover anyway.
  7. It's been ages since I built a character in Mids/Pines. How is this looking at a first glance? Goals are: - Permadom - Aid Self (I find this critical to moving through missions quickly) - Soft cap Ranged defense I went with Agility Core Paragon (+45% End Mod, +33% Recharge, +20% Defense) which seems a natural fit for this build. The only IO I specifically did not include is the +3% Defense PVP one, because I assumed I can't afford it. If I'm wrong in this assumption, moving the dummy slots from Boxing would open up 5 additional slots for me and drastically increase the power of this build. I never did get that IO on live. It is equally hard to get on the new servers? Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! 8. I feel like Gravity Blast is well within reach with minimal design work needed. I was disappointed no official Gravity Blast set ever showed up in game. Some of the basic powers are there: Lift/Levitate Propel Mass Levitate (could be made ranged) Assuming some variety of Aim is in there, that leaves just a couple of powers to design. Minor variations from Energy Blast and maybe Sonic Blast would help fill the gaps.
  9. Considering when this game was made (late 90s/early 2000s) it's not surprising each power/spell is a C object. That's how a lot of games in that period implemented spells. See Neverwinter Nights for an example that is accessible to the public (altho that is a bit different in that each power is a C method, not an object).
  10. A confused enemy works closely to the same way as a player from another party delivering damage. XP is divied up based on the amount of damage caused by players in each party. You don't get XP for damage done by other parties. Drops work the same way. You can get drops only if you deliver some of the damage.
  11. Something worth noting is that the early game is dominated by lots of log recharge powers that function mostly as "emergency" reservoirs. As the game progresses, however, these transition more and more into the role of readily available powers. The Control and Buff sets are good examples of this. Once you start adding in IOs with global +Recharge bonuses you can build characters that are truly super powerful. It is this part of the game that isn't apparent to new players and its also the part that often hooks long-timers, since no other MMO in existence (that I have know of) provides a battle experience like it.
  12. I've always praised this game for its "chaos factor." I did not like this game at first. I found the low level soloing experience to be painful. Then I discovered radio/pickup teams. Totally changed my perspective. Play on some teams with a mixed group of heroes. The battles get crazy and the powerset choices matter. That's the best I can describe it. You shouldn't look at powerset choices as limitations. The goal is to find combinations and make them work. Some are more powerful than others, of course. But many are still viable. I'm playing Earth/Nature and a Ice/Kinetics Controllers right now. Totally different gameplay experiences. Every time I think one of them is "better" I encounter a situation where one or the other would have been able to respond to the battle in a different way.
  13. I was wondering what the developer's positions are on buffing some of the older powersets. They've done a great job introducing some new ATs and withpowerset proliferation. Have they commented on buffing existing sets? There are a few that stand out to me right away. Most don't need huge changes, just slight tweaks to make them competitive. I'm mainly thinking of Force Field and some of the low tier Control sets. Ice, Mind and Gravity Control all could use a look IMO. FWIW I'm actually a bit of a programmer and if the game's source code is available somewhere I'd love to dig into it.
  14. The Arctic Air power from the Ice Control set. I am 41 years old. I've been gaming since the 1980s. No game has ever given a me a power like Arctic Air. Ice Control, for good reason, is not considered a top tier Control set. At best, its serviceable. It has low damage, no ranged hard mezzes other than a trash AoE sleep power, and a mediocre pet. But it does have Arctic Air. Every crazy, non-sensical,what were the developers even thinking moment of Arctic Air. For those not familiar. Arctic Air is a PBAoE toggle that has a 30% chance to Confuse and 50% chance to cause Fear (the old kind that sends enemies running--but it's also a Slow, so they run slooooowly). Both mezzes are short in duration, and AoE itself isn't that large. The net result is a squishy character with almost no defense trying to survive at close range with heaps of mobs. Just typing about it doesn't translate the experience completely. For a supposedly "passive," power you have to think every moment about your positioning. I've played Ice Control to 50 more than any other set. I think I had 4 lvl 50 Ice Control characters on Virtue (Controllers: Ice/Thermal, Ice/Rad Dominators: Ice/Fire, Ice/Energy). And now I'm playing Ice/Kinetics on the new servers. I've seriously had dreams about this power for years. I even designed a Torchlight 2 mod (the Theolentist class if anyone is inclined to look for it) that was similar. Turning that power back on for the first time in 7 years gave me chills. Pun intended.
  15. The pet recharge nerf, which totally hosed Storm Summoning. Prior to this nerf, pets benefited from the caster's global Recharge. Most pets were fine, but Lightning Storm was never the same after it lost its turbo charged lightning bolts.
  16. Hi everyone. Forever ago on Virtue my main/forum name was Oedipus Tex.
