  1. I'm immediately breaking your "rules", sorry!! This is not a post showing off my teleport room.... Instead, I just have to say - that's a good looking base ya got there! Are you willing to share the code so I can visit? Or, is it in the directory? I must see it live 🙂

    1. As an example, say someone either misses or doesn't quite understand that, rather than adding info directly to the wiki, that they should submit it for inclusion in the Google doc. Is there a plan in place to reach out to folks that add their info only to the wiki, so that they can get their base entered properly into the Google doc? That might be more of a cross the bridge when you get to it scenario, but it's not hard to imagine that at some point down the road there will be someone who just doesn't quite understand that the info needs to go through the Google doc, and it would seem like reaching out to them would help minimize the number of legit wiki edits that get overwritten with new updates.

We understand that there are those that are unwilling or untrusting of working through Google, so we didn't make that the only way to add to the directory. But we also didn't want to advertise an "Enter Your Base Info Here" section on the wiki that encourages bypassing the directory either. The guidance we've placed on the wiki for these instances is to contact Dacy or I to have this information updated.
And then, despite that, we are also continuing to monitor Michiyo's Discord for anyone out there that treats the base pages like anyone would probably assume a wiki page can be treated and does update it directly. Should that happen we would enter their information into the directory and it would feed back into the wiki on the next bulk update.

    2. Given that info edited/removed from a wiki page is always visible a few clicks away via the revision history, if a base owner at some point decides to remove their base code from the listing for whatever reason, it might be worth reminding them that the code can still be seen on the wiki for someone willing to look through the revision history.

Great note! We will definitely keep that in mind to inform anyone requesting a de-listing of their base from the directory that they should probably change their passcode from whatever had previously been listed for this reason. I appreciate you mentioning this!

Having reviewed the edit history on https://homecoming.wiki/w/index.php?title=Excelsior_Base_List&action=history I can see little reason to believe there's been a bulk upload of any kind, although I could be wrong.

I believe the bulk upload occurred in Dec. 2020. Looks like GM Kal brought them in.

Looking through their contributions, it seems they created all of the shard base lists that month.

And, I know the Google Docs were implemented on June 18th, 2019.

Just FWIW. This is where the Google Doc format and bulk listings were brought into the wiki.

In terms of duplication of effort, it is possible to script a tool to translate a Google doc into a wiki table, if that route is of interest.

I think this is the way forward.

I wholeheartedly believe that two separate base directories is a waste of effort, space and resources. And I also completely agree that there is a solution that doesn't abandon one of these directories in favor of the other.

We have a tentative plan in place that I feel really good about and would like to see what you all think of it. It hinges on us being able to automate some form of feed from our directory into the wiki; which thanks to AboveTheChemist's help earlier we feel hopeful that we can accomplish.

    The Plan:

We create a wiki page with some very clear prominent disclaimers that the information is fed from an outside source (our directory) and that direct wiki edits to this page are endanger of being overwritten by the next update that we push.
Now, as a reminder, we have already compared the two lists and have added any bases that previously only existed on the wiki to our Google directory.
We then create a wiki page and process for new base entries to be added into the wiki. We are now monitoring all wiki changes via Michiyo's discord, so when we see an addition is made we will capture that data in our directory and then push another update that will feed into the Wiki Base Data page.

How does everyone feel about that? Please share your thoughts and concerns.

I also want to be clear that our directory is new. It is not the old yellow pages directory that anyone could tamper with. If you have not yet seen it, by all means, please give us a visit 🙂 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14DqavAx6ov60d92rhvwy2sNEW_909MCHp421GM4q-Yk/edit#gid=0

  5. This is wonderful on all counts! Thank you!

I am sure there is some fat that we can trim for the wiki variation. The Description Tags come to mind. Those are intended to be searchable buzz words if someone is looking for Architecture or Snowy landscapes.

But this really helps visualize the plan and the available space, so thank you again. I would be happy for any assistance you'd be willing to provide - and take all the time you need. This is helpful but not urgent.

We have compared our two base lists and have already added the data from the wiki to our docs - we also do not want to inadvertently delete someone's submission. We are now monitoring Wiki Changes from Michiyo's Discord for any new base submissions in the interim.

  6. I would like to apologize. That is not how I like to conduct myself and I am embarrassed for the way I acted and for how frustrated this whole thing made me.

I am sorry. No one deserves that.

I am passionate about bases, and I can tell you all are passionate about the integrity of this wiki. Linking to a Google Doc is not the solution and I can appreciate that. My rationale for using a Google Doc was that it seems to be what the majority of base builders have clung to as their preferred method of upload. We have added another 38 bases since last night bringing our total to 618 bases.
But I also clearly see that there is a small but dedicated user base that only prefer uploading to the wiki and I do not wish to alienate anyone.

I am as-of-yet unsure how to best reflect our Google Doc data into the wiki, but is is now clear to me that we need to better monitor base wiki uploads so that the community as a whole can appreciate what is being uploaded here.

@thunderforce Again, I apologize. I don't need or want drama in my life and I can't imagine you do either. I will endeavor to act more reasonably.

  7. Congrats! A valiant armchair victory. You have bravely corrected us. We tremble at your feet.

Now, can we get back to the discussion portion of this discussion? I am happy to preserve your outdated base information if we must. Is linking to a Google doc a nonstarter? Or is there a chance of actually making progress here?

  8. The total amount of bases listed on the " _unofficial_ HC wiki" is 250. The total amount of bases listed on our directory is 580.

There are literal hundreds of bases that are on both versions. In the
" _unofficial_ HC wiki" I have personal bases I made that I did not submit to the wiki. I submitted them on the Google Doc. CR Dacy has bases on the wiki that she did not input there. Mitsiyan has bases on the wiki he did not input. I could absolutely go on, but that seems unnecessary.
That speaks to me that there was an upload from the Google Doc to the wiki.

But my concern is for the community, It is not helpful for anyone to have two diverse locations to input bases. I am seeking to condense them into one clear source. And the one that I am maintaining at the moment, is The Community Base Directory google doc.

https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Special:Contributions/The_Easter_Bunny removed every base list to redirect stuff to a Google spreadsheet. I think this is obviously bad (and reverted it immediately) but (especially since they are a CR) I fear there may be some pushback.

Hello Thunderforce. Thank you so much for taking the time to guide me here. And apologies to all for the scare of the base list removals today.

CR Dacy and I have been wondering who has more or less taken the responsibility of maintaining the base lists on the wiki? They are not accurate. And unfortunately grow more inaccurate each day. The information listed on the HC Wiki was/is fed from a separate Google Doc that has become pretty severely corrupted and compromised by player misuse. Player bases have been deleted and base codes and owners have been removed or changed.

Instead of regurgitating stale information from a corrupted and outdated source our hope was to link directly to a Google Doc where the base information is refreshed and updated daily, often multiple times. We've received 60+ updates/new entries since Tuesday.

The goal with this directory is a single comprehensive list (we've compiled bases from numerous directories and posts) as well as accuracy. To that end, the directory cannot just be edited by anyone. That was a source for data corruption in the last directories. Submissions / updates can be submitted via a Google Form which then is uploaded to a master source. The main directory will be a reflection of this protected data.

Now, again, posting directly to that would be ideal for us, because we only have to update the doc and then the wiki, which refers back to it, will always be current. However, I intend to discuss, so I would like to know how would prefer this data stays maintained?

  10. Hello!

Phew! It has taken me longer than it should have to locate this discussion thread. CR Dacy (@Dacy) and I have been trying to identify who we can partner with on the HC wiki to make updates to the Supergroup Base lists on there.

The information on the wiki pulls from a Google Doc that has been pretty severely corrupted and compromised by misuse. We would like to instead link directly to this new directory:

    The Community Base Directory:  http://tinyurl.com/mr4dvhyn

How best might we accomplish this?

  11. Apologies for the "spam" 😞

We have numerous posts dedicated to the same general theme of base sharing / touring.

So, on that note, very much wanted to share the new link for what we are hoping will be the definitive base passcode directory:

  13. Nope! I think you covered it pretty well without me, Dacy. ☺️

Other than "extensive" is not the word I would have used to describe the wiki lists. Those are just copies from the original Google Doc directories... which as you've already explained left a lot to be desired. Having combed through that list, two other personal directories that were shared with me, the Basecode Passes thread, the Contest threads and the Show Off thread I can now say none of these were extensive.

And I agree, it would be wonderful to link this directory to the wiki - please send them my way if you know who I can chat with about that!

  14. CR Dacy and I are very excited to announce the new Community Base Directory ( and Guestbook!)
(Now also linked here at the top of the Base Building Guide as well)

With a very special special THANK YOU to @Matsiyan for hoping to make our vision a reality ❤️

The directory is a list of Homecoming Base Passcodes created by our incredible community here. It's intended as an update from the CoH Base Passcodes and Everlasting Yellow Pages directories created by @Cap'n Capitalism back in 2019 (Thank you again for that!)

This new version of the directory was created to allow for enhanced search options when trying to locate a base. It also cannot be tampered with, intentionally or accidentally, by others trying to input their base information.

We'd REALLY like to see a comprehensive, inclusive directory, and there's a bit of a possibility that this might at some point be accessible from the game, and it most certainly has already been shown to be able to transfer to a pop menu setup.

We have different descriptive tags to help people find your base
, and setting what things define your base definitely needs your input, so please help us out so people can find your base if they'd like to visit it, or just so it's listed as something you've done.

There is also a guest book for people to write down comments about your base
; have you ever wanted to know if someone visited and what they thought?? This is a fantastic upgrade, and we took in a lot of information and ideas to create it. We want and need to hear if you have any questions about it or especially if you have a problem of any sort

In order to publish a base entry or update you will create and then submit a Google Form that will feed all the necessary info into the directory. I think it's a pretty neat piece of internet wizardry myself...

We strongly encourage you to take a look and to submit updates ❤️❤️❤️ Share with everyone all the amazing work you've done!

    Comments also welcome! Thank you!
    - CR Dacy, CR EB (and BIG shoutout to @Matsiyan)

  16. Due to the severe storms that have been pounding the country and cutting off power to people for significant stretches of time, we decided to extend the deadline for the Challenge: The Great Outdoors contest by 2 days. The new deadline is TUESDAY, JANUARY 23 at 9 PM EST. That's more than another week to work up your very own Nature view/retreat/refuge/park, what have you. Plenty of time! And we encourage even you new people to give it a try, because you never know what you're gong to be really good at until you give it a try.
