  1. I've been really enjoying playing a dark melee brute with the energy aura defense. The combination of to hit debuffs and defenses/resistances seem to make me very survivable which is nice. I have hit level 23, but I'm not sure what I should be picking for this character build to make them effective. I have noticed that I'm running into endurance issues if I get into extended fights but my damage output has been surprisingly good. I'm only doing +1 level/1 player content as of right now. I could use some build suggestions, and IO set recommendations for when I get to 50. Currently I only have Boxing/Tough/Weave from ancillary pools.
  2. If you weren't going to do it I was! 😄
  3. I really appreciate the discussion going on here. It's really helped me learn more about how these things are being viewed and even with disagreements everyone's been civil about it and that's fantastic. I only have a single level 50 since starting homecoming, and that one is a farm-designed character. However, I never got past doing a few of the IO sets because as Gerswin above said, I don't have a PHD in power damage and figuring out the whole proc thing feels really obtuse and difficult to get into as someone who didn't get into the incarnate or other endgame systems when CoX was live. The Cost of Entry is kinda high... Heck, I went looking after I posted this and saw a comment about getting archetype origin enhancements and was surprised they existed! I don't even know where one can get merits at a decent enough clip that I could get a full set of them for my farmer in under a week (or more) of gameplay. I love CoX. Honestly I think it's one of the best MMO's ever, and definitely the BEST superhero game I've ever played. I appreciate being able to talk with you all about it. Please keep on going if you have anything more to add, or to answer what I've said here. 🙂
  4. This has turned out to be a very interesting discussion! I didn't think about it as potentially emergent gameplay, more that it might have been some developer's intent back in the day. It does kinda show how far things have gone, to be fair. Maybe now that the endgame ecology has grown this way, the new team can look at it and maybe find something interesting they can do with it? From what I'm hearing is that enhancement set bonuses are the fine-tuning for an already good build? I've only seen a few of the proc enhancements so I guess I'm still pretty novice when it comes to end game content. I keep playing new characters almost every week! @_@ You'd think since I started playing on like, issue 4, that I'd know these things.
  5. I've been noticing a consistent discussion being made that the only way you're able to, uh, successfully deal damage in the late game is by utilizing procs. These rely on specific IO enhancement sets which sell for millions if you aren't the fortunate sort to get a drop. Even so, I've seen players talking about spending BILLIONS of Inf so they can get their build completed. I just... question this from a fundamental point of view. If there's only one 'real' way to reach end game performance, then it doesn't really feel all that fun to do. I'll make like dozens of characters and level them, but the whole proc set farming/buying/etc. stuff just doesn't feel like it should be the way end game progression should be. I'm sure this has been discussed before and I'll likely get roasted by someone for my opinion on this but I do not like the reliance on procs to be how you 'win' the endgame. Any discussion points I'm missing?
  6. Hello Homecoming! I'm glad to see how popular the servers have gotten since NCSoft has done the right thing! I have had some thoughts percolating in the back of my head since I was playing the original CoH, and thought I'd like to put them together into one post and maybe even see something get into my favorite game. So, to start this off... Y'all ever see a Kinetics-boosted character start just... speedwalking? It made me think of this. (Picture attached.) So what I was thinking was that we could totally do this as a stance for walking, sure, but why not also have it as an available Sprint stance like Blitz and parkour? It would look pretty neat, and it's not like that kind of animation doesn't happen in the game. You could even use the 'runes' aura animation and replace the runes with Kanji for 'step' or something while you're using it. It would also be a good alternative for the Sultry walk animation, call it Swagger or something. (If I had access to the tools used to play with CoH animations you bet your bacon I'd have something mocked up by now) Prospective Idea number two! We have a bunch of interesting Mastermind Primaries, but why not have... Clones? The major appeal of the powerset would be to have the minions be visual duplicates of the character, but with some kind of visual difference like an aura effect or whatnot. IF it was possible, I think it would be cool for the minions to have a randomly selected costume from one of your costume slots. We could call the powerset 'Parallel Selves' or something like that. The attack powers would be like, predominantly a ranged smashing attack, but it's animated like a very temporary copy of you appears next to the target and punches them or something. The more powerful attacks would be you appearing and doing something more dangerous and perhaps some status effects, maybe even have the 'crowd summon' one be calling up a bunch of you strapped with bombs to do an AoE kamikaze attack like the embalmed zombies do. Minions: Up to three 'you' with minimal powers. Predominantly Melee focused with maybe the 'upgrade' power granting them a ranged or AoE attack option. Lieutenants: Up to two 'you' with support focused powers or equipment and some better attacks. Your Boss: Would be as single you, but with powers you don't have, like maybe instead of being tanky they're more crowd-control focused. I find it difficult to properly construct how it would work beyond this, but I think this has merit. It would at least be something new for MM's since they don't have a lot of primaries. That's all I have for now!
  7. I ended up just re-downloading the game and it worked then, but I am glad to see that I didn't need to go that far! 🙂
  8. I haven't had any problems with the new HC launcher since I installed it a few days ago. Game runs, everything's awesome, yay. So there was just a maintenance cycle and when I go to log back in, it's telling me to update my version of the game. I cannot seem to figure out how to do that. The launcher's settings have 'automatically update' turned on, so I'm not sure what's going on here.
