  1. Does hasten shut off when switched into squid / dwarf forms? The character planner toggles hasten off whenever dwarf form is toggled on for a warshade build I'm contemplating. That makes me wonder if there's been a change I don't know about. Thank you in advance!
  2. Human only warshades seem to have five key limitations, as follows: 1. Damage falls behind multiple other ATs 2. Debuffs can noticeably and even substantially limit effectiveness (especially recovery debuffs and defense cascade failure) 3. Mezzes take micro to manage and/or clarion as the destiny incarnate pick 4. Keeping mobs away from pets means taking the presence pool 5. If there are no corpses around for a while then sustain tends to be more difficult (especially after eclipse drops) Most of these are situational and so not necessarily a big limitation on how much we can enjoy playing a warshade (and they are awesome fun, despite their limitations). Still, I was wondering if a bi-form warshade (dwarf / human) could help for managing these limitations. With that in mind I put together a build for which the key points to mention are as follows: Pros: Ageless radial destiny incarnate helps for endurance management and noticeably boosts debuff resistance for all team members Dwarf form has a good damage multiplier; single target melee damage will be quite good Dwarf form offers a free "break free" whenever mezzed in human form Dwarf form offers good resistances and a heal that recharges quickly for when defeated mobs are not present Dwarf form has a taunt power, which helps for keeping pets alive Nuke (Quasar) is available about every 40 seconds, with up to 2(!) mires to boost its damage Burnout is available for when eclipse misfires Unleash potential and vengeance offer occasional and substantial boosts to defense totals; they can sometimes be active together, pushing defenses to softcap 12 points of knockback protection from IOs while in human form means less occasions in which knockback makes eclipse or sunless mire miss all targets A dwarf / human form warshade will probably be easier to play than all human when exemp'd down to lower levels because of built-in mez protection and better sans-eclipse resists Cons: Less defense than some all human builds Considerably less mez potential than all human builds Changing forms takes some micro and slightly reduces DPS The dwarf form MTX doesn't appeal to everybody Feedback is welcome and appreciated! The build described above ... 3. Your wife probably wants a chance to shine a bit. If you neuter every spawn before it has a chance to touch her blaster, or she never gets aggro, then she'll probably get bored. Problem solve together and you'll probably have more fun. An AT that facilitates moving at a good pace is probably helpful, to, unless she's somebody who really loves to go slow and look around. A scrapper or stalker doesn't have punchvoke, but hits quite well. The two of you can move at a good pace through missions, but you'll also have some level of challenge, from time to time. She clearly likes to have a theme going, so pick a stylish-but-effective theme for yourself as well (SJ / invul scrapper, staff / EA stalker, or whatever). You can run at x4 or higher once she gets a better handle on controlling her character, just to give her something to do other than stand still and press buttons until things fall over.
  4. Hopestar: Thank you for your feedback! I didn't notice that Kheldian Grace also gives a +10% recharge bonus. I'm glad you pointed that out. And, your suggestions for gravitic emanation are helpful and appreciated. Also, I'm putting a +endurance proc into stygian circle to boost endurance recovery, which is likely to be a key friction point for the build. I'm tentatively switching to assault, instead of tactics, and I'll see how that plays out in-game. The key benefits from having tactics and being over-accurate are threefold: mitigating the effects of blindness, mitigating the effects of to hit debuffs, and supporting teammates who may have accuracy issues. Assault does have its benefits as well, though, and it's also a worthy pick. It seems helpful to vary what shields get run according to the mobs being fought. For example, in smash / lethal heavy fights, keep gravity shield running and de-toggle penumbral and twilight shields. And so on, just in case eclipse doesn't get as many targets as would be desired every so often. That's hard to convey through a character planner build, though, and so I get why feedback is being offered for that. 5. SableShrike's Coffin Queen build is a thoughtfully put together and very useful template for an effective human warshade. And, there seem to be quite a few reasonable variations possible within that general framework for a build. Below is (potentially, possibly) one variation that would hopefully hold up well in-game. Feedback is welcomed. Notes on the build: - A force feedback in Dark Detonation should hopefully bring recharge a bit closer to perma hasten. - This build has noticeably lower melee defense by default, but with the ability to use vengeance should a teammate fall. Also, it takes 2 stacks of eclipse to max resistances to smash / lethal / nrg / neg nrg / fire / cold, and 4 stacks of eclipse to max toxic and psionic resist. - This build has decent -recharge debuff protection (50%). 6. Nemu: Thank you for the build. It's quite interesting. I'm still trying to understand it and to think about how to map over to builds I more typically play. It looks quite effective, overall, and quite a bit sturdier than most dom builds tend to be.
  7. It's been challenging to settle on a dominator. But, I've tried several out and this is probably the one I'll end up liking the best and wanting to take the time and energy to fully build out. The build uses a build dark / savage / ice build posted by Frosticus as a kind of template, with adaptations to replace savage assault with earth assault. I like that it has multiple kinds of control for ST and AOE, as that means less "kryptonite" mobs. Plus, as noted by Frosticus, all the -to hit in the primary will help to patch defense limitations in the build. How well is it likely to work in-game? Is there anything key that I'm missing? Are there tweaks to make that could make a noteworthy difference to how well the build functions? Any feedback provided would be appreciated. PS: I edited the post this morning to add in defense set IOs that boost resists, which were *very* low in the original build posted earlier, as well as made a handful of other tweaks to what was here earlier. 8. +1 A lot of dominators and controllers lead with AOE immobilizes. Those casting them probably feel like they're doing something helpful. But, generally they're just slowing the team down. I've started to compliment teammates, mentioning in team chat that it's refreshing to see somebody help the tank do their job better and helping their teammates' AOEs be much more effective by being so patient about applying their AOE immobilize. It seems better than filling team chat with criticism, at the end of the day, and perhaps doing that once in a while makes a small difference in how some players play their dominators / controllers. I'll compliment other good things teammates do sometimes, as well, so it hopefully blends in a bit with other things being mentioned in chat.

  10. I've had some time to experiment, even if only a little, and to ponder the last two feedback posts. Thank you for taking the time. The overkill on layering in resists / defense and for to hit bonuses is, perhaps more than anything, a reflection of my inexperience at evaluating all aspects of how a build is likely to function in endgame. It's only now, ironically, and not when the game was live, that I have plenty of inf to make endgame builds and try to play them to their potential. Knowing that I'm inexperienced I'd rather come up short on damage than fail at a tanker's main jobs, which are to take aggro and live, set the tempo, and work at keeping teammates (at least somewhat) safer when things get a bit dicey. That said, I've been coming around to believing that musculature radial is a better alpha slot choice than what I had been considering. Barrier core is an appealing destiny incarnate pick. And, I might pick assault radial for the hybrid slot. Where I'm still a bit unsure is tactics. The Gaussian build up proc IO seems to trigger automatically more than the once a minute listed when I'm on teams; I had read somewhere that the Gaussian build up proc triggers off both teammates and self when it's in tactics, and so that was what I was hoping to see. If that's true then an automated build up that triggers 2 or 3 times per minute and that doesn't seem to require casting or animation time is likely to offer a bigger damage boost than focus chi. My experimentation was limited and the measurements were not exact^, as a key caveat, and that's a motivation for mentioning that here; more exhaustive tests may have already been done and I just haven't heard of them yet. ^ Speed ITFs aren't particularly quiet and contemplative events. But, I did what I could to follow how frequently I was seeing the build up proc go off.
  11. First, my thanks to Sovera, as the revised build should function noticeably better. I got the character planner update and hopefully it worked. Some commentary about the revised build and the build itself follow below. Durability Most resists start at a high base and hit the 90% cap with a single proc from will of the tanker and the cardiac core alpha slotted; only toxic and energy resists won't be capped with a single will of the tanker proc and the cardiac core alpha. Toxic resist will be 63.3% with a single will of the tanker proc and the cardiac core alpha. Energy resist will be 70.8% with a single proc from will of the tanker and the cardiac core alpha. Positional defenses won't be capped across the board in this build. Still, melee defense will be 56.4% after a storm kick, which helps to somewhat reduce the odds of cascading defense failure from melee opponents. AOE will be just softcapped at 45.5%, while ranged will be 40.8%. Smash / lethal defenses will be 51.1% after a storm kick, while fire / cold defenses will be 44.2% after a storm kick. These positional defenses will help to mitigate quite a bit of ranged damage that might otherwise hit. Swarms of mobs with ranged energy attacks that have no smash / lethal component and that have a defense debuff will probably be the among most challenging kinds of mobs to fight. This build increases resistance to recharge debuffs to 50%, from 35% in the earlier build, which should help noticeably for some content. Knockback protection sits at 12, which seems workable for most content. Plus, dark regen will help to fix problems for the weaknesses that exist for this build and it's available every 11 to 15 seconds (or less, with force feedback +recharge procs). Overall, for incarnate content this build should be quite durable. In non-incarnate content, after a storm kick defenses to melee and AOE will still be softcapped, as well as for smash / lethal in all its forms. Fire / cold defenses will be a little over 44% after a storm kick, so almost softcapped. Resists will still be in solid shape overall and dark regen will be available and still on a short cooldown. Overall, durability should be good for content which disallows the use of incarnates. Damage For damage, a key tradeoff being made, compared to the earlier build, is to get a second -res proc into the build (Achilles heel in crippling axe kick). Up to -40% resist to mobs helps to offset the loss of two damage procs that were in the earlier build. Team Buffs Three leadership powers are taken and they provide helpful team buffs (+defense to all, +to hit, +perception, +damage). Some debuff / status protection is offered by tactics and assault (confuse, fear, perception debuffs, taunt, placate). As a couple of build notes, the character planner only allows dragon tail to be taken at level 35. And so, in the actual game dragon tail will be taken at level 20 and cobra strike will be taken at level 35 (basically, they'll be swapped in when they're each taken). Also, the empty slot in crippling axe kick will hold an Achilles -res proc IO. I'm still not certain about the Destiny incarnate pick. Ageless radial offers debuff resistances, which is very appealing; DDR, in particular, could really help the build and it was a key reason for taking Ageless radial. But, Rebirth Core is also interesting, not only as an on-demand emergency heal for self and teammates, but also for the +max hit points buff; dark tanks can't increase their maximum hit points any other way and the heal in dark regen seems tied to max hit points, potentially making it a worthwhile pick. Resilience is probably a worthy pick. But, perhaps resists are in a good enough place that it wouldn't help as much as it might for other possible builds. 12. I'm running into a challenge after downloading the update file. My PC assigned the blizzard downloader as the program that is supposed to open the download file (MRBU_I26P4_202003262320.7Z). So, whenever I tried to open the file the blizzard downloader would fire up, error messages would ensue, and the process would stop there. I switched to Notepad as the program to open up the download file and that didn't lead to a good result either. I tried right clicking with the mouse to see if an "extract" option would come up. But, it did not. I'm probably missing something very simple. Hopefully somebody can point out what that might be. Thank you in advance!
  13. Edit: In the build provided here might of the tanker a +res proc and a res bonus from the alpha incarnate pick were accidentally active and influencing the "totals" screen. So, I overestimated the probable in-game total resistances by quite a bit. I'll need to re-consider the build a bit more before copying it into this post. To be clear, Sovera's post above is highly appreciated because it's helping for finding significant improvements over the build given in the OP.
  14. I'm hoping for some feedback on this build I worked up earlier today for a build concept I have for a tank. As per the tags, I'm hoping to make a durable tank that does good damage and has some helpful team buffs. Particularly if there are glaring errors here, then I'm hoping to find and fix them. 15. I looked over the build given in the OP and found a number of errors in the earlier version. There are probably still some errors here. But, I went ahead anyways to see how the new build given below will play. Key changes are another damage proc in blind (a purple), an acc IO in world of confusion in replacement of a damage proc, and switching the winter set to spectral wounds and ragnarok to lightning storm; with up to 3 storms running at once the damage proc for ragnarok probably does more good in lightning storm than it does in spectral wounds. I also found room for the superior winter's bite proc in spectral wounds, dropping another IO instead. I'm setting this character build as focused on parts of the game in which level 50 IOs matter, and so I'm boosting maximum level IOs rather than using attuned IOs. 16. I received quite a bit of feedback in an earlier thread with an ill / storm / psi build, which was very helpful and much appreciated. Now I'm trying to tweak that build by extending my knowledge about IOs to start using procs more effectively and more often. The build below is an attempt to find a balance between keeping defenses and sustain in a reasonably good place, while also taking advantage of proc opportunities available for my ill / storm / psi build, given that I very much enjoy this particular character. For sustain, I've swapped out the medicine pool and taken leadership toggles instead. That ramps up end use, but hopefully within the margins of what can be easily managed. A heal proc in blind and the use of several different procs (including power transfer: chance to heal in stamina) will hopefully be sufficient for healing, when combined with inspirations. Ranged defense is still softcapped, albeit just barely and with no DDR. My understanding is that Soulbound Allegiance: Chance for Build Up affects the summoner, and not the pets, which if true could make it worthwhile as an IO in the phants. Also having the Gaussian build up proc in tactics is apparently more helpful because it can proc based off of teammates, and not just off of my ill / storm. One potential misfit I see is that there doesn't seem to be enough AOE or melee defense to routinely stand in melee range. So, world of confusion looks quite appealing with two damage procs in it. But, it will probably not be quite as valuable as it could be for improving AOE damage. Hopefully it still serves as a kind of makeshift melee range shield with damage as a side benefit; when deceive is layered on bosses can also be turned away. On a related point, I'm considering switching to control core embodiment, away from support, for the hybrid incarnate slot. The extra mag on confuses and holds would be very helpful to patch up weaknesses in defenses. A bit more DOT damage would also be welcome. Blind has become a place for procs, with a damage proc and the entropic heal proc in it. Feedback is welcome and appreciated. 17. A third attempt is given below. There are some tweaks here and there. Overall smash / lethal defenses rise to 48%, psi resist rises to 76%, and a few other notable tweaks take place. I don't know whether to feel good about a regen of 521%; I've seen noticeably higher on willpower tank builds and I'm not sure what I'm doing to undercut regen so much. I'm also unsure of whether or not I put enough emphasis on accuracy / to hit for the late game. Notably, hurl boulder and tremor are reversed in their selection in Mids reborn, compared to in-game. So, just transpose those two when thinking how the build would come together. Any insights offered would be appreciated. 18. Solarverse: I made a few tweaks to your build that might be worth considering. The changes take smash / lethal defenses to a little over 48%, bump fire / cold resists to close to 62%, bring psi resists to 90%, and move toxic resists to close to 53%. 19. I've been doing more tweaking. Overall this build has substantially better resists overall and slightly better defenses. I changed alpha to resilient core paragon, dropped strength of will, and added in a single target melee attack (stone mallet) to have a place for more set bonuses. Pos / Neg NRG resists are up about 30 points, to the mid-50s, which is about where fire / cold resists are now as well. All typed defenses against damage taken are softcapped except psionic, which is in the mid 30s and is backed up by 74% psi resists. Toxic resistance is up to a little over 30%. My plan is to chew on orange inspirations when needed to fill in the weaker spots (pos / neg energy resists, toxic resist, etc). It's still not as resilient as a build put together for willpower / energy melee that is visible on this forum. I probably still need to do more tweaking. 20. I've not yet IO'd up a tank in, well, ever. So, this first effort may fall way short. On the plus side, smash / lethal resists are maxed and the build reaches softcap defenses for all damage types but psionic. Plus, psionic damage resistance is solid. On the "not as great" side, defenses to smash / lethal / energy / neg energy just reach softcap and resistance to debuffs could be better. And, toxic damage will probably hurt quite a bit, along with energy and negative energy damage, when it lands. Plus, I may not have enough recharge to keep a solid attack chain going, especially when soloing (and not taunting). Finally, I may be giving away too much damage by taking Agility Radial Paragon for the alpha slot. The empty slot is where I'm planning to put the unique "Power transfer: chance to heal" IO. The destiny incarnate is planned to be "Ageless Radial Paragon", to try to build up debuff resistances and to improve recharge; I didn't put it in here because the character planner acts as if the maximum benefit applies all the time (even in content for which incarnates cannot be used), which produces misleading numbers. Any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated. Edit: Fixed a problem with smash / lethal resists not being maxed earlier and some other mistakes. 21. After a couple of days playing my stalker some patterns are emerging, along with questions. A few questions have to do with ideas mentioned earlier in this thread. At the end of the day I think I'll probably make two builds for this character, as inf is no longer a significant constraint. One build would be for regular content and for exemplaring. I'd make another build for soloing incarnates, once I get to that stage. I'd like to slant my current build more toward regular content and easier incarnate content that's frequently run (ie: Tin / Pex, BAF). I can earn the inf to make a second incarnate-focused build a little while later. I don't know how to make an incarnate-focused variant for this build, as of now, and so it's better that I put that off anyways to cut down on the number of expensive mistakes I'd probably make, given my current state of understanding of the game. Looking toward learning how to build for incarnate content, Sovera noted earlier that 59% is a better target for defenses for incarnate content. Is that because defense debuffs arise quite often, or for some other reason? Are there other targets (ie: for resistances, to hit bonuses, etc) to bear in mind when building for incarnate content? Goals for the current build (regular content, low end incarnate content, exemp-ing): I like the Yin TF, in particular, and I frequently run it. I also enjoy Posi 1 & 2 now and again. Plus, sometimes I'll accompany friends on arcs with their lower level characters (not that often, but it's a treat to do it). So, I exemp quite low and quite often overall. That leaves me in a bit of a quandary about hasten slotting. I can see the argument for two boosted level 50 recharge IOs in hasten, freeing up a slot. But, another possibility is to slot hasten with 3 level 25 recharge IOs and boost them 3 - 5 times. I'm also wondering about the slotting for build up and for maneuvers. I don't think there's much benefit to the sixth slot in the red fortune set. I also don't see much of an increase coming about from the Gaussian set and six slots in build up, either. I could find five slots quite easily by re-thinking slotting for these two powers. I'm also not sold on the overwhelming force set being in precise strike. Finally, I'm not certain about the optimal place for assassin's mark. It's serviceable in Serpent's reach, but when exemp'd low enough it doesn't even get used; it might be better in precise strike for that reason. I'd like to keep tactics because being blinded is a huge pain and I'd rather not have to always keep a few yellow insps handy just for those occasions. Also, the set bonuses for adjusted targeting are quite appealing for this build. Potential changes ... I can put the "+ perception" IO from the rectified reticle set in build up, along with a "to hit / recharge" rectified reticle IO and call build up done. That frees up four slots and slightly increases smash / lethal defenses, at the loss of a small amount of nrg / neg nrg / fire / cold defenses. I can take a slot from red fortune, dropping the end / rech IO. These changes free up five slots. With the five slots freed up I could put the Superior Assassin's Mark set in precise strike. Then I could put either 5 IOs from Superior Winter's Bite (dropping the proc) or 5 IOs from Apocalypse (dropping damage) into Serpent's Reach. The Force Feedback +recharge" proc could go into the sixth slot for Serpent's Reach. That still leave four free slots. I'd put an extra slot into stamina and put in the "Power Transfer: chance to heal" proc. That leaves three free slots. Adding a slot to super jump and putting in another winter's gift IO increases fire / cold resists by 3.75%, which is a decent return on one slot. The remaining two slots could be put into tough and the last two Aegis IOs could go into there, which would bring psionic resistance to 17.5%, bring toxic resistance to a little over 20%, and improve fire / cold defenses. 22. Thank you all for your responses. It seems clear that there is room for a variety of reasonable approaches to slotting up a character. And, when and how to use attunements and boosts is becoming quite a bit more clear thanks to posts here and to resources mentioned here. I went ahead and IO'd up my stalker as per the build given in the OP. I've run him through a speed ITF and a speed Yin, a Tin / Pex TF duo, +4x8 Maria Jenkins arc missions, two BAFs, a solo PI +4x8 radio, and sundry other challenges. I wanted to see his limits so I would fairly frequently split off from the team and try to solo +4x8 content. He solo'd fine, he does a ton of damage, and he hasn't died once yet since being IO'd up^. There very well may be better builds out there. But, the adapted version of SwitchFade's build seems to work well enough, at least for the content I've tried thus far. ^ He has had several close calls, including in the Tin / Pex TF duo. But, his EA heal and his Rebirth destiny incarnate power have ended up being very helpful.
  23. I have a staff / EA stalker that I love playing and that I would like to IO out for both endgame play and for examplar-ing (mostly TFs, sometimes just to game with friends). For this build I'm leaning heavily on posts made by SwitchFade in a DB / EA build request thread, adapting the "DB" primary to a staff primary. I'm still quite new to IOs. I've read a fair amount, but I'm still in a bit of a state of information overload. So, when to attune and when to boost, and what role enhancement catalysts play in the process is still not yet quite clear. There may be other very important topics about IOs that I don't yet understand very well, either, or perhaps don't even know about. So, hopefully this sample build will help toward learning how to build characters "on the fly", so they can be IO'd up as they level up, as well as being effective in endgame. The order in which slots are taken is important because set bonuses aren't available until there are enough slots to accept the IOs that provide the bonuses. If I'm making mistakes in the order in which powers are slotted, then I'm hoping to learn about that. I'll buy specialty IOs such as the +3% global defense IOs in kinetic dampening) at relatively low levels, so the bonuses are available even when exemplared down quite low. My initial plan / goal is to buy attuned IOs for basically everything. Can I boost pretty much everything as well, or are attuning and boosting somehow not complementary to each other? I don't see anything to catalyze other than the stalker sets. Feedback would be much appreciated. 24. The following version is even better because a place for a force feedback proc has been found and key defense percentages are higher (especially AOE and fire / cold defenses, and also fire / cold resists, which is helpful). The drawback is less damage in the single target hold and a small drop in a few other defenses. Accuracy is a bit lower than for other powers for telekinetic thrust, as well, but it should still be in a reasonable place overall. I'll probably need Ageless (Destiny incarnate) to make this work, either way. But, I'm fine with that.
