So the problem with KB isn't necessarily that it's bad for you, but it makes doing team content with a kheldian a pain in the fucking ass. Say you're a tanker who just got everyone nice and grouped up or a dominator who placed the perfect CC puddle. Then Mr. Kheldian comes in and uses his big nuke and everyone goes into different planets. That sucks. It feels bad. Is KB conversion needed? No. But it makes them far more viable as teammates as opposed to being forced to stick around.

And a lot of what you list is exactly my point: You point to one-hit-wonder power pools that serve as mules more than anything else. In truth, only a handful of PB/WS skills are really great. But you use them all the time because...well, you don't have better options. So you focus more on pools to supplement all the missing pieces in the rotation.

I'm referring specifically to tri-form, not so much human-only. While I know people like the playstyle I personally feel it's antithetical to the "spirit" of PB/WS. I know I'll get hate for it but yeah, it's like playing a minionless MM: Doable, maybe even good, but...why not just play a different class then save flavor? As for cosmic balance I just feel it's a passive that pushes you into other forms. More tanks? More damage. Why pick lobster when you got like +50% DPS.

You also highlight some other stuff which...well, I didn't -realize- that's how that worked. So I probably missed out on some stuff.

Enhancement slot criticism is fair, agreed.

Nova/Dwarf transform "abilities" would be stuff like that yeah. You can workshop specifically what would be correct but IMO it doing something with a slightly longer CD would make forms a bit more viable/powerful while also nerfing the changeling exploit.

I have to agree. I'll farm occasionally and always open the farm to other players, and sometimes have to threaten to coat the kheld in batter and deep fry them if they don't stop "helping". I'm herding all the enemies into  nice tight bunch then Mister unslotted squid comes along and scatters them to the four winds just before my nuke goes off. Or my AoE. It's so annoying 🙂

  2. I generally take Ageless/ incan and pyronic/ion as a set of tier 4 choices, as I'll run leagues occasionally in events like Halloween and Mapserver. Lores I've tried most of them at some point, and while there are great ones like BP and lousy ones like Tsoo I generally go with the smaller ones like Polar Lights (which is rather good) or Knives of Vengeance which have some nice debuffs. Talons is good too. The appeal of having a huge robot or monstrous entity wears off when you can't see or get through doors because the pet is in the way 🙂

I suppose it depends on your play style. For someone who only plays one character and has the "gotta have them all" thing going on then it can be a goal you set yourself. For someone like me I swap between characters and have no firm favourite. Just what I fancy playing today. So trying to get every incarnate ability would be as frustrating as trying to get all the badges. For you it's a fun goal, for me it's a painful experience 😉

Actually, I can't believe I got all four of these on Excelsior, no less:

    Malibu Kin - A Surfing Fire/Kin Corruptor

Chunk Norris - SR/SJ Tank [Chuck's 'little' brother]

    Hex Kitten - Claws/FA Brute [she's hot]

Fuster-Cluck - Thorny/Earth Assault Dominator [yep, he's a chicken, with a big "FC" on his chest from the Freedom Corps logo]

    ✌️

    you fibber!! 😛

  4. So far this thread has been fun, and respectful. As long as it stays that way I'm happy. From my own personal point of view (I'm an utterly non religious person with zero faith who believes once we die that's it and we're gone) I am happy others have a faith even if I don't share it. As long as those who have a faith accept others don't, or have a different faith to them which is equally valid; and those with no faith are respectful and kind to those who do have a faith even if they don't share it, the world would be a lovely place and we'd all get on 🙂

As for playing characters with a religious theme, that's been a thing since games started. Kids in playgrounds have always role played. Cowboys and Indians* was a thing when I was a kid, as was Angels and Demons. And aliens and spacemen. Which eventually bled into tabletop games then computer games. Humans are fascinated with the divine and the profane. TV shows, books YouTube shorts, movies. Everywhere you look you are not far away from some religious skit/spoof/drama.

    *I know, I'm almost 60 and things have changed since I was 10  😛

So, as we know from CoH mechanics, Def>Res>Heal.  But, and Dark Armor uses this, Stealth>Defense.  Not being seen is not being swung at.  Let the wannabes stand up and scream they are vampires.  Let Heroes kill them and get a vamp slayer badge.  I am managing two blood banks remotely.  Nutrition and cash baby!

My undead mastermind tapped into the Zig teleporter. Enemies are diverted to his lab and the healthy specimens are recycled as new undead minions, the rest are sold to Dr Vahzilok to get cash to pay the rather exorbitant power bill, and the non human and vegetable enemies are turned into compost. It's very eco friendly and as a hero he has a moral objection to digging up the bodies of noble Paragon citizens.

As someone that struggles to play Khelds, I would simply remove the knock back.

I mainly pug and don't want to be the bad guy, disrupting the flow of the team by blasting the mobs all over the place.

Obviously a kb to kd in the attacks would resolve this but that impacts the sets that I want to use.

Simplistic and way below the discussion level that's going on I'm sure but it would get me playing them.

It's not a stupid suggestion. Sometimes even a basic change like you suggest makes for a very different playstyle and slotting. So many powers have a KB to KD proc that could be used for something else. I'm somewhat lost at the high end conversation myself, I can get behind a sensible suggestion I understand 🙂

I'm not surprised the Khelds have such low numbers. I might be wrong in this but when you make one WS and one PB, why would you make more? You can use alternate build options on the same toon. You don't get a wide variety with Khelds. I enjoy playing mine but I don't see the point in making more than one of each.

You might be right. I have a PB and WS on Excel, and apart from toying with the idea of a pure human build (which I can do on the existing toons by swapping builds) the only other WS I made was so I could play on Reunion without having to worry about running out of shard transfers. Once you have your kheld built to your playstyle and budget there aren't a lot of alternatives to choose from. I'm sure we all have half a dozen of a particular AT with different power sets but you don't get that with khelds.

I guessed that out of everything HC staff has to do, updating the forums is low on the priority list. I certainly don't expect status reports on every little thing. What they do release seems very informative and extensive. I apologize for my previous post, I could have written that much better.

No problem. sometimes what we hear in our head when we write comes across a little sharp when it's on the page. I do it all the time 🙂

The HC team might not see any benefit in sharing the information with the player base.

More like the team is so busy it takes something like this to actually take the time out of their day to collate the information. I'm on the periphery but the people with access to this information (not many) are generally doing several things at once and prioritise the important stuff. Plus having full time real lives that limit the time they can spend on everything they need to do. It's not that they didn't want to, it's more one of those things they had in the to-do list that kept being put off due to more urgent things needing their attention.

Pretty sure he's still playing this character on Everlasting.

Or... someone else took the name, because they're online as I post this.

If the creator of the IP contacts us with proof of who they are then they are free to play any of their characters as they wish. A lot don't, simply because they want anonymity and to play and interact with other people as "normal folks". They are free to do so though as it's using other peoples IP that's forbidden, not using your own IP 🙂

  11. I do love a good homage or parody character. I can't name names, but some really make me chuckle. Then I get sad when someone reports them as it's obvious they aren't copying an existing IP. I see the name, the costume and the bio and it's obvious where they got the inspiration from, but it's not the IP and is almost always different enough to pass with a "nothing to see here" from me. Actually, a bio can make or break a character too. "The raging Wolverine" could pass if the costume was different and the bio said they got their powers because they were abandoned as a baby and raised by a colony of wolverines in the wild. Or they were on a camping trip and got bitten by a radioactive wolverine. But without the bio making it transparently clear it's an original character "The raging Wolverine" would get hit with the generic hammer without a second thought. Comic companies own the rights to the image and story of the character, they can't own words themselves. Harley Quinn was a one off side character that took off and now nobody can think of the Batman franchise without her name popping up in the top 10 most popular character lists. But Harlequin is an old word used for centuries. As long as it's not Harley adjacent you're good to go.

Was just an example to illustrate how the one period limitation is too limiting.  I wouldn't want to give away anything usable before I get a chance to claim it for my own.

I was just being silly, I know you wouldn't do that 🙂

You're remembering wrong, the absolute minimum requirement for HC is Windows XP, Service Pack 2. It uses API calls that did not exist prior to that version.

The 64-bit build requires either Windows 8.1 or Windows 10/11. It might run on 64-bit Windows 7 -- I don't remember the exact details of which features were added when and which specific SDK version dropped support for 7. But the 32-bit client is explicitly built using a toolchain that supports those older versions for compatibility.

Not saying it will be the case forever, but our general rule of thumb is to try to make it so that if they could run it at shutdown in 2012, they can come back in now on the same machine.

As for how many people are using it; we don't have exact numbers because we don't collect that kind of detailed information. The launcher does include OS version in the user agent string so we have a rough aggregate guess based on that. Over the past 30 days:

    Windows 11 (64-bit) 30189
    Windows 10 (64-bit) 36042
    Windows 10 (32-bit) 194
    Windows 8.1 (64-bit) 207
    Windows 8.1 (32-bit) 6
    Windows 8 RTM (64-bit) 8
    Windows 7 (64-bit) 619
    Windows 7 (32-bit) 58
    Windows Vista (32-bit) 4
    Windows XP (32-bit) 1
    Windows Server 2012R2 (64-bit) 6
    Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 (64-bit) 2
Windows Server vNext (64-bit) (lolwut) 1
    Wine (Mac/Linux) 4843

Note that just tells us the OS, not if someone is running the 32-bit client on a 64-bit OS, which might be done for a variety of reasons including some older graphics drivers that don't play nice. Though at least in that case, if they're on a 64-bit OS, the 32-bit client can use up to 4GB of address space instead of 2GB, which is less problematic.

Also a glance through the support forums and discord to see a number of people reporting "Out of memory" errors when running the 32-bit client confirms that it's at least a decent number.

that told me. I said it was an old memory from a long time ago. I got it wrong 😛

@GM Crumpet Thank you very much for the response, and that makes complete sense.  I've already made the switch to the Homecoming Launcher and was surprised to find it much easier than the wiki implied.  It actually copied everything over from my Tequila folder, so the install was a breeze!

Out of curiosity, and I know I'm wondering a bit off-topic here, but do you know if there's been any impetus to add 2FA to the login system?

No idea to be honest. It's an admin conversation not a GM one
