I know this is probably impossible because it's probably very fundamental to the way the game is designed, but it sure would be nice if the game was more like Star Trek Online, where the character and account names are conjoined so while one account cannot have two characters named "Steve", every account could have a character named "Steve", because the character's actual name is "Steve@<AccountNameHere>".
That would alleviate this whole situation, which is only going to get worse and worse as the game goes on.That would be nice, but we are stuck with the database functionality we have. Unless we wipe the database and start again with a new database (which I shudder to think how bad that would go down) it's probably impossible

At the moment we still have make a manifest for tequila, but it has to be rolled out manually and checked to make sure it works so there is always going to be a delay when we roll out an update. It's generally not more than a few hours, a day at most. When we do officially drop all tequila support I would be surprised if there wasn't plenty of warning and banners on the forum, plus messages popping up on screen. I'm sure some people will be caught by surprise though. Reading is HARD!! 😛

I find it really odd. I logged back in just after Homecoming went live and it was like it had never gone away. The UI was the same, the music was the same, the graphics were better than I remembered, and there were more power sets to pick from. I'd forgotten a lot and had to ask how to get to Striga and PI though 🙂
Sometimes nostalgia isn't enough, and people are never happy. If that player hadn't played since an early issue then maybe there was a lot that was different. You can't always help someone if they just have a negative outlook. All you can do is cut them loose and wish them well.

I think your best bet would be to ask @GM Crumpet He may not be able to help, but he'll at least get you an answer.
Ah, but will you get the answer you want? 😛

Wasn't me who pulled the plug, but I see Booper answered

Thanks, after talking it over with various people, EB and I decided to accept in the spirit it was intended, as an honor, and just modify our sigs a bit to explain that it's not a "sit back and do nothing" sort of retirement. 🙂
Talking to the people in the city council it was never intended as a slight or as any kind of jab, but a recognition of the work you all did. Saying that, we would never wish anyone to feel uncomfortable so we are more than happy to change something if you ask 🙂

@GM Crumpet? Do you know how "Retired Community Rep" got put with my name? It wasn't there last I looked. Could that be taken down, please? I did not retire. 🙂 Unofficially, we're still doing things, and "retired"...well, just doesn't encapsulate the situation, you know? 🙂 Thanks!
If you don't want it I'll see about getting it removed

The devs are all based in the US?
We are international. It's true a lot are US based, but we have British, Belgian, German and Australian GM's and devs. Even in the US West Coast and East Coast staff will have a time difference.

Yeah there was a small delay in updating the manifest on Tequila, so people who use it wouldn't have been able to get on until the update

Do you have a dedicated graphics card? Onboard ones are notorious for being terrible. What I found with my laptop was I had to open the Nvidia control panel and in the 3D settings mark the graphics card as default always rather than auto as Windows kept opening the game with the onboard intel chip. I assume other graphics card manufacturers have the same options.

Well, people who have the game installed and working pretty much just use it as is and aren’t aware that a new launcher was even created. A current player doesn’t see the new Homecoming launcher in the forums because they’re not a new player and don’t need to download the game. Everything is working fine. No need to look for a new app.
Reaching out to current players with an in game email, adding a one line reoccurring announcement to switch to the new launcher on the MOTD splash screen on login, or any number of other ways to reach people would help. Players who rarely interact with the forums never see the announcements there.
You do have a point. I can't say as I don't know, but I would assume that will happen when we do finally drop Tequila permanently

Or I'll just stick with the launcher that works until all the bugs are ironed out of the new one. ( modus operandi )
This I will keep in mind.
Thanks again for the quick reply to be patient.
Well Tequila will be dropped completely sooner or later, which is why we are pushing the launcher as much as we can. Even now, because of the way the file system has been changed binds and macros have problems on Tequila and often don't save so reset to default when you zone. I'm not a technical person, I just know what people like Number Six tell me (usually in short words with pictures 😛 )

And for what it's worth, I and the rest of the team have the utmost respect for all the former CR's who spent a lot of time and effort working for the benefit of the community.. GM's have real lives as much as everyone else and sometimes we can't do things outside our core jobs, or don't feel comfortable with things. I'm bad at PvP and role playing, I couldn't turn up as Mako and growl at people for instance. It would just be wrong. I'm the silly one who drops in on a Hamidon raid and does daft things to amuse the crowd. Want someone to fetch an enemy out of a wall? I'm your man. Ask me to judge your costume/base/ PvP contest? I'm the wrong person. I'd give the prize to everyone as I think you are all amazing 🙂

I'm loath to lock this thread but I will if it stays antagonistic. There are some interesting points being made, but attacks on other players or retired CR's is not acceptable.

And speaking to the clever people on the GM team, rebooting your PC often fixes it, and opening options and revalidate/verify if a reboot doesn't work

@Lunar Ronin yes.
And it's not that simple. We have folks with a wide range of computer specs and capabilities. A heavily modded setup might require extra work to change launchers.
This computer somehow has three separate installs all from Homecoming. /City of Heroes, /HC, /Homecoming.. it can be as clear as mud sometimes.
@GM Crumpet I did test the new launcher and can use it. Tequila seems to boot me from the game less often.. sooo... whatdayawantmetosay "I am change resistant" 🙂
Maybe hit the "reset graphics on next run" in the options. It's a bit of a catch-all as it does a few back end things when it checks for clashes
Or buy a new PC....... 😛

Apparently this is a thread of people eleborating on the previous posts 😆😆😆
To be fair, if they know it's a thing and can't find the post to look at the thing it's not wrong to ask again 🙂

Crippling peeps game for the 20th anniversary was not the plan.
What matters came from Cipher: " ..give it a bit of time to update. "
It's a May celebration. I was all excited to login asap too. I'll save being disappointed for later today, if it doesn't work then..
I'm shocked!! Shocked I tell you!! I thought you were already using the launcher 🙂

This whole thing is just telling me that Homecoming really needs to work on advertising the Homecoming launcher to people, probably with an in-game pop up message. I'm honestly shocked by how many people aren't using it.
We advertise it, have it on the getting started page and talk about it all the time with a link to download it https://manifest.cohhc.gg/launcher/hcinstall.exe whenever anyone asks about Tequila. I think some people just like to stick to the familiar. I know a few people who won't change something because it works and they don't want to learn a new thing. My friend refuses to give up Windows 98 🙂

I saw this posted once before, but i can't remember where ???
If you click powers then combat attributes, then the top option you'll see influence at the bottom. Right click it and click monitor and it will make a little window with your influence in it
You can drag the little box wherever you want on your screen. You can monitor several things and they will all show in the same box. I usually have my level shift and defence and resistance in there
A bit bothered

I've edited the original post to remove the name of the player. It seemed fairer than locking and hiding the thread. Just to remind people that naming and shaming other players isn't allowed.
And it's rare for a GM to edit players comments, but I think this is an interesting discussion and nothing said so far has warranted more serious action.
