  1. That's amazing what you did and I appreciate it. So all of my inspirations were dead when I entered. That makes sense. What are the inspiration macros doing for you? My screen definitely didn't look like yours. Since you are absolutely more experienced with this than someone that just got on the truck (me), I think I will level the brute the old fashioned way (arcs and teams) and when he had trained plasma shield, temperature protection, healing flames and quills (level 20), he will be capped in fire resistance (inspirations will be bonus) and I shall try again. I just hope he does more damage than my burn tanker (fire/ice) did (laughable).
  2. I went to a Comic Con Fire map with a level 24 burn tanker. His fire resistance was capped (little def). He could stay in there all day long. Brought the Level 7 Spines/Fire brute in the same place with fire res capped with inspirations. Dead in seconds. My thinking is my 24 tank has a higher health pool. He can take some hits and keep going. The level 7 takes a hit or two and that's all the health buffer he had. Ya think? Update/ Brute's Health is 230 Tank's Health is 1,181
  3. I'm a level 7 Spines/Fire Brute with SO's. I buff up my fire resistance to cap, def to 130% (desperate). Go in Story of a Real Big Dog @ -1x8, bosses off (foes are level 6). I'm dead in seconds. Is there a bug or something I'm not aware of? Edit: Lowered dif to -1x4 (capped defenses - dead in seconds)
  4. This is a solo build and wondered if I could use that power
  5. As soon as I got "Field Operative" I quickly engaged it and left it on forever. But then wondered just how good this stealth was. Could I walk up to a boss without them noticing me? Could I walk up to a mob, lay down trip mines or time bombs and walk away to get the fun starting? When I trained the gun drone I would set it up before a fight. I could see it firing, but it wasn't causing much damage. It was kind of wimpy. Not what I expected for a tier 9 power.
  6. That really got me laughing, thanks!
  7. The main reason I like having a tank on my team is their ability to protect the team by taunting the bad guys away from us. Sure they can taunt just by hitting something, but that’s a lot weaker than taunt. If I’m taking a lot of damage then I know that “built-in” taunt isn’t working. If they maxed out their defenses like they should have, this would be easy for them. I’ve noticed that most (if not all) tanks are no longer training taunt as they want an extra attack power. Well we don’t look at a tank for DPS. Why would they even consider this? When I start a new tank, the first attack I train is taunt. Training defensive powers have priority as it is the primary. I have a job to do and it’s not DPS. The scrappers, stalkers, blasters, etc. have that job. Since attacks on a tank are their secondary, they won’t do much good anyway. It’s like a defender training a lot of blasts up front and slotting them for damage. It makes no sense because they will be far weaker than a blaster or other offensive primaries. My defender blasts are slotted with debuffs. Looking forward to seeing “real” tanks on CoH in the future.
  8. The only use for it was when I was being followed by an ambush. I drop them as often as I could as I was running for the exit.
  9. She must have done it with teams. It sure doesn't work solo.. The pets keep getting wiped even at -1.
  10. Had just liked Cold Dom. Tried it with a Defender, but that was too boring. The with an Ice Controller and Ice was broken (no tohit debuff). So I figured an MM might work, Its just too bad that it didn't. Sorry Cold Dom.
  11. Well this is my second go with beast. The first was Kinetic and that worked early on due to its heal in melee range. He's up in the mid thirties. Know about thermal (have a mid thirties demon/thermal and ninjas/thermal). Wanted to try something different to keep my interests up for the game. So it won't work with SO's. What ever happened before IO's were around? (Guess Cold Dom and Beasts weren't around either - lol).
  12. I'm level 20 and using SO's in everything. Shields are 4 slotted with 2 res and 2 def (endurance not an issue yet). Just got Arctic Fog so only one slotted with res. Liked Cold Dom because it buffed the pets defenses on both resistance and defense. The pets shine on a team (we did Flux's Frostfire last night at +3 successfully with the team), but couldn't hack other missions solo +0x1 or even -1x4. They just kept on dieing quickly. Running solo is just a test to see how they perform on their own without outside buffs or heals.
  13. Yes I team 100% of my time. The action and colors are fun to watch. Always look for new arcs to experience. Lead teams for several hours a day usually 4-6 hour sessions, 2-3 times every day (age 66 and retired). If the server population is low, I'll play a different game.
  14. The following is just my opinion and is not the way to play by everyone. The goal for many players is to reach the max level and beyond on a character. This has never been “my” goal. Don’t care to grind raids or even the incarnate system here. There’s just too much waiting to experience by me. Since I rarely get a character to max level (1 in 200 and never beyond that), there’s little need to build out a set. CoH gives us thousands of combinations to try. My goal is to have fun, but also to look for good synergies. Many players here are altaholics like me. The story arcs are very interesting so that’s where I spend my time. Grinding radio missions and tf’s will never happen. if I like a character, I’ll play them to the low 40’s. If I don’t like them, they get abandoned in the low 30’s. During live I only had three 50’s and only one on Homecoming. Once they got to 50 I stopped playing them because I have already spent too much time with them (don’t care to grind a character). There are too many more to play and too many other games to play as well (have spent over a thousand hours in Satisfactory already as there is no such thing as a max level). just started a water blasts ice armor sentinel. It’s interesting playing him because I get to experience how all the powers work and work together. At 38 the last main power is trained. There’s little reason for me to go much further because it’s not interesting anymore and there are no more special powers to look forward to.
  15. I’m not putting down the IO system. It’s just that I prefer to make a good thing better than a bad thing. That kind of gets you to a higher result. What’s better, 100 + 40 or 75 + 40?
  16. Last night a player had a WP tank that I once tried, but just couldn't take alphas past level 30 and he was abandoned. Told him about it and he said that he added a bunch of IO's to fix the defense holes. That may have worked some, but you don't "fix" a bad AT with expensive IO's. Use them to make good AT better. This adds true value to your character.
  17. Other blasters that I've played were all about DPS. Every attack power on Beam Rifle got used over an over. Course most were single target and a few AOE. But with Seismic you spam Shatter and Entomb as your only single target hitters. I would use Rock Shards sometimes even though its a cone and Upthrust even though it's an AOE. The other powers are for utility and controlling. Didn't bother with Encase as a minor hold. Seimic Force is just an "aim" power. Using this along with the build up power before an attack sounds nice, but will never work in a large team. By the time you cast all that, your target is already dead. Stalagmite is a fill in, but mostly a useless attack. Tombstone is the sniper but gets interrupted so much I couldn't use it unless I was pulling a new mob. Meteor is a good opening move along with Upthrust. Casting Meteor takes awhile to hit, so when you cast Upthrust directly after both of them will hit at the same time. It all looks good, but the results are lackluster (definite not a nuke). Earth has a few powers that were worth their weight in gold. The others can be deleted. Mud Pots gives you a direct automatic heal that spams low numbers when you get hurt. The recovery part is pretty amazing. with just two health enhancements until I was in my late 20's kept me from having an endurance issue. Near 30 with all the main attacks being spammed the end started to drop. Added two end mods in it and the endurance never dropped past 90% again. Tremors is a pure melee attack that was copied by so many other AT's (having a huge animation like you're really gonna slam the heck out of others, yet only light damage happens. Beryl Crystals is a nice animation, but doesn't add to anything that you'll ever need. In summary my blaster is level 33 and will be abandoned. Not even looking forward to the last two earth powers since the main attacks are so limited. If was a valiant attempt, but didn't do much but add a cosmetic opportunity. Kind of why the other players that use this are new. You definitely don't see any Seismic vets.
  18. I was about to train the tier 8 power for Ice Blast called, "Bitter Freeze Ray." But something stopped me . Even though the words below said extreme damage, the description reads medium damage. I knew them that something was a miss and abandoned the corruptor until I found the truth. You all have pretty much uncovered that.
  19. About a weak ago I wrote a post called, "Weak Blasters." Today I was looking at making a Corruptor, because I've never created one before. I started looking at the attacks and notice that the second one on the list said "Superior Damage." Also noticed extreme damage on a lot of attacks on each corruptor. Has it always been this way or did the developers finally gave you some love in the last patch?
  20. As I stated before, I only made the beam/regen sentinel, because I was curious to see what happened to the stats of upon training and slotting (just SO's) the regen powers. Wanted to keep going past level 35, but then saw the ridiculous epic pool powers again and stopped. So I only spent one day on this project -- on to the next!
  21. That's actually very funny, but do you think we can get back to the conversation at hand?
  22. Yes, but if I wanted those basic epic pool powers, I would make the character that specializes in it. Those powers have nothing to do with any of the sentinel powersets that I have played. I would not choose any of them so either I train another standard pool power or I abandon the character. Of all of my sentinels, only two have reached 44-46, but the grind was too much and I stopped playing them.
  23. It is never a goal in any game that I play to reach the maximum level. My goal is to have fun. In City of Heroes, like many players, I make an enormous amount of alts. Usually one every 1-3 days. If I don't care for them, I'll abandon them at about level 35 or less. If I like them I may get as high as 45, but this becomes too much of a grind, so I usually stop at 40-42. If an alt really stands out for me that I was very impressed with it, I will take it all the way to 50 and beyond. This has never happened on this server so I have no 50's here. I joined a farm once, but had no intention to just sit there and soak XP. So I played along with the 50's even though I was in my teens. I played the "sitter" routine once in another mmo. It was very boring and that character was deleted right afterwards.
