Been playing an energy blaster and it is the most fun I've ever had playing this game. I started as a Tanker, so I am aware of the list of problems knockback can pose on teams. My current issue is I am not causing any of those problems, but I'm still getting the "advice" to change KB to KD. I am sure this has been discussed many times. Does anyone have a short, succinct explanation that they have had success with? I'm not optimistic... as the person saying it rarely has any reasoning behind it. This is a reflexive thing people do sometimes, repeating conventional "wisdom" out of context.

Anyone else prefer to just play "regular" coh?
Forager replied to Forager's topic in General Discussion
Exactly that. I can't imagine how anyone got anything different. -

My issue is that I have difficulty finding or forming teams that play at my speed. When you say there isn't an issue, are you saying that has not been my experience? I did find and form teams that play at my speed? I can't tell if you think I'm lying or I'm mistaken. Or maybe you are still a little confused about what my issue is? If you go back to your first reply, it was the very first sentence of your post. You found the question all by yourself and answered it. Or maybe you are confusing a belief that there shouldn't be an issue with the idea that there isn't one? You just seem really confused. -

I used to think it was a skill issue for me too... but sometimes there's a difference between not being very good at something or just not knowing a lot about it. Do you differentiate between those? -

It's impressive that you failed to see the issue but managed to nail it in your very first sentence! Good job! Maybe you subconsciously understood? -

Thanks for your contribution. This was valuable insight. -
Uh... thanks? Lol you guys thought the point of my post was needing a rez?

I guess it makes sense there are quite a few active forum users that are into it. This is, by definition, the most patient and interested players. I have read about Steady Indom and it sounds more like my speed. -
I really like that you pointed out noticing teammates. When I'm on a team that's a little too good sometimes we will be 5 missions in and I'm like "who is that guy?!" I don't love that. Sometimes I don't know anybody but the leader and maybe whoever teleports a lot and I feel bad about it. Like I'm just laying face down waiting for a rez for awhile before realizing maybe nobody has one.

Lately I've been trying to just play "regular" ie going to contacts, getting a mission, completing arcs... I have only two 50s since returning from 2005... i barely know what's going on in the endgame... and this method of play is more relaxing to me. I advertise in LFG some version of "old school mission team, unknown enemies, unknown maps..." sometimes I add "we will probably have to use pulling and other tactics... we will die some" I usually get only a few takers who say "sounds fun" or "let's do it" which is fine because I personally prefer small teams. It either goes really well... or people are leaving halfway through the first mission. Croatoa is the latest culprit. The maps and quality of the missions are all over the place. I don't even know that it's an xp issue, because it seems fine to me. I play on +1/x4 maybe that seems low to people? But i never stop moving and fighting.. Is this just not a thing anymore?

I solo'd him with a level 15ish energy/devices blaster recently... but i died once and had to run back so I guess that doesn't count? In fact I don't know that I've ever NOT solo'd him if it was my mission. Maybe defenders would have a hard time?

My main originally started as if I was a hero. It was literally just me. My second character was my wife as a super hero. He is a natural origin Beam Rifle/Willpower sentinel. He was bald, under 6ft and the physique and chest sliders were almost all the way to the left. His office in my sg base was messy, just like mine. It was a fun project at first, but he is pretty boring. He is versatile and reliable, but specialists can do anything he does so much better. Playing yourself in a video game kinda sucks sometimes. I changed the name and backstory, gave him hair and made him bigger, but he's still a sentinel sooo... My wife as a character, however... that's very fun. She is a technology origin energy/devices blaster who is focused on fashion. She is an influencer-hero who has cameras following her around (targeting drone is her main camera). With other characters, I play very slow, safe and methodical... waiting on the tank or leader to do their thing... but with her I roleplay a little and push the limits. My wife does everything pretty aggressively, so I try to get her into trouble.

I go look at all animations in the powerset in the character creator before I pick a powerset, but i don't think ahead ever again... then I just play normal af. I don't even know at what level powers unlock. When they do, I get a surprise... AND since I've already seen it, I don't have to agonize over whether or not to pick it.

I tried to send an in-game email, but I have no idea if it works as I cannot locate my sent emails/outbox. Enjoyed doing the maze, but I can't make it Saturday!

Do You Prefer to Take it Slow? Introducing Steady Indom
Forager replied to Lunar Ronin's topic in General Discussion
I love this idea. Since I came back to this game I often have no clue what I'm supposed to be doing... I'm worried that I'm not contributing much, wasting time on things I don't need to bother with or worse... getting in the way. I tried to play a few years ago and got discouraged because of this, but I've recently taken coh up again. -
Sound effects/music objects. Sound design in base building is my current biggest problem. It's just too quiet. I sink boombox npcs into the floor when I just want random music, but it would be nice to just have an invisible object that plays specific songs or sounds. On top of picking the right soundtrack for each room it would be great to be able to add ambient sound like wind, crowd murmuring or traffic. It should also be relatively simple to code... it wouldn't need a graphic component. Just a little square like the FX. Maybe even do low volume and high volume versions of each sound.

Thank you, Dacy. Your videos were very helpful. Here's two other things I made... a robot triceratops and a uh... whatever that is.

The nightclub is definitely not photosensitive friendly. I used an obscene amount of effects in there but I thought the mirrored ceiling was cool.

I'm still trying to get the hang of lighting things. I finished the entire base before I even understood how lighting worked and recently went back to do it. That's an area I would definitely love some pointers on.

The Apparatus Excelsior Passcode: FORAGER-18887 I am not done, but it's finally suitable for visitors. This is The Apparatus.. The theme is a commercialized training center and pro shop for natural origin heroes. The actual base itself feels done-ish... but it's still a work-in-progress. The motorcycle needs cleaning up and there is a danger room and dojo that are not finished. There is a bit of a psychedelic experience hidden in the office. It's technically done, but it's just chapter 1. If you do go down there, the teleporter back is on the old version of the ship above you (it's the way out of what will eventually be a series... which is the end so I guess I have the last chapter too). I won't bore you with (or spoil) the plot, but it should be obvious that Forager is dabbling in things he shouldn't be. There are some things I am very proud of. The MMA cage was the first original thing I ever built out of parts and the nightclub came out exactly the way I wanted it to (flashing light warning). I tried to make the storage, trainers and workshop stuff integrate with the base in a way that made sense. The travel is a bit kooky, but only I use the place so it makes sense to me. I went a little crazy with the Ouroboros set, but it was fun and I couldn't stop. As far as the actual functional aspect of it, it feels pretty complete. This is my first one so let me know if I didn't think of something. There are a couple of secret-ish things... more like just my attempts at being clever. Make sure you exit through the gift shop and pick up your copy of When Life Cons Purple. Any legacy assault rifle or book purchase comes with a free Red Potion! Made and bottled right here in Paragon!

Dacy I got one from one of your videos recently: I wish I had thought to attach surface towers to ceiling the ceiling instead of shift-dragging it down a million times. That's one of those simple ones that would have saved me a lot of time and energy. I'm mad I didn't think of it.

F2 for and angle and F5 for attachment, but yeah. I also didn't know there was a redo command for way too long. I knew undo because CTRL-Z is a habit, but didn't know CTRL-Y was redo. Super handy when you miss a click-drag and you're not sure what, if anything, you actually grabbed and moved or where it went.

That's a great one! I would add to the list that teleport points within a base face you whatever direction you were facing originally (which I also just figured out this week).
