This is a normal moral justification for dark ops, both real and fictional, to which my normal rejoinder is "necessary for who?" Are these actions genuinely necessary to save lives and preserve peace, are they rooting out corruption (real or imagined), are they a power grab, or the accumulation of power and influence for S31 itself? I don't think you can do truly grimdarkjusticevengeanceNOPARENTS Trek, or a space version of RABBIT/HOLE, and I'm not sure I'd watch it if they did - certainly not shelling out for P+. You could throw them a lot of the moral quandaries that Sisko went through. Incidentally, this may not be classic lightside Trek, but damn if it's not one of the finest speeches and fourth-wall breaks that's ever been done on telly. Sir Pat was probably jealous.

The Penguin TV Series
ThaOGDreamWeaver replied to ThaOGDreamWeaver's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
Without spoilering the movie, Farrell is unrecognisable beyond the eyes - it's a full physical transformation in terms of body posture, attitude, absence of trademark tics. The prosthetics are... just fractionally back from being cartoonishly gross - I've met and had to bat off similarly structured guys realtime - yet allow him the full range of expression and movement. It's stunning work by both actor, crew and director, made richer by the fact that he's not the Big Bad of the flick - which allows him freer reign of possible loyalties and plot movement. In this trailer we see quite a lot of range in 90 seconds for this character, plus the ever-fabulous Shohreh Aghdashloo and yes, Clancy Brown. I have something to say... Per Wikipedia, the makeup has been adjusted to allow for even greater range of movement and definitely feels more firmly on the side of reality than the flick did. (Though from the before/after looks of things, if Pengy ever brought out a diet book, he'd never need to commit a crime again). It still weirds me out that the Bat-villains were all these top-name actors of their day - the regular crew, plus serious guest stars like Vincent Price - having a massively good time. It's like Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix and Sofia Vergara showing up on The Aquabats Super Show! or something (who, to be fair, HAVE had some fairly serious guest stars.) I also still want to know how this thing came about - presumably Burgess was late on set one day...? -
A very tiny taster of the Colin Farrell series. Not sure if Oswald’s been on a diet since the flick, but this bird feels leaner and meaner…

SNW is pretty good from what I've seen, has introduced Uhura and Kirk as well-rounded characters (though JTK is off to one side at this point). AM and his fabulous hair show up well in the lead, and there's a fine supporting cast that the writers aren't afraid to kill when necessary (eg: Hemmer). Speaking of which, they play around with two classic pieces of lore - the Gorn get a fairly nasty upgrade, and Balance of Terror does the same for the Romulans. Also, were I younger, I would be attempting to date Ortegas. But probably both of us too self-doubting to do anything... If I've had a gripe so far, it's that they just had to have a comedy cosplay episode (which the cast clearly had an awful lot of fun doing, but felt a little early to let them indulge), and next season involves a Lower Decks crossover episode, with Quaid and Newsome in live-action. Frakes is directing, so it should be at least done well, but...? Not sure what happened to the Section 31 series that was mooted with Michelle Yeoh, but she's been everywhere all at once lately. Oh, and they should call it Dark Matters. (Which is both accurate, foreboding and a neat physics-y joke.) Oh, and if I had a gripe about Picard... there's so much fanservice rammed in and frequent deus ex lore-ia moments that it starts to get in the way of proper storytelling, but the asteroid to the FACE moment definitely worked. Which, in itself, may have been a nod to its distant cousin Galaxy Quest.

Heh. I’ll need to visit the tailor. Also: hideous recharge time aside, Spring Attack is a little piece of awesome hiding in the Leaping pool. Slotted with -RES and hitting Combat Readiness, then use that as the alpha, and follow up with Spinning Strike or Uppercut. Very on brand, hella fun and great for wiping out packs of minions at a stroke. So, penultimate Mando ep: -
If I was going to handwave this a little, I’d think the Scarab might have chosen Jaime… wisely. He’s probably the first human to possess it that doesn’t want to either exploit it or destroy it, and therefore a relatively safe pair of hands. And assuming the AI is smart enough to be self-aware that it’s an armageddon weapon, it might also be smart enough to work out it would be destroyed in the process and doesn’t fancy that (unlike the Smart Bomb in Dark Star).

So, much to the chagrin of the neckbeard contingent - and I mean, after racking up over $1bn globally, a CinemaScore A rating, and critical acclaim from anyone who wasn't streaming from their mum's basement on YouTube while screaming for her to bring them more meatl... Ahem. ...there is a second Captain Marvel movie, this time teaming up with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan. ...and I think I'm going to enjoy it. Let the (polite, balanced and properly moderated) flaming commence!

Wish I’d been able to go, but had family stuff on for Easter Weekend… …but, rest assured, even in my absence, Brit fans take SWCE with all the seriousness it deserves. -
Also: the Keaton Batman had the tools, toys and talent - and a reputation - from 2 minutes in. He was smacking down Skuls before Jack Napier ever touched chemicals. (The opening sequence is also a bluff - it echoes the original Crime Alley setup, but ain't...)

Or Pumpkin Spicesaber. If Zahn is properly on board then, yes, expect a few beats from the books - the automated fleet would certainly be useful, as would cloning tech. But then again, Brainy Smurf is known for his ability to deceive and surprise… hopefully the audience too.

"When one sets out to conquer the galaxy, you have to be a little self-aware. The image you project, whether in a personal interrogation, or on a vulgar 30-metre-high holographic statue, has to be one of power, confidence, and without vulnerabilities. This is the case in all cultures I've explored and, when necessary, crushed, in their art, their history, their legends. That's why I use Just For Chiss brush-on hair dye. Sonic shower proof for up to thirty days, and guaranteed not to run, whether from Tatooine heat, Kamino showers, or in the face of transdimensional space squid..." Speaking of space squid. We don't know how long he was travelling with the pod, to where, or when, or if time passes the same way around them. So he may not have aged as much as we think - or Ezra, for that matter. On m'learned coll's Eternal Emperor theory (and it's nice to have him around on these threads, like our own personal Holocron...) 1) Sorry to the haters, but Rey is not being erased. She's getting another movie about trying to rebuild the Jedi Order. Because that went so well for Luke. 2) If Ray is the Eternal Emperor and doin' the muckety-muckaround with timey-wimey stuff... ...what are the odds that we see Thrawn and Ahsoka uniting against a greater threat? Since that could erase not just the New Republic, but the Empire as well, rewriting history in his image?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've just started a SJ/WP and it's been very enjoyable for the first 10 levels - the combos are working well, and I added Jump Kick just for a bit of top-rope flair. THIS IS MY HOUSE... -
