  1. As a CISSP it _is_ a nightmare. NCSOFT got hacked. They allowed an employee to offload not just the code, but the entire player databse from the looks of it. Those in the know _say_ there was not CC info, but I have not seen the database scheme that was stolen, so I don't know if any of my actual personal information is there. Personally, given the chance, I would have no choice but to 'go after' anyone that has stolen consumer data, period. The fact we play on stolen code is heavily on my mind, TBH. Companies go bankrupt over things like this. At the least, with all we now know, NCSoft as an entitiy could easily be liable if any of that consumer data exists and is used.
  2. You seem to want now to spare over minutae. Have fun with that, I am not into rules-lawyers. I don't care _when_ things were added to _which_ MMO, we were not in the board room, so we can (mostly) only guess at _why_ it happened. Who said cold-hearted? It was, and is for many MMOs, a valid biz strategy. Working that biz strategy into the Lore just makes good sense. Not evil, not bad, just good money making. I do NOT begrudge game companies making money like a lot of gamers do, I know they have bills to pay. In the case of City of Vilians, that idea fell flat in the marketplace, IIRC. IMO, you _did_ put down Dr.'s creativity with your words, no matter if you meant to or not, that is what I infer from your langauage and tone. You implied he was potentially not 'creative enough' to get around these restircts while he was simply saying they would force him to do so, IMO. Whatever. IMO, there is no ROI in 'going backwards' to more restictions, it will not _increase_ anything other than player frustration. If anyone has the desire to go backwards, the code is out there, alter it, build a server, have fun. I will continue to look forward, not backwards, and fight tooth and nail against anything I see as restricting creativity, just as I do in RL. For the most part, in my world, nostalgia is a death sentence for creativity and moving forward, creating totally unnessasary issues. And to Phil, if someone thinks I am a big meany, they can do whatever they like, the Hall Monitors and Busy Bodies are to be ignored IMO, they are welcome to ignore this 'mean old poster' that speaks bluntly and without regard for 'feelings'. If this board, running around a game in this grey area, cannot even handle my langauge and tone, go ahead and ban me now. I am blunt and that will not change. :)
  3. That's all great and everything. But if I can only play some ATs on one side, that is restrictive. In other MMOs where there are factions, the same classes exist - even in SWTOR, be they slighty changed. If ATs get split, then is lowers the variables we can use to create characters on BOTH sides. So there is no sae reason to force the classes to each side beyond 'just because someone likes it' - no ROI in terms of more players, etc, IMO. As discussed, it would just force people to immediately run to the Gull to switch. And, you sent so far as to put down anothers creativity, which is just BS. All of these restictions were built out the premise of getting people to log in more hours and spend more money on the game, coupled with the inhernet whining of player bases that cannot keep up with change and fear it. Without the retail outlet around the game, they serve no purpose other than to restict creativity.
  4. I have no issue with people getting whatever name they like. However, from what I know about coding and the information we have at hand, it seems like they use the CharacterName as a primary key in pretty much all of the base game. Changing deep things like that can be really risky, even when you know how it's built - trying to comeback and change that behind others in a codebase like this, years later, yeah, that does not sound like fun. Digging in the code to figure out how to do it is the first step. That will have to be a passion project just like all the rest of the changes people would like.
  5. Did not know that! Agent Reagent is going to finally get a new coat, that old one has goteen beat up...
  6. Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner!
  7. It's a main Chest option.
  8. ...and for years you could only play villain ATs redside, and the redside population was still just as low as it was after that restriction was lifted. I highly doubt a significant number of people would have started redside just to get a villain AT to blueside. Further, what good would that even do? So, more grouping for low level content, and still vast emptiness for anything past the point that a character can migrate. I just can't see any benefit to those restrictions. The old 'more restictions makes me think harder bit' is just that, old. More restictions just makes everyone fall into some vision of 'how to have fun' based on rules in code. If you want the rules and restrictions to make you more creative, then apply them to _your_ creations. Restricting _everyone_ is just a form of control to dictate the narrative. Personally, I am waiting for someone to mod the system such that _all_ the zones and content are _always_ accessible to _all_ characters. This way, we have a big sandbox to do what we like. A ham-fisted attempt at resticting players in an effort to get them to 'confrom and play properly' is silly, IMO. I will not be placed in a box and I will try to break any boxes others are using to control the narrative and stiffle creativity. If you want more people to play the villian content, forcing class or other restrictions is not going to do it. At best, from posts here it would be a win for some, you would just see a few less ATs in Altlas, they would have to switch over later. If the immersion realy menas that much to you, run your own server.
  9. No. No gating cosmetics. There no reason other than 'tradition'. You can gate yourselves, don't force it on the rest of us. Make your own server if you want restrictions.
  10. /unsigned. Restrictions just because you cannot think of a good one? I just do not understand people that want to put restictions on the creatvity of others. Why even look at these classes as Villiand or Hero - they are just classes. The _original_ design did not even have classes, you could just 'pick two'! Never made it out of development because 'balance'. Are Thor and Hawkeye 'balanced' - I think not. Why do some people want to put everything in it's own little box? I just don't get it. I am not even trying to be snarky here, I just do not understand why poeple playing games like restictions to creativity. And it seems like poeple are 'just sad' because some class or another is not popular? Are we looking for things to grouse about now? :)
  11. I once, many years ago, tried to describe drag and drop over the phone to my mother. It ending in yelling and tears. Computers are hard for some people. :)
  12. Yeah, you are not alone on just finding out about it...you are not the first and certainly not the last to ask. :)
  13. I agree with you, except for cosmetics, in CoH, especially in present state, no need to restrict them, IMO.
  14. Altitis is a noun, per my very wordy wife unit. I had 30+ 50s on live. How did I do it? Like khy, I just kept switching. Sometimes, 1-50 if I loved it and it became a favorite. Mostly, jumped around and played what felt fun at that moment, for that mission with friends, etc. Here and now, I honestly have as much time now as before to play. Since there are multiple server groups coming online, now do we not only have so many ideas to try out, but we have entirely different communities in which to do so, with it growing I think. Tsoo many ideas, Tsoo many servers, so much fun awaits.
  15. exactly where did i say this ? I was raising the question, nowhere did i say IT SHOULD. i stated that to me it feels that something is missing. i never once said this is how it should be. I don't see where he said andys71 said that - he said 'people' and used your quote as a reference for the outlook of opening the can of worms, IMO. So, perhaps don't take it so personally. For some, like me, even the suggestion brings on a massive amount of passion.
  16. The main relevant thing I have no tolerance for is others stiffling creativity and fun, especially through adding in a Protestant Work Ethic. You can all play on my lawn and hop in the pool, all are welcome all the time in my teams and games. I look forward, not back, even as most of my peers becaome cranky old grandparents. Just because people think and live differntly, does not make it wrong, it just makes it different. Except evil clowns. They are by definition, wrong.
  17. Yeah, a wiki per server sounds like a ton of work few people will want to put in unless they can get ad clicks out of it or something. Sounds like some people are producing apps that are built off of the actual codebase, that will help character building. What I still don't get, this is the old gamer emerging, but why do you need a wiki to spell it all out, why not just play and figure it out, isn't that the point of playing a game? You can rebuild/respec easily when you find things don't work they way you thought, etc. What minutae would be in a wiki that you cannot find in the game? I get maps and badge locations, I get character builders. I don't get why so many people want to go to a wiki to read someone else instructions on how to have fun.... I don't see this as detective 'work', I see it as the fun of learning the game... Just my perspective.
  18. IME, this has been the case from Day 4 of retail when I started playing... This game, more than any other I have played, has had busy-bodies and hall monitors trying to tell others how to be Heroes. I find it a fascinating thing to watch, while being irritated at nostalgia loving, change-averse players trying to drag us down and turn the game into a job where I have to 'prove' something to them to allowed to play it. So many years, so many conatant circular arguments. This was an ongoing topic even when the game was live.
  19. Mostly new. Had 30+ 50's at the end. Tried to remake a couple and just thougt 'Eh, I already played that one'. Might reuse a couple names, but I think my preferences have evolved in a number of ways. Percy Verance, WP/SS Tank will live on, I mean, he does 'never stop trying' after all. Minimus Prime, homage to my Mini I was just finishinhg up when the servers went dark. Loving the fact the game still feels fresh enough I can continue making new chracters though!
  20. Love the Sorcery Flight effects. I have not been crunching any numbers yet, still running to 50, still not settled enough to crunch. I like the looks of those, I think I will have to tell my blaster buddy he needs that. :)
  21. While not a bad idea, IME, this just turns into a list of things for players to then yell about when they don't get done or are not done the way they thought they would be, etc. Love the idea, but in this cimmunity of extremely emotional and non-technical players, IMO, it might not fly well. Just my thoughts.
  22. No, because KS _does not exist_ in this game. All XP, drops and kill counts are shared. The issue here is that a few players want to 'tag groups in the open world and finish them off alone' - to test, for fun, whatever. In an open world game, you have to play with everyone, all tastes. So everyone has to 'suck it up' in the open world. There are no 'rules' around this beyond the code insuring there is no KS. If someone wants to play 'by themselves in an open world', then IMO, they are the ones that need to change course, they are fighting the very nature of the game itself, not the heroes that swoop in to help them. You _can_ run your own server now. This is old fashioned, OCD, mental issues level at this point - there is no KS, there are only cranky players that think we should all magically know thier preferences and abide by them, following thier unspoken rules that have no real meaning, which they become livid over with little to no warning. The only problem here is a few players that do not have the capability to play MMOs without telling everyone else how to play. Play how you like, but don't tell someone else how to have or not have fun. If you really, really think KS exists, then run your own server and ease your own mind.
  23. Dude. This a cancelled game running on community servers, that has only been back online for the masses for a couple weeks. If you think that info should be compiled, _then help compile it_. :)
  24. At the time, Paragon said the capes caused a lot of drag on GPUs. All subscription games have the sole intent of making you play longer. Period. That is the business model. You sound like a grognard. If you want to grouse about the good old days, go right ahead. I choose to look forward, not backward, and accept that things change. This is a game, not a job, not something that has to be earned or that has to contain 'work', especially for vanity items with no retail store. It is a video game for prentendy fun time, not a place I have to prove my Protestant Work Ethic to people like you.
  25. Nope. This was all done in the retail version to get players to play longer and to, supposedly, lower graphic impact. All these years later, no retail, not nearly as many toasters. Why restrict your creativity in some quest to 'go home' and make things 'like they always were'? Makes no sense to me. Progeression is powers and enhancements, etc., not style, unless you choose to do that for your character, IMO.
