TBH, I always thought the best thing that could be done with them was/is to advertise real-life 'hero' charities. Just give the links/info in a fun 'CoH' style, but have the real information, possibly even a slash command that takes you to donation sites. IMO, this has a good chance to bring a lot of positive PR as well. A group a gamers playing on servers that are run not-for-profit and generating traffic/revenue for real-life hero non-profits also sounds like something any company might think twice about 'attacking'. Just my pennies.

The Future - An Open Letter from the Homecoming Team
jubakumbi replied to Jimmy's topic in Announcements
These are the technical levers. The technology can always be worked out, geiven enough kungfu. However, the players involved would crush this like a bug. Can you imagine the indignation of an i24 'purist' playing on a server where someone like me was allowed to level up on 'easy mode' on HC and then want to transfer to thier 'real' server? I can. :) Some of these ideas are awesome and many will work mechanically just fine. I simply do not see they 'communities' coming together, they never have and recent events show us many have no desire to compromise, only to dictate and demean those of us that are 'cheating' and 'not playing the way the devs intended.' As much as I think central character vault would be awesome, 30 years of experience in IT tells me that the humans involved will prevent it, IMO. -
What's hurting Dark Primary for Blasters?
jubakumbi replied to Solarverse's topic in General Discussion
Nope. He referred to a fact and said newbies might not know that fact. It was, in no way, a put-down and was not offensive. I realize you took it that way, but from my PoV, you totally fired the first salvo. There are a ton of new players, he was obviously also trying to inform people that are not vets is all. As to the topic at hand, my Dark/Dark blaster is a ton of fun. I don't feel like I run through content any slower than other blasters and I am hit way less, so are my teammates. So from my PoV, the minutae might not look the same, but the play is awesome. -
I don't get why this is so much better than CO
jubakumbi replied to Warpstarr's topic in General Discussion
CO and DCUO for me both fail in the same place. They try to shoehorn _my ideas_ into the existing IP. City of Heroes, IMO, from my PoV, the characters I play are immediately part of the world simply by being heroes and are called for help, unlike CO and DCUO where I am once again proving I am a hero to other heroes I will never outgrow. The exiting IP games _must_ keep thier IP intact and that ruins my playtime, as I do not want to play the stories of others, I want to play my own. Also, the referral of specific aspects of CoH as 'souless' and specifically calling out players for 'not playing the game right' and then asking for no flaming? Really? Getting really tired of people that like story based games telling the rest of us we are having fun wrong because we don't like the same stories the same way. -
From my PoV, telling players to stiffle other players by 'reporting them' is sowing FUD. Nothing other than a general sense of FUD about Big Corporations doing Evil Things and possibly taking away The Precious drives the idea, IMO. The whole point is that players have nothing to fear other than 'losing' these servers, we agree there. Trying to get others to 'keep a low profile' by reporting other players...FUD. Blatant attacks on the creativity and personal character of people that enjoy making/playing thier 'favorites'...just mean, really. These things are happening here on this forum as well as other places on the Internet. 'This thread' is, again, not some sacrosant court of law where only things mentioned here already can be addressed or referenced. I prefer to drag ideas that I think are based in the human psyche of FUD out into the open and expose them. As discussed, you just don't like the way I do it, and that's OK by me.

So, me reapeating, constanlty I'll grant you, my opinion that the chances are small and worrying is silly, is bullying, where others are trying to get players to turn on each other, and I am the bully? I am not saying to not discuss this. I have stated that even the discussion frightens some people, but some are firghtened easily. Show me where I said not to discuss, because if I did, it's my bad. What I have said over and over is that _worrying_ about it, telling others to be _fearful_ enough of it to cause players angst, etc., is silly. Discussion is healthy. Constantly trying to convince other players to fill themsleves with fear and anxiety over the possibility of something that is so unlikely and completely out of player control sounds a lot more like bully behaviour, IMO, not to mention telling the playerbase to turn on each other over this misinformation and attack thier creativity. You call me a bully. From my PoV, I am standing up to the bullies that are spreading fear and anxiety for no good reason. We disagree. How tragic.

I changed characters, zoned, etc. Validated files. Nothing else seems to be a problem. As the title says, I click on 'Super' to open the Supergroup window, crash to desktop. Trying to valid my buddy can open it, same SG, just us two. Ideas welcome.

Again with the Big Corporation fears. As has been laid out, C&D is the first step, that's how they work, I happen to work for a Big Corporation, that's what we just did not long ago. If and only if an entity _chooses_ to fight that will there be costs. This idea that Disney will uses it's evil lawyers to shut down these servers over Hulks is just silly. As has been shown in this thread there are other places already where they could and do not. Down with the FUD, play the game.

IMO, from my PoV, this game, unlike any other MMO for sure, allows you to really 'make something unique'. The vast majority of current gaming tends toward playing the creation of someone else...just playing more complex chess pieces, really. This game allows people to_create_ a character. This game allows that character to 'break the game' as part of the game - the balance aspect of most current games prevents that. At the time, CoH was called a 'happy accident'. Even then, game companies thought it foolish financially to give players such a level of power in-game. Turns out, there are plenty of people that like the ability to create a true super powered hero and kick ass at scale. With the retail barriers blown aside and the game allowed to be more of a pallet, this becomes even more appetizing. What other MMO, or game really, is out there that allows the sheer magnitude of unique characters this game does?

Hey now, don't you go bringing logic into an emotional argument! What are you, sane or something?!? -
Saying the above is just spreading FUD. Why are people so scared of things they don't understand? FUD. So, kick out the FUD. No violation is being made in a legal sense, all the players here are cosplayers if anything, becaue there are no copyright claims at the game is not being run for profit or using those IP characters to promote the game, etc. Additionally, even IF Disney/Marvel decided to do anything, it would be the same as Champions or as it was in CoX - block the names and start reporting. So long as HC does not pitch a battle or start a fight, the only entity to keep an eye on is NCSoft. Based on current precedent and data, thay are letting us alone for now. So, just go play the damn game and stop trying to get people upset, OK? :)

Oh no, it's not my lawn, that is the point, it is not yours either. And I prefer that you stay and play. If you hate it this much, you are just torturing yourself for the rest of us. :) -
The Future - An Open Letter from the Homecoming Team
jubakumbi replied to Jimmy's topic in Announcements
"You now have the power to run your own server!" ignores the massive necessity of the "massively multiplayer" bit of "MMORPG" which at the moment homecoming is monopolizing. So yes, we're allowed to criticize them for running their servers poorly. BS. It ignores nothing. What it does is hightlight the FACT that you and many of the other whiners here do not have what it takes to create a server environment that competes with this one. Period. If you really think you can do better, do it. The i24 crowd found out fast that they are a monrotiy, for example, but they have servers that they are trying to grow, while dissing these, of course. Nothing but your own brain chemistry stops you from creating a better server farm to attract players. You peole are just mad because the GM won't let you play the way you want to and that is fine. Find another game, just like in RL. And of course, you are welcome to complain here until you get banned or leave. We are also welcome to tell you your ideas are silly. -
issue 26 Patch Notes for May 30th, 2019
jubakumbi replied to Leandro's topic in Patch Notes Discussion
Still haven't seen a coherent argument from one of the complainers about why this change hurt DFB so bad when DFB now can still level you faster than it did before the devs changed one line of code. Bingo! And, this is not a reatail game, the people running the server are not here to be your slaves and do your bidding. If you don't like the way these servers are run, you have the option to exit through the door. Personally, I LOVE IT when little things change like this, because it upsets the rules lawyers. Why? Rules lawyers are the Evil of gaming. :) So please, keep on kvetching, it is so fun to watch. -
Homecoming Server Update (May 29th): User Agreement & Policy Updates
jubakumbi replied to Jimmy's topic in Announcements
Totally agree. I simply think that playing with angst is not good playtime. :) The probablity of end users getting hit is so tiny as to be virtually immesurable, IMO, as a 30 year software developer for the finanical sector. Sure, it is non-zero, just like the chance of an earth killing asteroid hittin in my lifetime. None of this is without precedent, this is not the first MMO to have this happen, not even the first NCSoft one, I think. I also realize that every ten minutes, a few more people discover these servers and the merry go round restarts again. :) I have seen people post on reddit that one of the servers was issued a C&D and that never happened, so the FUD is still very thick. What, IMO, many of the posters here and elsewhere don't seem to 'get' is that even mentioning these things terrifies some people. The thing is, some people are just scared of life and no matter what we talk about, someone will get offended/put out/bummed. Nothing in life is certain, definatly not the fate of characters in a virtual world. -
Homecoming Server Update (May 29th): User Agreement & Policy Updates
jubakumbi replied to Jimmy's topic in Announcements
Well, I use 'medication' for that kind of anxiety. There is no crystal ball. No one on these forums or the remainder of the planet can give 'anxious' players answers no on has. If people _choose_ to consume large doses of FUD and be anxious, it _is_ thier choice. I get that some people have anxiety, my wife of 25 years has it bad. There is no cure going to be found on a game board for that. -
Homecoming Server Update (May 29th): User Agreement & Policy Updates
jubakumbi replied to Jimmy's topic in Announcements
I understand FUD very well, actually. I am loudly, repeatedly, dragging this FUD out into the light so it can be exterminated. There is no reason to worry as an end user about legal action based on current legel precendents. Understanding they are anxious is the whole reason I post what I post. There is no reason to be anxious. Anyone spreading reasons is spreading FUD - they have no case law, nothing, to show where there has ever been a 'crackdown' on end users of a game in this state. No legal precendent = no reason for end users to worry. The game _cannot disappear_, the code is in the wild. -
issue 26 Patch Notes for May 30th, 2019
jubakumbi replied to Leandro's topic in Patch Notes Discussion
Why do they have to justify a damn thing to you or anyone else? Play on the server or don't, it really is just that simple. This last line also shows me a great deal. This game is no longer run by the original development team and there is no reason, at all, to follow anything they did at this point. In point of fact, the original team made some _terrible_ choices from any objective PoV. This code is now it's own entity to be toyed with as this team chooses. Will they do things you don't like? Obviously. You have the power to not encounter anything this team, or any of the the others putting up servers, changes to the game. Not a single team needs to justify anything they do with any of these servers to anyone. The entire idea that these people are ours to command and dictate to is simply erroneous. You can still get your SOs just fine from DFB, you simply have to run a couple more to hit 22, that's what I'll do anyway. But this entire idea that any of these people have to justify anything to any of us is BS, IMO. -
Homecoming Server Update (May 29th): User Agreement & Policy Updates
jubakumbi replied to Jimmy's topic in Announcements
And this is the part that is relevent. The only one for the end user, really. The end users worried about getting in 'hot water' by 'the man' over playing this game are simply wasting thier own energy. Stress kills. -

So, whoopie for you? How about stopping the trolling as well as the playing then? :) Continuing this charade of 'holier than thou' morals while we are all playing in a grey area is just hilarious. -

jubakumbi replied to Leandro's topic in Patch Notes Discussion
This _is_ still an MMO, right? Every Single Change will be blown out of proportion, until there is either no game or no players. :) IMO, the drama means even less, because the drama llamas can run thier own servers, so why bring the drama, go make your own special tower and play in it. -

I recall you being a fun, engaging poster years ago, assuming it's the same person. I hope that will continue, but your posts on this subject make me consider that might not happen. No one is forcing you to do a damn thing. If such a minor change like this at this 'stage of the game' really upsets you, then the changes that will surely get implemented, now that the retail entitiy does not have to be fed, the modding based on the vocal players might just blow your mind in over the next year. Seriously. Anyone throwing shade, getting upset, whatever term you like, over such an actual minor change, is going to be in for one hell of a ride, IMO. Change averse players need to just run thier own servers, IMO. -
issue 26 Patch Notes for May 30th, 2019
jubakumbi replied to Leandro's topic in Patch Notes Discussion
Yeah, played from Day 4 of Live. Never, and I mean never, have I played this game for the story/content per-se. Even a little. I play to make a Super and have that Super kick butt, then I get another idea and work on that one, etc. Leveling up the next idea _is_ CoH for me. Now, I don't want insta 50s at all, I can do that on a VM, but I do want to try lots of powersets and character ideas. Noen of which revolve around a story someone else is telling me - I make my own. So yeah, to even imply a little bit that 'most' veterans are here for the 'content' is simply false. I am sure they exist, but personally in-game, I have never had someone say anything along the lines of "let's run this content, I love the story". I could not care less about some minor XP changes in the minutae of the game, it won't impact me in the least from continuing to have fun. I don't understand people that look at patchnotes looking to nit-pick, never have lilke rules-lawyers, kvetching about rules changes like this is silly IMO. -
WIth that question, you can, IMO, launch a career in psychology. It is facinating to me, the brain chemistry of people that cannot let these things go.
