I think we might all agree playing in the City is worth it, but IME that's about all! :) Some call it fun, some call it work. Some go fast, some go slow. Some group, some solo. But in the end, the thing that we really agree on seems to be the City is the place to be...and that it can never be taken away again.

So, your role in that case is comic relief? ;)

tldr; The Software Business. Money in the corporate world is no less political and safer than Politics. :) Got long winded, I happen to think debate skills are really important for success. :) A meeting to determine what goes into a new product, for example, is a professional debate. One must sway the decision makers into choosing the things your team wants/thinks is right/knows will sell, vs other competing interests, like developers who would rather not be bothered to figure it out... But take the same thing into any business situation with competing interests, especially sales. For years, I have been the person to call 'BS' when people have no data, no real evidence, or, in some cases, no real product just vaporware and promises. I am deployed these days to specifically 'interface' with prospect IT staff and debate the validity of our solution with thier internal staff and against other vendors at the same time. Why do I get sent? Results. My bosses have had to tell new employees for years not to even try and argue with me, they don't. What always wins for me? "Show me". If there is not a precendent, if there is no 'valid use case', etc., then it becomes very difficult for a point of view or idea to gain validation. I am always open to new data during these things as well. New data changes things. Holding on to a PoV when presented with new data that chnages things, IMO, is a losing stratetgy that appeals only to the human base fear of change, even if that change is just making a better choice. In my world, anecdotal information is not data, along with vague fears and tradition. :) Now, I choose to take those same skills and apply them to my life so my wife and I can can live well and to stand up and yell when I see, on game forums, what I think is FUD, because it's in my blood to fight it, I dunno why, I've looked. I choose these avenues because I will not subject my wife to today's Politics as a spouse, nor do I want to get dead. FUD is FUD and it lies in all of our hearts and minds, because we have to have it stay alive in the jungle. Does not mean it cannot be challenged and drug out into the light and exposed, thus rendering it ineffective. PS: Was given the title Misinformation Eradicator on my badge for client meetings...

One poster here specifically tried to get players to report the 'IP violations'. Are you saying that poster was just asking them to ask about each one, rather than report? Still a burden those GMs did not ask for in the first place, still wastes resources, IMO. As for my passion and people being offended by my words and tone - you approach this like I am some teenager with little experience. Been debating, often professionally, for about 35 years now. My style works for me and gets real results. I learned a long time ago that going through life without making anyone mad gets very little accomplished in the real world. :) The bad actoars is a reference to RL without using the words that starts with P and ends with everyone yelling. AKA - Evil prevails when good men do nothing. I don't limit myself to 'threads' like this, using ech one as some sort of sacrosant court case or something either. There is an effort all around this game, always has been, by people who try to tell others how to have fun and I fight them where I see them. We all live in our own delusions. This is a Zen philosphy, for example, that is taken as 'inflammatory' from me all the time, because people choose to see it that way. :)

That is my point, all we have is fear of the unknown. If/When 'someone in the community crosses the worng line', fear about having created characters as close to existing IPs as possible in-game, IMO, will no bearing on that, because it will be a legal line somewhere in the $ stream. So why generate FUD about something when there is no reason to do so, why tell people to become Armchair Sheriffs? Sure, similarities exist, but this entire thread barely touches on the _real_ 9000 gorilla in the room, as you have stated, that poses an _actual_ threat with precedents. :) Saying that people are acting like/not acting like Armchair GMs is not a personal attack, at all, from my PoV. It's simply defining outlooks and points of view, IMO. Are the words 'harsh and blunt' and 'inflammatory' - Yes. Some people don't like blunt and want everyone to 'play nice'. I don't subscribe to that newletter, it allows too many bad actors to get away with stuff. I choose to inject the passion I have for these things into my prose.

Show me a legal precendent where making a character in a game running on a community server like this has been litigated. I am well aware that copyright and trademark are different animals. Just being scared of a possible lawsuit is just FUD. The outlook is purely based in a fear of the unknown IMO. In many countries, you can sue anyone for anything and it is validated in the courts. So, where is there a precedent for this situation? I would love to find one, really, as it would give me more valid data. Everything else is anecdotal, IMO. I totaly agree the discussion is valid and that many people want definitive answers no one can actualy give them - thus the issure, fear of the unknown and the conflating of vague ideas into a theory that we must all 'hide under the radar'. I also think that attacking the words people post is not the same as attacking the person, even though plenty of people think it's the same thing and need to learn the difference, IMO. Sharing an idea on the Internet involves encountering people that disagree, sometimes passionately. Ripping into a bad idea is not the same thing as ripping into a person. :)

Nope. The only problem is that AE takes up more resources for the same number of mapserver instances, because most player-made content turns on morre AI and the cores get over-used as compared to 'normal' missions. That's it. Anything else is moral judgement against what some people see as Evil Powerleveling. The only problem is physical/virtual resources. Umm yes I know that as I was responding to his quote where I said exactly that. I was explaining why the dev's lowered the xp to discourage it because they don't want it farmed for those reasons...... Fair enough.

This is complete and total dribble. 1 - This is not a retail launch, the Volonteers are not here to deal with your FUD, it is not on the list of things these people have asked us to report. PERIOD. 2 - We made Newsweek. This is server cluster is not hiding form ANYONE. 3 - FUD. Fear Uncertainty and Doubt. Full FUD. You are looking for the sky to fall without any actual valid evidence, laws, nothing. Ths only corporate entities that care about this already know about ti. They will or will not do what thier lawyers tell them to do and it will not revolve around player made character content, it is not a copyright violation, becaus no one is claiming copyright. Play how you like, until the Homcoming Staff say therwise and keep you Armchair GM-CEO-Rules-Lawyering to yourself. Poster here with out a GM tag DO NOT speak for the staff or the server cluster!

Does anybody else miss Galaxy City?
jubakumbi replied to joyispunkrolex's topic in General Discussion
I too started my heros in Galaxy until it was ripped from us. My mantra is to always use the 'other' entrance, because of crowds. In my mind, Atlas was for those that like to see and be seen. I just like to punch/kick/burn/shoot/freeze and otherwise maim badguys. On the Live Freedom server, Atlas was terrible. -
Huh? People have been multi-boxing for quite a while. The rule here is no more than 3 and not on servers with 1500+ players. While the number of players, including multi-boxing, can impact responce times, I am not following how Mutlt-Boxing = All My Lag, which, IMO, is what you are implying...

No one here, that I can see, disagrees the implemention in terms of resources is an issue, it has been repeated... We are talking about those poeple who chose to make a moral judgement about Powerleveling and AE. Yes, it takes more resources because of old code. No, it is not Evil. That's all.

You can walk away form the 'entitled' modern gaming community and jump righ ton the i24 server that exists and 'earn' everything the way you like. All while looking down on those that prefer i25. Enjoy!
-
...if that's what brings you joy! Personally, I prefer to let people find there own way and figure it out themselves. IME, the peopIe I have 'helped' over the years in MMOs just keep coming back for more spoon-feeding and free inf, or yell at me for being nosy. :) I think that allowing players to find thier own way makes for better players. Then again, I live my life this way, I don't look to others for data, I gather it on my own. All these players, new and old, have free will, unless they are AIs, then it's an unknown. If they choose to be lemmings, that is thier choice, IMO. It _is_ hilarious to see the the same tired argument topics against the 'evil powerleveling of newbs' like Winter Babies though... Internet games forums have not changed one bit since CoX went dark.

Trying to shame people who like to Powerlevel and use AE is silly. Did not work when the game was live, is really old now. Sure, AE uses more resources than expected and therefore we know it has a material impact on the servers. This has been discussed over and over again here. That does not make AE, or Powerleveling, 'bad', or a reason to go shaming others. This idea purpetuated for YEARS, this idea in CoH that AE and Powerleveling are 'cheating' or something. If you don't like to use AE or Powerlevel, don't, but the idea that these are somehow 'morally bad' is laughable from my PoV.

Well, there is an i24 server online where your dreams for having to earn Capes and Auras can come true. Enjoy!
-
These are not as mutually exclusive and 'black and white' as this statement implies, IMO. Players have been using all of the available tools to level, not all players see all things.

While I know this is tough for some (my wife of over two decades has horrible anxiety), why worry? We made Newsweek. The buzz says the corporation has known for a while. A C&D will arrive, or it won't. New servers are already popping up, the beast cannot be killed. Play the game, as in life, like there might not be a tomorrow and have fun doing it.

Best of the New-to-You, builds and powersets
jubakumbi replied to Without_Pause's topic in General Discussion
Never much enjoyed blasters. Now playing Dual Pistols/Martial Training(?) and wow - it is the most fun ever. Literally so much so, I don't want to make other characters right now (!) and have funneled all wealth into that one character from all others. Very absorbing. It's like NIght Widow meets Equilibrium. -
Uh, not from my experience. The contention here is people who are 'just healers', that only use thier 'heal' powers and ignore eveything else - they are simply not good players. Empaths are great. "Healers" in CoX - not so much. We are talking about a very specific case, which has always been very prevelant in this MMO. "Healers" are the ones who do not understand, IME. I get plenty more from good players who use all poers available.

Very true, but how many people rushing to 50 then level-down and play other content? Lets be clear - I don't care either way. :) This is all just modern human/gamer behaviour. I applaud trying to get people informed as to all the fun things in the game., but people will be people. :)
