  1. Ok, to be clear... I'm a solo'er exclusively, so no one breaks my sleeps. I'd forgotten, (been away about 3 years), that there are AoE/PBAoE sleeps/holds in just about every set, mea culpa, I apologize. Some though are on extremely long timers to be nigh useless in every fight... heck maybe even every two fights, lol. My Mass Hypnosis refreshes in about 13'ish seconds, and can be used a second time in the same fight on larger packs, and most definitely as my opener in EVERY fight. So, yes, I'd forgotten about the various sleeps/holds of other sets, and again apologize for this thread. Also, to reiterate, my main objective IS fun, hence multiple different Doms/Trollers. Thinking about rerolling my Dominator Graviton homage from Grav/Energy to Grav/Earth to emulate using Gravity powers to hurl various chunks of Earth at my target... but that's a topic for a different thread. Again, my apologies for jumping the gun before "re-familiarizing" myself with the various power sets.
  2. No, it's not a troll thread... I've been gone for about 3 years or so... and I've forgotten a lot, obviously, lol. I play Dominators mostly, not Controllers because I like the damaging secondary.
  3. I forgot nothing. I said that from a concept standpoint that I have several characters that I like, and specifically stated that I was asking from a PRACTICAL statement. "... Thematically of course I get it, I have several other Controller/Dom characters... one of my favorites from a concept/homage standpoint is my Grav/Time recreation of Graviton, (a Marvel comics Avenger's villain). But from a practical standpoint, I don't understand. Sleep is orders of magnitude better than a root... "
  4. Thank you. I'm referring to Mass Hypnosis for an AoE Sleep... wonder how I missed this power though? Actually, going through the powersets again, there are more ranged AoE sleeps/holds than I thought. Disregard last transmission, lol.
  5. I'm putting this in General because the question applies to both Controllers and Dominators. I've played every control set, I've bumped characters to Level 50 on Test, and kitted out every one of them in the best IO sets, (I like to plan ahead as to whether or not a particular class/set is worth my time in the long run on the regular servers). Mind is the only one that SLEEPS thereby taking one or more enemies completely out of the fight. Every other control set can only root... so I'm still getting hit by ranged attacks... which can be deadly. While none of those maxed characters has died yet, (except in Pergrine Isle when taking on 2x OJ Bosses... my Mind Controller and Dom have NEVER died to this match up by the way), they end the fight CONSIDERABLY more beat up than my Mind guys, who essentially finish fights at full HP because nothing ever wakes up to launch any kind of attack; ranged or melee. Thematically of course I get it, I have several other Controller/Dom characters... one of my favorites from a concept/homage standpoint is my Grav/Time recreation of Graviton, (a Marvel comics Avenger's villain). But from a practical standpoint, I don't understand. Sleep is orders of magnitude better than a root. Am I missing something? I appreciate your insight.
  6. Thank you both very much. I went back to that page, and just went down it, grabbed full sets of 5x 10%, 5x 6.25%, etc... and while not probably the best choices, I'm at 147.5% and Perma-Dom... so at least now I can perform a side by side comparison, fighting the same mobs in the same area, between the Perma-Dom Mind/Psi and the non-Perma one. @placta you've given me a more specific road map, and that's greatly appreciated.
  7. Oh... under very rare... and on the page I linked the "purples" are colored... uh... purple... is it Friday yet?
  8. Was wrong, (shocker I know), Preventive Medicine is 8.75%... however I have kitted out 9x 6.25% sets, lol. Thanks... I'm getting there... slowly but surely, lol.
  9. But then you have to play the slotting game again to make Hasten perma. On the Beta server, using the cheat menu, how do I get "purples?" I'm not even sure what exactly "purples" are specifically, lol.
  10. Actually, I picked those with the highest recharge rate, not specifically 6.25%... but some, like Preventive Medicine, says something different on the page; 8.25%, but is actually 6.25% in the game. So, I'm sure that's what happened. I'll check in a bit.
  11. I'm quite sure that I am, and didn’t know about that, thank you. I just used this page, and picked powers that could use the 6.5% sets: https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Enhancement_Sets. Back to the drawing board, lol.
  12. Looks like I'm about 5 seconds away from Perma :(
  13. Thank you. So far, without Hasten, I'm at 115%. However, I don't seem to be getting any global recharge from Synapses' Shock in Stamina, even though it shows the 5 pc 6.25% in green, or the same with Preventive Medicinenin Aid Self... there was a 3rd one too that doesn't seem to be adding to the total that I don't recall the name of. I should be about 123%, (I've read that you need 122% for Perma-Dom). I have no idea why the three sets, despite seemingly giving me global recharge are not factoring into the total. And still don't why Domination recharge time still says 3m 20secs. This is very frustrating actually. I thought I'd figured out how to get there, but obviously not :(
  14. Disregard last transmission... think I've got a handle on things... but how come the recharge time on Domination, despite me currently being at 98% still says 3m 20 sec on the detailed info tab?
  15. Hello, folks, Hoping that I can get some help here. I've tried searching all over the web, and no where is there a simply outlined Perma-Dom guide, especially for a Mind/Psi... also without Hasten. Tons of posts on the math, don't care about it. Mid's builds imported from forum posts seem few and far between, and either involve Hasten or an SG Base recharge buff. Then no matter what I do I can't get the Mids/Beta import to work. I export the file to my COH/Homecoming/Data/Texts/English/Menu firect, I see the file there... but neither the line command/macro; /popmenu MRBTest.mnu, nor using the hack menu feature do anything. Posts with the Mids list of powers/enhancements show all acronyms. I know I'm asking a lot, but can someone just post: Put 3 of these here. Put 5 of those there. Put 4 of this in that please? Or at least, in plain spelled out English, just post the sets to use; Basilisk's Gaze, Luck of the Gambler, etc. At least I can find, and use, them on the test server that way. I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.
  16. My favorite character from a concept/RP viewpoint is one I created years before CoH, for a PnP game. He is derived from X-Men lore. ************************ Archetypes: Tanker & Scrapper, EA/EM & EM/EA Hero Name: Smasher Civilian Name: Jacob Summers Origin/Powers: Cousin to Scott & Alex Summers, also a mutant. Jacob's power is similar to Cyclops' in that it's the same ruby red, concussive force, solar powered energy that Cyclops shoots from his eyes. However, this energy manifests through the pores of his skin, and unlike Cyclops, Smasher can control it. For the most part it is only localized around his body. He can project this energy as eye beams at range, but those eye beams are significantly less powerful than Cyclops' eye beams, as well as significantly less powerful than the localized manifestation of his powers. Instead Smasher generates the energy to coalesce around his hands, which then explodes with concussive force when he hits something, or he generates it around his feet, and when he slams his foot down, the explosion propels him into the air in a controlled jump of varying height and distance depending on how much power he releases. He also generates the energy around his body producing various defensive shields. **************************** From a which character do I enjoy playing the most viewpoint? I have a top 10, of which both incarcerations, (Tanker and Scrapper), of Smasher are two, whom I tend to play equally.
  17. Oh, and I have so many alts it's not even funny... fun, yes... funNY, no, lol. S'why I rely on the test server so much... to cull the herd a bit, or just play there with already fleshed out characters; especially ones that may not come into their own until 20's/30's or so... I just insta-level them to X level, give them basic crafted IOs to start, then start hammering bad guys.
  18. I have solo build characters, and more group oriented characters, (probably like many others do as well), and my Grav is more for teaming, for exactly what you said... all the mayhem and chaos of groups breaks sleeps, lol. Though I of course totally agree on the pew pew vs evisceration aspect. :) Actually, conceptually, and with regard to maybe not wanting a lot of secondary power picks... Repel at Lv 8 for /Kin is very thematic. I've wrestled with /kin vs /FF for that very reason, but as you say, I think there are more thematic "Telekinetic" powers in /FF than in /Kin.
  19. That was a large part of my, "Huh?" with Doms. Mostly using Mass Hypnosis, Confuse, Dominate, Levitate, and Mesmerize... juggling amongst the bad guys... those things kill them, while keeping them controlled the whole time, (more or less... I'm looking at you, "MISS," lol)... nary a need for the secondary other than a, "got it, may as well use it," thought process. Looks like it'll be Mind/FF Controller... awww... who'm'I kidding... with my raging Alt-O-Holism, both with see play time. The Controller will just get more time and more investment. As for Gravity... love the theme, love, LOVE Propel, but absolutely hate immobilizes that still allow mobs to attack from range, or force me to maneuver/back pedal if they got to melee range before I can immobilize them. That's why I love Mind so much... for soloing a sleep is as effective as a hold... I won't break my own sleeps. That's a different story though. :) Thanks.
  20. Thank you... been chomping at the bit to get in and narrow the field a bit regarding characters and builds to pursue... guess today's the day, lol.
  21. Thank you very much. Probably invest my time/effort/money in the Controller than since it's more or less even... since I much prefer the Telekinetic control/defense aspect of /FF than I do the added attacks of the Dom secondary powers. For what I'm looking for, that fits better. Oh, and I know it'll be a slog, more or less either way, but this particular character isn't necessarily about fast kills/leveling... I was just hoping that the answer wasn't going to be "X is orders of magnitude better than Y," lol. This is just a fun, thematic character. Actually, all of mine are, but some are faster/sturdier, and some aren't... all have been fun so far. My questions tend to be more about wanting to avoid catastrophic mistakes. :)
  22. Thank you. The only options I'm considering for an admittedly thematically governed, not min/max character are: Mind/FF Controller Mind/Psi Dom The /FF is more for the extra control/defense; Force Bolt, Detention Field, Repulsion Bubble, etc than any attacking. The attacking will all be from the primary Mind Control set.
  23. Hello, folks, So, despite any weaknesses to the set, I really enjoy Mind Control. Since I much prefer using the Mind Control powers for attacking vs a Dom's secondary attack powers, for solo play, who would have an easier ride using only the Mind Control powers for attacking; Dom or Controller? With a Controller I would take Force Field as my "Telekinetic" side which lends a lot to a Telepathic/Telekinetic hero concept. With a Dom, which I already have, with Psi Assault, though I rarely use those powers since things tend to die whilst juggling control powers amongst the group of bad guys without using my secondary, IMHO I more thematically have a pure Telepathic hero. Themes aside, I know that Controllers get double damage on enemies with status effects, Doms can, eventually, get Perma-Dom. Forgetting Perma-Dom for the ride to 50, since odds are you can't get there much before, if at all, before 50... not to mention that I'm not flush with cash, lol. So who kills/levels faster in this case of only using the primary set to attack; Doms or Controllers? Thanks folks.
  24. I think you're right since it now says, can't check for updates on the launcher, and now the servers show green... but clicking on them says wrong version or some such. On a Sunday? Devs... go relax... ain't nothin' about this game worth you working on the weekend, lol.
  25. Not sure that enough people play on them to know, or care, lol... but are the Beta servers down for anyone else... or am I having some weird problem? I'm guessing that they're down since I can connect to the regular gaming servers, but I can't find any info, and the server status page apparently doesn't monitor the Beta servers. Problem is the launcher says, "Ready," so I'm not sure. Bummer... wanted to try out some archetypes/builds for a bit today
