Low level to high level relevance

Recommended Posts

While taking a break from my typical Stalkers and Villain Epics I decided to put together a little project build, I had heard alot of hubbub about the Controller not being relevant to the game. So I give you a build that I devised to have a damned good time doing it at all levels. You have Perma Hasten, Farsight and Carrion Creepers. You have close to Perma Chrono Shift and almost 2/3s up time on Water Spout for shenanigans. Melee and AoE defense are almost soft capped and Ranged is above soft cap with capped S/L Resists, this is not including Time's Juncture.

Play aggressive and mow into combat like a freight train, you will tear up the field with Slowed Response on perma to tear mobs defenses with stacked Distortion Fields to keep confused enemies in place and doing nothing.

(Tested and Approved for all your Controller needs)

The whole "Controllers at 50 are irrelevant" thing is largely a product of Incarnate powers rendering control a bit moot. things die too quickly from barrages of Judgments and Nukes for Mezes and controls to have much effect.

This makes people lean more towards Corrupters, who can nuke and blast while offering similar support to controllers.

Your build looks pretty solid! My only comment is that you could probably get more out of Farsight if you picked Primal Mastery rather than Leviathan Mastery. Power Boost will pump the numbers given out by Farsight way up, allowing you to focus on other things in your build while softcapping. Water Spout is a great power too, and it's personal choice, but I figured it was worth mentioning at least.

Okay so I got curious to see what a Plant/Time controller could to at 50 with proc setups and Primal Mastery, so this is what I game up with. You need to click Power Boost before hitting Farsight, but the result should be a 21-22% global defense + 25% from Farsight after Power Boost, resulting in 46% Defense to all, which is the softcap.

The build could probably stand to have a little more recharge in order to make everything perma, but I'm okay with where it sits, overall.

Aye, I ran a heavy proc build and did want to do more with Farsight but I've been doing more solo content pushing, so shoring up all avenues was the name of the game. I team for Incarnate but by that point so many buffs are thrown around Farsight is just icing on the cake.

All told it's been a fun little journey on this combination and one that I did not expect to like as much. Concept was a pissed off nature goddess so I felt I captured it pretty well while still leveraging performance.

I have actually since switched over to Primal myself, found myself needing another attack since I am soloing more and might as well grab Power Boost while I was at it. Previous build I had been using was part of a dedicated group that has since stopped running.

I think the player base we have now has a large amount of people used to the trinity playstyle, and so they are bringing tankers and maybe brutes and blasters nukes have no crash so they're really up there on the front more. When you have so much damage frontloaded, any support role looks less useful. This even carries over to defenders, people sometimes don't appreciate some of the great power sets because they do have that "just need a healer in case" mentality. It's just meta. I did a super smooth Dr. Kane recently and it was 2 controllers, a stalker and a sentinel.  But that's really how this game goes, it can be functional with just about any team (though if you've got 8 blasters you will need some rez inspirations or everyone needs a revive temp power, but those are easy to get).

I would like to see some buffs on controllers, but not because the AT is bad, just to give it some "frosting" to make it look tastier. I would love to see the epic pool damage nerf reverted - at one point controller epics got the damage straight up halved because the devs said "oops, wait we forgot to halve them when we introduced containment" even though it had been like 12 issues and the player base had mentioned it. Directly raising controller end game damage would make them much tastier without really changing anything of the mechanics; it would also help soloing controllers.

See me on Excelsior as Eridanus - Whisperkill - Kid Physics - Ranger Wilde - The Hometown Scrapper - Firewatch - and more!

This is how I play my Grav/Storm and how I always recommend anyone play any Controller. I think this is partly where the "controllers are not relevant" mindset comes from, playing controllers as backline support when they should be frontline offense.

Right tree Clarion does the same as Powerboost for Farsight.
