Wierd Combo? Dark/TA build

Hello! I have many 50s so far mostly all ATs in game but a Corruptor. When i pick a new toon to play i always look into not common power combinations what always leads me to some wierd synergies between primaries/secondaries. With this in mind i decided to approach to build a Corruptor focused mostly in debuffs. I didnt see anyone in game with this two sets combined what kind of surprise me because i believe dark and trick arrow can complement very well creating a -to hit -res -slow lethal combo.

So the idea with this character is attack in range (def softcapped) enhancing debuffs with powerboost and team play oriented. I tried to place ATOs where can trigger procs more often but ended to slot SSB ATO in Nightstar because cant find other power to slot it losing ranged softcap. Rech bonus is at +70% + Hasten very decent. I didnt use purple sets because i aimed to get my defense over +40% and im not cray about te get recharge at any cost.

Well if you have any advices/inputs... all ideas are welcome. Just keep in mind softcap defense is not negotiable at least for me. From that starting point any improvements on this build and combo are appreciated. Thanks!

You seem to have sacrificed damage output for defense and recharge sets.

Dark Pit is garbage. It only stuns Minions.  I'd be taking the Cones and slotting them with the new Artillery set. 6 slotting Artillery gives you lots of Ranged defense and some Range, perfect for cones. Torrent is crap damage but it is soft control and will take a Forced Feedback for more recharge.

You also want Oil Slick slotted for damage. Achilles -Res works better in Acid Arrow. Burning Oil Slick does a lot of damage. Getting some reliable way of lighting it (well as reliable as lighting Oil Slick can be) would be useful. So if I was building one of these I'd go with a build like this. Not quite at the softcap, maddeningly but you could tweak things. This build is 1 Purple off capping Smashing & Lethal too, nearly at the Incarnate Cap for NRG and nearly capped for Neg too. With all your -ToHit you'll be pretty safe!

I included Arcane Bolt as your Oil Slick lighter. But it's damage is decent too. Animation is annoying but it hits hard. Another option for lighting Oil slick is the Origin power for Tech or Magic.

No travel power because I just go down the P2W route nowadays (Ninja Run, Sprint, Rocket Pack).

Life Drain really needs a buff. Looking at the numbers in Mids makes me sad. I only have it slotted like that for the Thunderstrike Ranged bonuses.

I don't use Purples or Winters Sets (and only one PvP IO) cos they're too expensive for a non-farmer afflicted with altisis.

Spoiler

Also I've no idea why people are discussing Dark Armour and Dark Control as the weekly topic when poor old Dark Blast seriously needs a pass.

Setting the 3 cones to the same angle (40 degrees) and making Life Drain do decent damage (compared to Waters Dehydrate it's a joke and Dehydrate is buffable via Tidal Forces stacks) would be a start. along with giving Dark Pit something to do.

This seems strange to me--- I have a dark blast/tactical arrow blaster which is kind of similar and some of the slotting here confuses me--

  • Flash arrow is heavily slotted and for the sake of 3.75% ranged defense you've added a proc which takes away one of flash arrow's best features-- without a proc, flash arrow doesn't notify enemies. So you can debuff them quietly. With a proc, it aggros them. So flash can no longer be your lead 'attack'.  Flash works great as a one slot wonder.
  • Night fall is not slotted for damage. Nor is life drain. And you don't take tenebrous tentacles. Really you have very few actual attacks slotted for damage in this build... gloom, moonbeam, blackstar. This would be painful for me to level, or exemp down for a TF like this week's WST, citadel.
  • If pursuing ranged defense, don't forget about a set not in standard Mid's yet. Slot artillery in nightfall instead for more ranged defense than cloud senses gets you. Or slot Thunderstrike in gloom and move malice of the corruptor to some other damage power.  Neither sets gives you cloud senses +reacharge, but I think flash arrow and nightfall can be better powers than you have them and with the freed slots you can get +recharge elsewhere.
  • Have you considered the call of the sandman proc in PGA?
  • Make sure you take some power like your origin power that can light the oil slick, at least I think that's still an issue
  • This build plays heavily at range, so jumping in for soul drain could be challenging.

What's the problem with life drain?

Corruptor Life drain does (by Mid's) 93.3 damage plus a 13.3% heal and does -10% ToHit.

Dehydrate does 72.7 damage (88.2 with tidal up) plus an 11% heal (16.5 with tidal) and a -10% def debuff. Dehydrate has longer range, all else is similar or identical.

What am I missing here? Life drain has (IMO) a more useful side-effect and it's pure negative damage which is less often defended or resisted compared to dehydate's smashing/cold.  How is life drain terrible? Is Mid's wrong or am I misreading it?

Hmmm. I'm seeing 46 damage vs 49 in favour of Dehydrate? Plus a marginally better heal, recharge (like 6ms) and better range. And it isn't even Waters Tier 3 (it's got Water Jet for that), it's available from level 12. Remember the -Def also means it's Achilles friendly.

Although Dark does get it's Snipe, and early, and quick snipes are amazing now.

Here's the two with no other modifiers in Mids.

That's interesting. Which Mid's are you running? I'm using Mid's reborn but haven't updated to the new beta "unofficial" update yet. Here's what I show with Tidal off.  (edit-- I don't see a recharge difference in either version). The ability to slot Achilles' IS nice.

Latest version. Both mine are unslotted. I did think they were very low alright. Looks like the Corrupter values are incorrect in my version. The Defender version is higher!!

Mine should be the latest but I'll see if I had some buggy version of it.

Edit : Seems to be the latest but the Corrupter version seems borked. That's very odd. I'll go report it.  Good news is that Life Drain seems less sad than I thought it was.

This is not a criticism of Mids, but it is not always as accurate as you would expect, particularly when it comes to damage numbers, and some other numbers too. So I would use it as a rough guide and check some of the power numbers ingame (can be done from character creation screen too). The global bonuses and enhancement numbers are usually pretty accurate though. I tend to use it as a 'rough guide'.
