I have met some really nice people, been lucky on drops, but I am Inf poor and those must have IO sets are out of reach.

So, I would like to ask a few questions and maybe get a few build suggestions.

 

Because of all of these nice people, I want to make a XP farmer to help others out.

I don't ever expect to be super awesome farmer as the ones I have met (Hi Burnt MnM and Fah-Q and Fyenna)

I do have a mid 30's Fire/Spines tank which I just outfitted with basic lvl 35 IOs and a couple of Knockback Protects.

 

I am using Mids character designer, and at lvl 50 it seems that we can get 90% fire resist fairly easily.  

Lethal and Smash stops about 67%, Energy and Negative about 45%, but I get 15% Defense to everything.

 

Is it really necessary to take Temperature Protection since that Fire and Plasma shield gets you to 89%?

I figure that Fire needs Tough, Weave, and Maneuvers.  Is there another power pool I need to grab for survivability?

 

Any build suggestions, or example builds that you can share?

Temperature Protection is good because you can fit in a 3pcs of Aegis for a 3.13% Fire Def set bonus. Fire Shield, Temp Protection and Plasma Shield all take in the 3pcs Aegis set. Though it could still be skipped regardless if you have Mocking Beratement 6pcs sets ( for the +recharge bonus 7.5%) sprinkled around since it is the same bonus in the 5pcs slot as Aegis' 3pcs (3.13F.Def / 1.565 AoE Def) and would not stack globally more than 5 times.

S/L/E/N is basically pointless if you are making your guy to play only in fire farms, it should not be a consideration. The only relevant things are Fire Def/Res.

Tough should be taken only as a prereq to Weave as S/L resists are unneeded. I have it as a 1 slot wonder to mule Gladiator Armor +3% Def All IO. I don't even turn Tough on because it's a useless end drain that doesn't help me in farms. Assault is good because MODAMAGE and Vengeance is great to mule in a LotG. Combat Jumping is also required for +Def and a LotG mule

These builds are fairly expensive as they have a bunch of Winter Sets and purple sets. you should be able to modify it a bit to change the purple sets for something else since they are mostly used for the +recharge bonus and the winter sets can be changed to something cheaper. For example, Avalanche which is found in Blazing Aura can be changed for Eradication or Frozen Blast in Electrifying Fences can be changed to Annihilation.

You might not be able to cap fire Def this way but if you are in the high 30ies / low 40ies you should be fine to do even +4 content if you are on the ball with your usage of Healing Flames and don't mind eating a purple/green insp once in a while

This is a fairly cheap build that gets to 45% Fire Defense.  You can skip the LofG IOs until you can afford them, and the Unique IOs in Health and Stamina. For a lot of the abilities I'd take you don't get them until between 35 and 45.  You also have 90% Fire Resistance without running Fire Shield. 

 

Left a lot of slots empty, you can add procs as you can afford them.

Fill up on purples, use 3, use binds to auto convert things to purples- when you run out of them exit get more purples and keep going and slowly build your build up until you no longer need purples.
