A few days ago some of you were kind enough to help me  When I was looking to getting a new dust top to play city of  Heroes with. It's been running great and the only concern I have is I known to sometimes I will disconnect to random. I was in the middle of the mission a moment ago with the team full of people and I just  Disconnected. I feel badd because I didn't remember the names of the team mates so I couldn't send them an apology tell. I'm drawn to prevent these disconnections in the future. I am not sure what the issue is I have a feeling it may be in the settings? Below is the computer I purchased  On Friday.

Sorry I used voice to text and And that really butchered my  Post. This game crashed earlier this morning  Just once. Tonight I played about 3 hours and it crashed twice very both times I suddenly experienced a black screen while in a mission one time the other I was an Atlas park  Putting together a team and I crashed your black screen and then I couldn't recover so I close the application

It might not be your computer. I think there was general weirdness going on over the weekend due to the US holiday allowing more people to play. I was dealing with frequent disconnects myself yesterday.

Posted

Is it still happening today?  I understand there were server issues over the long weekend.

If it is:

Wireless or hardwired to network?

If wireless does it continue when hardwired?

Is it happening after a certain time, either time of day or after a regular interval of play?

Cable (Altice, Cox), DSL (Frontier, Verizon), Satellite (Hughes, Dish), LTE (Cellphone carrier like ATT or Verizon Wireless), or dial-up connection?

I am wired. I am with Comcast, supposedly the highest speed package. It seems random. No matter what time of day I play.  I have a tight budget so I had to go low end. Below is the PC I purchased. Its definitely not a gaming PC and not a high end graphics card. That may be it. But my knowledge of PC's is limited. I just use them.

Wow I had a good deal price wise.  I only paid 399  during the memorial day sale. Below is the PC I picked up Friday.

Th PC is fine.  At worst you turn the graphics down to medium and reduce the draw distance a bit if you have lag issues.

Open a command prompt by going to your search and type CMD

type in Ping 8.8.8.8 at the prompt and press enter

Now press your up arrow and you will see the command show again, leave it there and play CoH.

If you disconnect quickly switch to that screen and press enter.

If you can't see that (you will see a request timed out message) then we have a network issue.

If not it's computer.  This is Google's public DNS server.  if you live in North America and can't see it your ISP/network is having issues.

If we know it's network we need to find where the failure is.  What server are you on when this happens?  I'll find the IP and we can do a trace route to locate the point of failure.  Hoepfully it isn't on Comcast's side, because if it is, I pity your poor damned soul as the devil drives a hard bargain for his favors.

If you enter 'ping -t 8.8.8.8' it will ping continuously until you hit ctrl-c

Can you do this:

Open search and type in Event

You should see the Event Viewer there, open it.

On the left hand side you will see Windows Log, click the > to expand it

Click Application Log

Sort by task category

Look for Category (100) and (101).  These are kind of a catch all for application errors. 100 is an error and 102 is a hang.

Look for ones related to Homecoming.exe and score.exe

For example, I just tried to connect to Homecoming while it is down and can see in the General box:

Faulting application name: score.exe, version 1.0.0.1, time stamp...

If so, copy and paste the dialog in the general box from a couple for me.

If this continues this weekend I can schedule a remote session with you and take a look live at what is happening and see if I can troubleshoot it.

I went into the Event Log and found multiple events with the category of 100. These had a source of Bonjour Service

A few were event 102 which is on the bottom of this. I didn't copy and paste all of the 100s, just a few.  Here's 102. This has a source of ESEN T

In addition the copy and paste examples I submitted a few instances  of 100 and 102 events. I did a search by event name. I didn't see anything in the log which specified Homecoming or Score.

I should add that at no point have I lost my internet connection when i am disconnected from COH

Bonjour is part of the suite that connects and Apple product to Windows.  It installs and runs with ITunes.  The other is a Microsoft Error and is probably not pertinent to the issue.

This is perplexing as there is no indication of a crash or app hangup by Homecoming or Score and there isn't an internet disconnect.  Score isn't generating app logs that I can see on my install to look at.

If you connect to another CoH server like Virtue or Pliedes does it happen?

Just for grins, manually update Windows and your drivers.  May be something there that we can't see.

Posted

Try someone that isn't homecoming.  See if it still happens.  If it doesn't then we know where the cause lies and can work with that.

Right now we need to eliminate everything that isn't a cause to figure out what is.

If you feel comfortable with it you can install Wireshark if it still happens.  This will run a log of all network activity you can dump to a file and email to me.  I can match events there against when the disconnect happens and see if there is some malformed packets or something.

If we can work out a time, maybe Sunday, I can run to my office and we set up a remote maintenance session.  if I check services and taskmanager I might see something there.

I installed wireshark but dont know what to do with it. I've manually checked for driver updates  none found. I am about to try to play on a different server. I'll post any uodates

I played for about an hour this morning on the EU server. I played without incident. But keep in mind, that is a small sample size.  I'd be on Everlasting for a few hours then I'd experience my disconnects.  One thing I did fail to mention was when I set up this new PC, I took the Tequila, Score file off my external hard drive which I transferred from my old PC to this new PC. Could that be the cause of my issues perhaps?

It shouldn't, but then at this point I'm tossing around ideas to see if it solves the issue.  Might not hurt to uninstall, download a fresh copy and do it again.  Just save your costume and customization directories first.

Tequila is out of the picture once you are connected, so it really shouldn't affect game play.  The Score.exe might have something to do with it.

Remember I'm a PC novice. I've added and removed programs for years. I went to add/remove programs but I couldn't find score or tequila to uninstall. I'm not sure where to go to uninstall tequila

I just went into my PC and deleted all files pertaining to Tequila and Score, right the download seems to be progressing, I'll know when I play the game after the download. I will keep you posted if the issues I mentioned earlier continue. sorry about my confusion, I just don't know much about computers, except basic things, and of course how to use computers.

Well after deleting all files related to Score and Tequila, and after installing Tequila from the forums here "getting started". I played for about 45 minutes on the Everlasting Server, in the middle of a timed mish, I disconnected. No message, just suddenly dropped to the desktop.

There is nothing to uninstall with Tequila.  You just delete it.  But first you should go into options and hit re-validate.  It will repair anything that isn't how it's supposed to be.

Well as I mentioned I did delete everything labeled as score or Tequila. After deletion I downloaded Tequila again from this site again. After downloading the game again, I played the game for almost an hour and disconnected again. Exactly the same way as before
