Nuclear_Fusion_Kid Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 (edited) Hello /cohh I come to you in a time of great need 😎 But in all seriousness hello:)  I played on live years ago, started when City of Villains came out. I used to play ss/ele and ss/inv brutes and the game was still alive when I quit. I imagine a lot has changed, even more so with the new patches we have here. So I want to ask for some advice.  I play solo and not gonna lie I would like to try 4/8 at some point after I relearn the game again. So solo all the way.  - First question since we can pick any archetype to be a villain what will better fit my needs brute or tank? - Second question the big one. I need some guidance/advice/opinion about some power combinations.  I'm thinking mainly ss/rad or rad/rad or rad/dark. At the same time I'm curious how would my old power sets (ss/ele and ss/inv) fit my play style now.  From the power sets I listed what in your opinion plays well or works well or fits the solo play style the best? What is the most fun/boring or even the most broken/useless etc. ? I know a lot of those are personal preferences but I'm interested in those as well.    Btw I'm not asking "tell me what is most op and hand me that best leveling and end game build for it". Ofc and build would be very helpful but the forums full of builds so that should not be a problem😄  Like I said just some guidance/advice/opinion from the theorycrafting crowd and veterans of both tanks and brutes.  Thank you in advance 😘          Edited December 6, 2020 by Nuclear_Fusion_Kid
Snarky Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Dark Armor is an End Hog. Dark Melee has an End Recovery power that feeds it. Dark Melee pairs well with other sets due to the added sm heal and big end recovery. It has meh damage and is a like it or hate it set. Dark Armor pretty much needs to be paired with a attack set that has an End recovery power or you will have a rough time.  SS is solid as ever. Some of my favorite pairing are SS/Inv, Dark,/Invul, and Dark Dark 1

At least for solo. From what I have seen it seems tankers will do better in the long run.

I think the Tanker may do better in AoE due to having more targets but the brute will probably win in single target. But it wont be by much either way and the Tanker comes with a lot of mitigation.  If it was me i would pick Tanker but don't let me sway you, i am biased towards Tankers 😛. Both will be good.  I would be happy to show what a Rad/SS Tanker can do on excelsior. Edited December 7, 2020 by Gobbledegook 1

Going for a rad/ss tank will be great. I think I will roll on excelsior boost the redfor numbers 😉 1

Panacea (lvl 10), Performance Shifter (lvl 21), Miracle (lvl 20), and Numina (lvl 30) can all be added in as you level up. 4 slot Impervium armor is great in the resistance shields providing both +recovery and +max end. At higher level purples provide more +recovery and you gain access to Cardiac or Ageless incarnate choices. Recovery Serum is a very cheap and accessible endurance sustain temp power. Base buff can add more +recovery.  Dark Armor is actually great with Super Strength, I played SS/Dark Brute on live, it can absolutely be built to be 100% self sufficient, but it doesn't even need to be now with more convenient access to cardiac, ageless, recovery serum, base buffs, and less expensive and more easily acquirable IOs as a whole.  Stone Melee is also excellent with Dark Armor, another endurance heavy set, can absolutely be built to be sustainable and has great pay offs for your investment. Oppressive Gloom + Fault is a mag 4 stun available every 5 seconds, every spawn, which accounts for a massive amount of mitigation for yourself and everyone around you. Dark Regeneration often becomes overkill with the control capabilities of this combo.  New energy Melee should also be great with Dark Armor, for similar stun stacking. The New ET also costs zero endurance. Floating pom-poms in Cloak of Darkness is fun too.  I still don't like that Dark Armor lacks inherent knockback protection, and that is a bigger gripe for me about the set than the propagated endurance issues the set has. With the relevant shortcomings of the set, it still has alot going for it, such as plowing through enemy groups that other sets often struggle with, and being able to treat most enemy groups equally whether they are Council or Carnies is pretty cool.
