cohRock Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 (edited) My spines/ice brute, Sticky Wicket, finally turned 50, and he could use a makeover. One of the early things he did at 50 was go to Cimerora and get a repeatable timed mission, set to +1*3. He was teamed with a dominator. He died multiple times during the mission. Even though Ice Armor has no particular weakness to smash/lethal, he was getting decimated. His Chilling Embrace damage mitigation seemed to not phase the foes at all -- like it wasn't even on. The bosses cut thru his defense armor as if it wasn't on either. Maybe those foes are an outlier, but I have noticed a general lack of protection for most of his development. He doesn't have much in the way of sets or accolades, just 2 each of Miracle and Numina's Convalescence, and the Atlas Medallion. Here is his current build. But this does not seem to be the case. I'm considering replacing Assault, Buildup, Teleport Target, and Hasten with Maneuvers, Kick, Tough, and Weave. Slot-wise I'd really like to substitute out an attack, but Lunge would be the only one I wouldn't mind losing, and I have to take that one (or Barb Swipe, which I didn't take in the first place). Maybe say goodbye to Spine Burst? With the two endurance procs and Physical Protection, he does not appear to need Energy Absorption, but I suspect that would change in adding the toggles Tough and Weave. I don't expect him to walk into a +4*8 AE farm and be able to solo it. I'd be happy with a +2*5. What would you-all advise? Edited December 7, 2020 by cohRock -- Rock
Glacier Peak Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 (edited) If I am not mistaken, that lack of defense feeling you described is from the -defense that most enemies in Cimerora have added to their attacks, which causes a cascade of defense debuffing to overcome most defense heavy sets (unless you have defense debuff resistance). Jaxman100 Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Adding in the Fighting Pool for Tough and Weave, taking Maneuvers, and try to add the +3% Def IOs and +Resistance IOs to your build. Then start looking to set bonuses that grant S/L defense. You want to be as close to 45% Defense to S/L and as high as you can be for Fire/Cold and Energy/Negative. That will help delay how quickly your defenses are reduced by certain enemies. Ice is more susceptible to debuffs than say SR, More sets should mean you can move slots from the Energy Mastery Epic. With Energy Absorption you may not need it at all. I would look for any other Ice Armor builds and see what sets people use, some will be very expensive Winter Sets but that does not need to be your first goal. In short you are in the mid 20s for S/L defense and without constant inspiration use some groups will eat that up. Below is where'd I'd start planning my build. I'd fill in attacks with sets that give defenses to Fire/Cold/Energy/Negative, resists where possible focusing on S/L, and +recharge. I would probably take a travel power instead of Hibernate. Keep in mind enemies will still debuff defenses so Incarnate powers that boost defenses are nice, and so a purple inspirations. It is not really optimized though since I didn't use any non ATO purple sets so it doesn't have perma hasten. What I tried to do here is since Spines/Ice is such an endurance heavy pairing was to maximize +end and end recovery sets. Endurance is at 111% add on top of that the 2 endurance Accolades and you will go up to 120% which should make a big difference since it basically makes all your other end recovery things 21% better S/L def is capped but I was unable to cap any resists other than Cold since the set has no other native resists Hope this helps somewhat !
