Titan Weapons - Crushing Blow applies Momentum before activation ends

Every opener (with the exception of Crushing Blow) applies Momentum right when the activation ends, allowing the next attack to be activated roughly at the same time Momentum begins.

With Crushing Blow, there's a noticeable delay between the time the Momentum buff is applied, and the next attack is activated. This makes the Momentum window shorter when using Crushing Blow as an opener.

This affects all ATs.

Crushing Blow is so much faster animating than any other starting attacks that it probably doesn't matter, or it's deliberately made this way to make up for that fact. Or rather, the other attacks get their momentum starting at the end, so you don't waste half of it in animation time.

Check out my stories in the Mission Architect. Just search for "@Take One" or "SFMA". Here are some enticing titles:

  • Praetoria-related: Earth Revolution Red, Earth Revolution Blue
  • Mercenary Action: West Libertalia: Born And Raised, West Libertalia: Global Empire, West Libertalia: Love And Rockets
  • Soldier of Arachnos Arcs: The Tangled Weave, A Taste For Evil, Faultline By Night, Fear And Loathing On Striga, The Warburg Connection,
  • Various: Project Dragon, Evolve Or Die, The Murders in the RWZ Morgue, The Last Crystal Out Of Cimerora

These are just a few, and more to come...

It may look like Crushing Blow animates faster, but activation times are not that much different from other powers:

Crushing Blow: 2s

Defensive Sweep: 2.2s

Rend Armor: 2.3s

Titan Sweep: 2.43s

Arc of Destruction: 2.7s

While every other power lands the hit at the end of the activation time, Crushing Blow is the only exception where it lands the hit (and activates Momentum) in the middle of activation time. The result is a rather long recovery animation after the hit lands, which cannot be cancelled into other attacks, wasting Momentum time.

It also breaks chain fluidity. When the activation time matches the "time to hit", it creates the visual impression of hits being "cancelled" into each other, which adds fluidity to the attacks (a prominent feature from fighting games). The way Crushing Blow behaves now is inconsistent with the rest of the powers.

yep, this has been an issue since the open beta with the changes.

it's why none of the old strings with crushing blow as it's starter work as well because it wasn't like this before.

it's likely related to whatever caused crushing blow to go from a 4s anim time without momentum to a proper 2s one, but yeah. it's mad annoying.
